A Venus/Mars conjunction is supposed to be favorable for romance. The thinking is that women are from Venus and men are from Mars, so what’s to keep this combination of cosmic energies from creating a match made in heaven?
Well, that might have been true back in the day when men got their way, women had no say, and gender binarism was here to stay, but a lot of things have changed over the past 2500 years.
Although a conjunction still signifies that two planets are in the same place at the same time in the sky above, it doesn’t mean that those planets are on the same page – much less see things eye-to-eye.
It’s true that women are from a different planet than men (astrologically speaking at least), so any assumption that guys are naturally fluent in gal pal or women can talk full bro-speak is mistaken. What can happen when these planets get together is a recognition of differences and an appreciation for the other person’s perspective.
Instead of reverting to stereotype, the Venus/Mars conjunction in Aquarius on February 22nd provides an opportunity to ditch the role-playing and to get to know an individual for who they truly are.
Mars and Venus join Mercury, Pluto, and the Sun in the zodiac sign of Aquarius this week.
Usually, this would signal a time for everyone to put aside their differences and interlock arms for the greater good, but that won’t be happening because of the dark planet in the room.
Pluto is a lot like the 13th fairy that nobody wants to invite for fear that she’ll spoil the party. Unfortunately, disasters often result from NOT inviting said fairy. This could materialize as a situation where you have to make a Faustian bargain, forge an unholy alliance, or bend the knee to someone you know is undeserving.
Do it. It may feel like you’re betraying everything you stand for, but sometimes you have to welcome the unwelcome characters into your life. They may start off as repugnant, but over time you may begin to see them in a new light.
In fact, they could prove to be truer friends than the people you thought were.
Once again, the Sun will be forming a square to Uranus, the planet of revolution and change, on February 8th. These are bi-annual occurrences when most of us watch in disbelief as our best-laid plans get turned upside down or inside out.
You can think of Sun/Uranus squares as Mercury retrogrades on steroids. This one will be particularly potent because of its close proximity to the New Moon in Aquarius. This signals something under the radar that’s bound to have a surprise impact.
Admittedly, this sounds a bit distressing, but Sun/Uranus squares are just as likely to bring a breakdown as a breakthrough. It really is anyone’s guess.
If it’s a breakdown, then think of this square as the only way out of a situation that’s dominated your life for months.
And if it’s a breakthrough? Then consider it payback for all those upset apple carts you’ve had to pick up after.
Striving doesn’t always result in arriving. There are plenty of times when one sets out to achieve a goal and things just don’t pan out.
Perhaps you launched too early, waited too long, or support for what you wanted to do came too late. Success is part timing, part circumstances, and mostly drive.
Mars, the planet of gumption and drive, and exalted in the zodiac sign of Capricorn, forms an extraordinary trine to Uranus in Taurus on January 29th. This signals that it’s time to press ahead with something you want.
Mars in an earth sign isn’t reckless like it is fire, dependent on others like it is in air, or retaliatory like it is in water; Mars in an earth sign is organized, disciplined, and infinitely pragmatic. In other words, you are pursuing something that may not produce results right away but with Uranus, a natural accelerant involved, it will be sooner than you expect.
Uranus, the planet of revolution and change, comes out of retrograde on January 27th. After weeks of backsliding, you will feel like you’re finally moving with the current of events rather than against it.
Uranus’s job in Astrology is to break down the things that aren’t working – like formulaic answers, out-of-date traditions, and conventional wisdom that’s no longer wise – and to push ahead with fresh perspectives, untried approaches, and innovative thinking.
No other planet is this forceful when it comes to overthrowing established modes, and you may find yourself struggling to make heads or tails of situations you once thought were rooted in place.
It’s important to remember during times like these to bend with the winds of change. You don’t want to be knocked down any more than you want to be blown away. You may not understand yet how all the pieces will fall in place, but this ensures that one day you will.
An extraordinary astrological event will be taking place on January 20th. This is when the Sun and Pluto form their last conjunction in the final degree of Capricorn before crossing over the zodiacal threshold into Aquarius.
For some signs (mostly the earth and water ones), this marks the concluding stage of a years’ long transformation that began in 2008 or 2009. You’ve completed your curriculum of trials and tribulations and are now your own person. You can no longer deny the individual you have worked so hard to be.
And for others? If you’re an air sign, the Sun and Pluto in Aquarius will bring a centeredness and command the likes of which you’ve never felt before. With this comes an accountability for your words and actions, so choose them carefully because there will be no passing the buck.
If you’re a fire sign, then you will experience an awakening from deep inside. There will be no more sitting on the sidelines. The rehearsal period for your life is over, and it’s time to step onstage.
Mars and Saturn are regarded as malefics in Astrology. In the classic tradition, these were the planets that brought harm and misfortune.
Mars was associated with cruelty and malice while Saturn was connected to bad luck and failure. However these planets didn’t always bring bad things any more than the benefics – Venus and Jupiter – brought good. It all depends on the relationship they make to one another in the sky.
This week reveals a positive side to Mars and Saturn. Mars becomes more assertive (rather than forceful) while Saturn rewards those who have stayed the course when things got tough. Even a Sun/Uranus trine on January 9th will bring out a more encouraging side to the typically unruly Uranus by making a farfetched idea surprisingly doable.
This is the week for bold moves (as long they’re mutually beneficial) and subtle breakthroughs that lead the way up and over an impasse. Follow the planets in this and you’ll discover that they’re not so malefic after all.
Perhaps the most telling feature of 2024 will be the prolonged stations of Neptune and Pluto at the 29th degree of their respective signs Pisces and Capricorn.
Neptune will be at 29 degrees Pisces from May 4th to September 3rd while Pluto will be at 29 degrees Capricorn from September 3rd to November 20th. The 29th degree is called the “anaretic degree” in Astrology, and it often signals things coming to a close because the 29th degree is the last degree of any zodiac sign.
For some astrological signs, this will signal a definitive parting of the ways, while others may experience this energy as the end of an obligation, the fulfillment of a long-delayed promise, or a quiet release from a situation that was holding them back.
How we end something has a strong impact on the beginning of anything new, so be mindful of the way you wind up your affairs. How you conclude matters in 2024 determines whether you will start 2025 on the right foot or take a stumble that you could have a hard time recovering from.
Jupiter, the planet of good fortune and higher purpose, comes out of retrograde on December 30th, and this, as you might imagine, is a good thing.
Many people think of Jupiter as the Santa Claus planet in Astrology, and they’re right; Jupiter brings boons and blessings like Santa delivers toys to girls and boys. And like Santa, Jupiter also keeps track of who’s been naughty and who’s been nice because Jupiter symbolizes – at its very core – the moral compass in your horoscope.
So, if you wake up on December 30th to a lucky break or a fortuitous turn of events, then you know that you’ve passed muster with the Divine Judge; however, if you wake up to find that there’s coal in your stocking – in the form of a rebuke or a penalty – then you should take that as a sign that you can do better.
The wonderful thing about Jupiter is that it will always make a point to reach out to those who have fallen short or gone astray. Commit to doing good in the world, and Jupiter will do good by you.
The wonderful thing about parting ways with something (or someone) that you should have said good-bye to long ago is the tremendous relief that comes rushing in. You thought you were going to be heartbroken – or at least depressed – but evidently your psyche has been champing at the bit for longer than you’re aware of because you haven’t felt this energized in weeks!
Look for loved ones and friends to applaud your decision and don’t be surprised if the other party thanks you for doing what they didn’t have the courage to do. It’s not every day when there’s an upside to a Venus/Uranus opposition (December 21st) so enjoy it.
Now the danger to newfound freedom is in diving back into something similar. Don’t be like the sheep on that online video that – when freed from a ditch by a helpful shepherd – goes joyfully bounding towards the same ditch only to get stuck again.
Savor your freedom and the fact that you don’t know what comes next. That’s what taking in the view is all about.
