The Lunar Nodes Explained
Hello, my name is Christopher Renstrom, and I'm your weekly horoscope columnist here on Astrology Hub. And this time, I wanted to talk to you about the lunar nodes having recently just changed zodiac signs.
The lunar nodes aren't physical objects like the planets are, but rather points on the ecliptic where the Moon's orbit intersects the Earth's. The ecliptic is the path that the Sun, Moon, and planets follow across the sky. This is a set path where the planets can be seen every night. For instance, if you go out and look at the planets at night, you know you don't see them spread all over the place, all right? They're on a specific path that they travel across the sky.
And that path, as I just described, is the ecliptic. Now, the constellations that are on the ecliptic—and this ecliptic surrounds the Earth—the constellations that are on the ecliptic are the constellations of the zodiac. So this is what creates the impression of the planets moving in front of the zodiac signs, much like the hands of a clock moving in front of the numbers that are set on the clock.
Now, the Moon doesn't always follow the same path exactly. Oftentimes, the Moon can be a little above the ecliptic or a little below the ecliptic, kind of like a bouncing ball, but a bouncing ball bouncing in slow motion. Now, the ecliptic got its name because the ancients saw that solar eclipses only happen when the Moon actually crosses the ecliptic and blocks the Sun's light.
This was likened to a dragon swallowing the Sun, which is what happens during a solar eclipse, or a dragon swallowing the Moon, which is what happens during a lunar eclipse. These astronomical crossings are part of the Moon's orbit, and the earliest documented interpretations are to be found in Mesopotamian eclipse omen literature.
And the dragon imagery comes from Persian astrology, particularly the Sasanian period, which is 224 to 651 CE—CE meaning the Common Era. This astrology was a mix of Babylonian, Hellenistic, and Hindu astrology and astronomy. In Middle Persian astronomical tradition, Gozihr came to designate an imaginary celestial dragon extending between the two lunar nodes.
The ascending node, where the Moon crossed the ecliptic from south to north, constituted the head of Gozihr (Gozihr Sar), while the descending node formed its tail (Gozihr Dom). Because solar and lunar eclipses only occur when the Sun and Moon are near the lunar nodes, Gozihr also became closely associated with eclipses.
A Manichaean Middle Persian text uses the expression to don Gozihr for the eclipsing of the Sun and Moon. Now, it's in Arabic and Latin astrology, which is from 750 to 1300 CE, it's from Arabic and Latin astrology that the nodes come to be known as Caput Draconis, which means the head of the dragon or the North Node, or the Cauda Draconis, which meant the tail of the dragon or the South Node.
It's the British astrologer and theosophist Alan Leo who introduces karma and reincarnation to modern Western astrology at the beginning of the 20th century. But Alan Leo didn't really connect those ideas to the nodes themselves. That distinction belongs to the astrologer Isabel Hickey in her book Astrology: A Cosmic Science, which was first published in June 1970.
It's Isabel Hickey who connects the nodes to past lives and the evolutionary development of the soul. The South Node is connected to challenges brought over from past life experiences, and the North Node is connected to the lessons we need to learn to overcome those challenges in order to find fulfillment.
In other words, you can think of the South Node as where you've been and the North Node as where you're going.
Now the nodes always travel in pairs, but they're opposite pairs, all right? So if the North Node is in the zodiac sign of Aquarius, then the South Node is going to be in the zodiac sign of Leo. That's because Leo is six signs away from Aquarius on the zodiacal wheel, or six months away from Aquarius in the calendar year.
Aquarius North Node Explained
So the North Node in Aquarius is basically describing where you're going, and this fits perfectly with Aquarius because Aquarius is very much a future-oriented sign. Indeed, eyes set on the future is very Aquarian, and that's because Aquarius is associated with Uranus, the planet of revolution and change.
But sometimes we can forget that Aquarius has two planetary rulers. There's Uranus, the modern ruler, and then there's Saturn, the traditional ruler. Uranus is always looking to the future, and Saturn is always looking to the past.
Now, Saturn believes that the best times are always behind us, okay? So the best times that humanity and civilization experienced in this world are back in ancient times when we were closer to the gods, when we were closer to life and the cosmos. This was a time of purity. This was a time when humankind lived in close connection to nature. So Saturn regards this as being the golden age, the beautiful period of time before things all went to hell in a handbasket. Uranus doesn't believe that the best times are behind us. Uranus believes that the best times are in front of us, that the best times are yet to come.
So Uranus can be very future- or very progressive-oriented. Doesn't wanna have anything to do with the past. It feels like the past is where all the mistakes were made, and it's the future that we can make up for those mistakes. We can atone for them. We can correct the history that we've been living, and we can live the life that we were always meant to live all along.
So this is the difference between the two planetary rulers: Saturn, the past, and Uranus, always the future. Now, you probably all are familiar with how Libra is the planet of the scales—you know, it's represented by the scales. Well, another image that we can use with Aquarius is the image of the pendulum.
And indeed, people born under Aquarius or who have Aquarius rising often swing like a pendulum between these two planets. If the person who's born under Aquarius or has Aquarius rising is too Saturnian, too constricted, too set on the past, then it will swing towards Uranus, the planet of liberation. In other words, it wants to get away from feeling too constricted and too formulaic, and it wants to be free and inventive and innovative.
And so it heads towards the future with a thrill and an exhilaration. But then if the Aquarius or the Aquarius rising gets too Uranian—in other words, if it gets too out there, too ahead of its time—then it will swing back towards Saturn, which is the planet of structure, and it's the planet where everything is organized and systemized.
So Aquarius or Aquarius rising people swing like a pendulum between the Saturnian organized, systemic type of thinking or the Uranian free, liberated, innovative, and inventive. They go in one direction too far, and then they will swing back automatically to the other one, which is why it's so hard for Aquarians to figure out where they stand on the spectrum that exists between these two planets, and it can lead to a lot of confusion and bewilderment.
Indeed, the idea of having a timing problem is built into the zodiac sign of Aquarius. Aquarius or Aquarius rising people have a hard time telling the difference between whether they're ahead of their time or whether their time has come. If you're ahead of your time, then you can be too avant-garde.
Your notions are too far ahead. People can't follow what you're saying. They look at you like you're crazy, and there are these huge question marks over their heads. You're not making any sense if you're too avant-garde or ahead of your time. But if your time has come, then what you're saying or what you're communicating is timely.
People get immediately what it is that you're talking about, and those question marks over their heads are replaced by light bulbs over their heads—light bulbs that are going off as they all have that aha moment, and they understand what the Aquarius or the Aquarius rising is talking about. But Aquarians don't always make sense, and then when their time has come, they do make sense, but then they can go back to that idea of being too ahead of their times.
And I think you can see where things can become rather troublesome and even very frustrating for people born under Aquarius and Aquarius rising. But in the end, Aquarius is an air sign, and air signs deal with relationships, which means that in the end, Aquarius is a utopian sign. That means it has a vision of the way that society should be.
You know, the perfect society where everyone fits in, everyone belongs, and there's a sense of equality, and there's a sense of collective equity, and society is good. It's a good place to be. Aquarians and Aquarius risings believe that the needs of the many will always, always outweigh the needs of the few.
Leo South Node Explained
So let's go ahead and talk about the South Node in Leo and what that's going to mean. The South Node, as I mentioned earlier, represents where you've been. Now Leo, as we all know, is ruled by the Sun, and the Sun in astrology is the only planet that's really a star. Indeed, the Sun is so unique and special and standalone that it blesses the people that are born under Leo with that same sense of uniqueness, that same sense of there are no two people like it, and that they are very individual and that they are very standalone.
Indeed, the zodiac sign of Leo places such a high value on individuality and making a personal difference that no other sign can compare when it comes to holding those values in high esteem. And if it weren't for the fire signs—and the fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius—if it weren't for the fire signs and Leo especially, we would all be living in a world of cookie-cutter cutouts.
“I've got to be me,” is the Leo motto. Now, Leo sees the Aquarian mindset as too conformist. This idea of “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”—I mean, that's okay. That sounds like a good moral statement. But where Aquarius is going in terms of creating the perfect design for living, you know, a utopian society where everyone belongs, strikes Leo too much as being conformist.
You know, if it's a collective, if it's where everybody belongs, then what do you have to do to belong in that society other than to conform to the rules and laws of that society? It calls to mind the old Japanese proverb, “The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.” And this is exactly what Leos are afraid of: that if Aquarius is too strong an energy, the insistence on conformity, no matter how idealistic or well-intentioned, still demands a sort of cookie-cutter sense of rank and file, and that there's no place for the person who stands out, for the person who's different, for the person that might be a maverick, or the person who might be incredibly enlightened and inspired and special, like a Leo.
So Leo is often associated with the ego, and ego, for some reason, has some bad associations with it. I mean, we hear the word ego, and you're not supposed to be egotistical or full of yourself, and egos are bad things. But the truth is, each one of us has an ego. Each one of us has an ego, and everyone needs an ego. You wouldn't be you without one.
So what is the South Node in Leo saying? Well, Leo can have a tendency to put limits on things because it lives in a golden orb of light. Imagine that you're a child of the Sun, which is what people born under Leo are. Well, if you're a child of the Sun, and the Sun is the ruling planet of people born under Leo, there is this feeling of living in a golden orb of light.
It's always daytime in Leo living. You know, it's never nighttime. The Sun may set when we're looking at the Sun, but when you're a Leo or living in a golden orb of light, you never set. The light is always on, and you're always burning with heat and vitality. So what can happen with people born under Leo or who have Leo rising is they can have a tendency to put limits on things. And where that comes from isn't that they're out to limit people or cramp their style or anything like that.
But what it is, is that people born under Leo or Leo rising can be self-referential. In other words, they can say to themselves, “Well, if I can't do something, how could someone else do it?” Okay? And they're more likely to say that to someone else. Imagine for a moment a Leo parent, and they have a child who wants to be an actor, you know.
And the Leo parent would be like, “Well, I wasn't an actor, and I couldn't see myself as being an actor, so how could you?” Okay, it's that self-referential. And the child can be like, “Well, you know, I'm dramatic, and I'm good with my voice, and I can really do stage acrobatics.”
You know, and so the Leo parent might be like, “Mm, I don't see it happening. I mean, it didn't happen in my life. I didn't really understand it like that, so I don't see how it can happen in yours.”
So what can happen, because what's being limited here is the scope of light that we have in the day, Leos live in this light so that anything outside that light is dark or unknowable or just doesn't make any sort of sense to them. So what can happen, more psychologically speaking, is that these limits on self that Leos can put on themselves can get projected onto other people. And that sort of goes hand in hand alongside this idea that what's true for me is true for everybody else.
And this can make Leos sometimes sound like they're very naive or very closed-minded or even biased because what they're saying is, “I don't see how that could apply to you. It doesn't make any sense to me, so it should make no sense to you.”
Again, at first it might sound a little silly, as I said, or naive, but that can be the way that Leos can sum up things in life. “I just don't see it happening,” might be a phrase that they would use, but the reason why they can't see it happening is because they didn't see it happening in their own lives.
And so Leos, when they feel like their individuality is at risk or their say-so is being questioned, can come down even more so on that—drawing from what's true for me in a sense of “and it should be true for you.” And that can close people born under Leo or Leo rising off to other ideas or alternative approaches or maybe even just different perspectives—perspectives or views of the world that are different from their own.
Leos just don't see it, and that's something that people born under Leo or Leo rising kind of have to work on at times.
Now let me go ahead and talk about how the nodes going into the zodiac signs of Aquarius and Leo are going to affect each of the 12 zodiac signs.
Aries
For people who are born under Aries or who have Aries rising, the North Node being in Aquarius and the South Node being in Leo is going to be really beneficial for you.
The reason it's going to be beneficial for you is because you get where each of these two zodiac signs are coming from. They're kind of speaking your language. Now, the reason the North Node in Aquarius is speaking your language is because Aquarius is an air sign. Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
These are the signs that are all about relationship. These are the signs that are pretty cerebral in terms of their temperament, and these are the signs that pretty much want everyone else to get along. Now at first, that might not really sound like it's going to be simpatico with an Aries. Aries is ruled by Mars, which is named after the Roman god of war, after all. And so people born under Aries or who have Aries rising tend to do things on their own, and they tend to basically look to themselves and not other people in terms of getting through something, whether they're going to power through something or rise to a challenge or solve a problem.
They're not really likely to go to other people to ask for their opinion or support or advice. But when you think about Aries for a little bit and you think about Mars, the ruling planet, being named after the Roman god of war, then you can't help but think of an army or a militia, okay? These are people who are fighting together.
They're on the same side of a conflict or a problem or a struggle, and they are fighting together, and they are fighting against what is the opposition, or what is the enemy, or what might be an oppressive or domineering type of entity in their lives—whether it's government, or a bully on the playground, or just maybe an enemy country, or something along those lines.
So that idea of banding together, that idea of banding together in an army or a group is something that actually Aries does really understand.
And because Aquarius is the air sign that we most associate with a group of people, this is something that Aries understands.
Another thing that's creating an understanding between the two zodiac signs is that Aquarius is an air sign and Aries is a fire sign. These are elements that get one another. They understand one another. They encourage one another. Air and fire are both regarded as being masculine elements in astrology—or another way of putting it might be yang elements—and they're very much associated with being empowered, with being energized.
Actually, they're very much associated with being energy in a sense. They move things, okay? And air and fire can come together, like, for instance, a hot air balloon. You know, you step into the basket or the gondola, and you turn on the gas, and then the flame comes on, and the flame inflates the balloon, and the balloon lifts up off the ground and you're flying.
Okay, so this idea of flight, this idea of energizing, this idea of empowering is very much an air and a fire sensibility, and the two of them complement one another. They encourage one another, and they bring out—the air brings out more of the fire in fire, and fire brings out more of the air in air, and they come together, and this is a good and energetic thing.
So what can happen here with Aries forming a sextile to the North Node in Aquarius, if the North Node is where you're going, then you might be going through a period of time, if you're born under Aries or you have Aries rising, where you're combining forces with other people. You know, maybe you're part of a team.
Maybe you're part of an army or a militia. Maybe you're part of a project, a group of people who are brought together by common interests, who might be struggling to make the world a better place or might be struggling to understand pottery in a pottery class, okay? But here is this idea of coming together with other people that you might not have come together with otherwise.
You know, these aren't kin. These aren't necessarily your neighbors or friends or acquaintances. These might be people that you are drawn to because you have interests in common. You have common interests. And being an Aries, and your ruling planet being Mars, you might sort of feel like a foot soldier in the cause here.
Like people are coming together and they're upholding a good cause, or they're making pottery or macramé or something like that together, and this is a good thing, and everyone belongs in this group. And so this is something that's going to make you feel understood and like you can create or think or work with other people.
And this is a good thing for Aries and people born under Aries and Aries rising.
So then we go ahead and we look at the South Node in Leo. The South Node in Leo is forming a trine to Aries, so this is actually a good thing. This means that Aries can let go of things from the past. If we go back to Isabel Hickey's interpretation of North and South Nodes, a South Node is basically the baggage you're bringing with you that you don't want to be repeating in your life, and the North Node is going to show you how not to repeat that.
Okay, so what might be sort of baggage that would come from a South Node in Leo? Well, the baggage might be the idea of individuality and standing apart, you know? Now, again, that's not going to really be seen as a negative thing if you're born under Aries or have Aries rising because you're a fire sign, so you're very spirited and you're very individual.
But where it might show up is if you're trumpeting the accomplishments of a group or you've found a project that you really believe in, you might, in Aries fashion, want everyone to be on board. You know, that this is exciting, this is good, it serves a good cause, everyone should be on board. And so what happens to the people who aren't as on board, okay?
What happens to the people who disagree with the way that things are being done in the group? Or the people who are slowing the group down, or who are whining about all the hard work that has to be done by the group, or maybe aren't even putting in their fair share, okay? As an Aries or an Aries rising, you might get angry at that.
Okay, you might be sort of like, “Why are you not doing your fair share? Why are you being lazy?” Or, “This group stands for wonderful things and higher principles. Why are you complaining about it?” Or, “Why are you laughing with a friend in the corner?” You know? So this might bring out the more Mars-y side of you, and that Mars side could come out in terms of enforcing the will of the group, the way that things should be done.
You know, that you might take it upon yourself to break up the laughing that's going on in the corner. You know, you might take it upon yourself to get the people that you think are lazy up and moving: “Come on. Let's go for this.” Or you might be chastising people for having a different opinion or for not espousing the principles of the group.
There can be a sort of sergeant-at-arms quality that can come out here. Aries is, at the end of the day, a good soldier. But sometimes what can happen when you get the South Node energy going here is that you can become an enforcer. You want to make sure that everyone's on board. So what you want to do during this period of time that the South Node is traveling through Leo—and the South Node will be in Leo for one and a half years—what you want to do during this period of time that the South Node is in Leo is work on your tolerance of difference.
You know, if not everyone's on board, that's okay. Let them not be on board. They're going to get out of it what they're going to get out of it, or if they don't feel part of the group or project, then they're going to leave in some way, probably on their own.
But it's not your job to make sure that they're doing their part. You know, no one asked you to, and that's not what's going on here. What you don't want to become during this year-and-a-half period is the hammer that pounds down the nail that sticks out. And so this gives you a good opportunity to sort of reflect on those enforcer tendencies of yours and to sort of maybe adopt a more laissez-faire attitude of people being in a group.
And that if people aren't into it, eventually over a period of time, they'll be left out, or they'll take themselves out, or they'll depart, or the group will go on without them. But it's not up to you to make sure that everyone's exhilarated, everyone's excited, and that everyone's adopting the proper discipline, focus, and approach. You know, that's something that's up to the group. That's something that the group will take care of, which is pretty much what appealed to you about joining this group in the first place.
Taurus
If you're born under Taurus or you have Taurus rising, you can be having some difficulties during this year and a half that the North Node is traveling through the zodiac sign of Aquarius and that the South Node is traveling through the zodiac sign of Leo. Now, why are you going to have issues with this?
Why are you going to have problems with this? The reason you're going to have problems with this in particular is because these are two zodiac signs that square you, okay? They're fixed signs just like you are, and they have very different ways of approaching things than you do. If you were born under Taurus or if you have Taurus rising, you will always subscribe to the idea of hard work.
Okay? You work very hard at what you do in life, and you're very industrious, and you do what you're told and you get things done. And basically, you've developed a way of working over a period of time, which is a good way of working. You know, it's very consistent, it's very systematic, people get it, and you get results.
The job gets done. And so you like that. That's a good thing, okay? And so this is sort of Taurus' approach to life and living: if you work hard and you get paid for it or you get the results that you were going for, then you can live a happy and comfortable life, okay? And when you come home from work, you don't work anymore.
You hang out, you enjoy yourself, you see friends, you watch a movie, you join a dinner party, you go on a lovely vacation. You know, you've worked and earned that time off. You've earned that time away. And so this is something that's really enjoyable. So people born under Taurus aren't just worker ants, you know, or worker bees, and that's all their life is.
They work really hard, and that's in order to earn things—to earn the awards and the rewards of hard work. And this is something that you enjoy and you aim to enjoy to the fullest. Now, when we've got a North Node in Aquarius and a South Node in Leo and Taurus squaring the two of them, this is said to be at the bendings.
In other words, your sign squares the two nodes, and it feels basically pulled in two directions by these two nodes. Let me sort of unpack that a little bit more for you. When you have a North Node in Aquarius, and particularly if you have the North Node in Aquarius that's going to show up in your solar horoscope in the 10th house, then you're going to be pulled in the direction of doing things better than the way that you are doing them right now.
In other words, the North Node in Aquarius raises your sights. This is something that Aquarius is always doing. Aquarius wants things to be higher than they were before. There's a higher self. There's a higher mind. There's a higher consciousness. Aquarius is always looking up to heaven. Aquarius is always looking up to the stars.
This is Aquarians' orientation. This is their tendency. This is what they feel like they've been put on Earth to do, is to bring out the best in everyone, to reach for the stars, to live according to eternal truths and higher ideals. When you're a Taurus or a Taurus rising, that sounds really fancy and it sounds pretty good, but at the end of the day, you have to get things done and take care of things in life so you can go home and enjoy a really fun time with friends and family and loved ones, okay?
So you're into improvement, but not improvement that's just kind of open-ended, or where is this leading, or it's good for all of humanity, or anything along those lines. You believe very strongly and very powerfully that everyone should take care of themselves, you know? And this is an Earth sign sensibility.
It's something that's shared by Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn: that people are capable of taking care of themselves, and they should be set up in life so that they can do that to the best of their ability, and they should work hard and honestly for that. And basically, taking care of yourself is seen as a sign of autonomy.
And it's also seen as something that you respect: the way that someone takes care of themselves, or the way that someone works, or the way that someone approaches life. Indeed, that idea of kind of minding your own business can also be very Taurean. You're not going to go and tell other people what to do or how to live their lives.
I mean, you've got your way of how you're living your life, but that's their business. That's things that they're taking care of on their side of the fence, which can be a very strong Taurean sensibility. But with this North Node in Aquarius so high up in your solar chart, you're feeling like you should reach for something higher.
Even if you're totally happy with your life, okay, you might be feeling a pressure to reach for something higher, to make changes in your life that bring in a broader or a more collective point of view. And again, people born under Taurus may have a hard time with that because it's the idea of like, “Don't mess with my stuff,” okay?
Like, “This is what I earned. This is what I built for myself, and leave it alone. Just because I built these things for myself doesn't mean that I should start giving them away to other people,” or something along those lines. I mean, Taurus kind of can have a problem with sharing because Taurus can be very territorial or very possessive, so it doesn't really want to share.
Taurus will provide, which is a different idea from sharing. Taurus will absolutely provide and shelter and show you how to do something. But the idea of just giving someone something, or sharing what you worked hard for with someone, that's something that can really be uncomfortable for people born under Taurus.
If someone says, “Oh, that's a great sweater. Can I borrow it?” Taurus is like, “Ugh.” You know, they're pulled in two opposite directions because the Venus part—Taurus is ruled by Venus—wants to share, you know. But the Earth part is like, “Get your own,” type of thing. So what Taurus will often do is, instead of lending the sweater, which is like an impossible thing for a Taurus to do—lending is like, mm—they'd rather go out and buy someone their own sweater that they can have.
And so Taurus doesn't have to worry about when they're going to get it back or what shape it's going to come back in. So this idea of doing things for the good of everyone in a sort of collective way, without people being held accountable for what they did in terms of their part or giving their best effort, that's something that Taurus can have a hard time wrapping their mind around.
But nevertheless, the North Node in Aquarius is asking you to do exactly that. Now, when we go and we look at Leo, okay, which is where the South Node is going, and the South Node is passing through the bottom part of your chart, it's passing through the root of your chart. What this is indicating is that there needs to be a change in the way you think and the way that you feel.
It's not a change in the way that you think-think. It's a change in the way that you think about people, in the way that you feel about people—that you might have gotten very set in your ways recently. And so, as a Taurus or a Taurus rising, you may feel like the way that you do things is good, and you don't want it messed with.
You don't want it being changed. You don't want people picking it apart or something. People born under Taurus or Taurus rising can have a very powerful reaction to change in terms of resisting change, because it's this feeling that people are just changing things for change's sake, you know, or because it's hard, and they want to make it easier or more convenient, you know.
And Taurus can be like, “Mm, I'm not into that.” And what can happen with the South Node going through Leo is that you may have a personal investment in the way that things are done, okay? That, “I've always done it this way. This is good for me, and actually, if you're smart, it would be good for you, too, so maybe you want to follow this.”
And as a Taurus or a Taurus rising, you've probably set up a situation for yourself in life where people are working under you, or if they're working with you, they're pretty much doing it your way, okay? Because your way is efficient. It's good. It produces results. It gets things done. And so you feel really good about this.
What might be happening is that maybe people are having differences with it. They're having issues with it. They feel like it's been done the same way too long or too consistently, or it's taken away creativity or innovation, something like that. And you might not like those ideas. You might take that criticism personally, or you might feel like, “Who are you to…” or, “If you've got such a great way of doing it, why don't you take over this and show me how it should be done?” type of thing.
And so there may be conflict that's going on here. And what you need to keep in mind is that the South Node is where you need to go. You need to think in terms of what is the higher good. You need to think in terms of what includes everyone. You need to think in terms of innovation and invention and trying something new.
And what you might need to get away from—or, you know, you might see as a negative pattern of habit that's following you into your life—what you might want to question is this “my way or the highway” type of mentality: that you do things the way that I do them or you can get lost. And so that might be things that are coming up for you over the next year and a half that the South Node is moving through Leo.
This could show up in the workplace. This could show up in a family situation where maybe people are coming into your household. Maybe it's someone who's going out with a kid of yours, or someone who's marrying a cousin of yours, and you just don't sort of like the way that this person's looking at life or talking about things.
And you might be feeling a bit territorial and heavy-handed with the home. And so these are things to look out for in your life: that change is happening. You know what that's like. You've been through seven years of Uranus in Taurus, and you understand all of that. But you may also have a personal investment in the way that you do things, and the way that you do things should be the way that everyone does these things, okay? Leo on the South Node.
And that's something to take a look at during this time. You can gradually come to an understanding of how to incorporate all of this. But as was said before when we were talking about the North and South Nodes, the lessons of the North Node might be a little bit difficult for you and might be a little alien for you—this idea of taking on these lessons to change something that's always worked for you before.
And so if you can find some humor, and if you can find some curiosity, and if you can sort of not see it as being a personal challenge to you, but just another way of doing something, and sort of have an open mind about it—doesn't mean you have to agree with it, just have an open mind about it so that you have more of a conversation rather than resistance—then I think that you can find this period of time of the North Node moving through Aquarius to be incredibly enlightening and even refreshing.
Gemini
If you're born under Gemini or you have Gemini rising, this period of time when the North Node is moving through the zodiac sign of Aquarius and the South Node is moving through the zodiac sign of Leo, this period of time is going to be a wonderful period of time for you. This period of time, by the way, lasts another year and a half.
The reason why it's going to be so good for you is because the North Node in Aquarius—and the North Node is basically where you're going in life—the North Node in Aquarius forms a trine to your own zodiac sign, Gemini. Gemini is an air sign, just like Aquarius is an air sign, and when you have a trine, that is unconditional support that's going on between the two signs.
They're completely in one another's corner, and there's no question, no doubt about it. So if the North Node is where I'm going in my life, you're being drawn to a brighter future, a better place, a better way of living. This is what's being shown to you right now with the North Node going through that part of your solar chart that we often refer to as being the ninth house.
And the ninth house is the idea of getting out in the world. It's the idea of getting out into your future, getting away from the familiar routines, the familiar ties, and trying something that's completely new and different. The ninth house can even feel like a calling of sorts. You know, that you're feeling this calling to leave what you've known and to try something new and different.
And this is what you're going to be feeling during the period of time that the North Node is traveling through Aquarius. There may be new people in your life. New people may be bringing new opportunities in your life. You may be presented with an opportunity to create a world the way that you think it should be.
Now, that sounds a little cosmic, but let me say you're given a project, and the person who's given you this project or assigned this project to you says, “You know what? Go crazy with it. Do whatever you want with it. We're going to make these resources available. These people are here on hand to give you information if you need it. You have carte blanche. You can do whatever you want here. We're going to support you in everything that you want to do.”
And so that might be a project. That might be a class that you're teaching. That might be a home that you're designing or packaging or selling. So that's what I mean by you get to create the world that you want. That could be a company. That could be a neighborhood committee. You know, you're being given the carte blanche and the support, everyone's there to basically go and realize your vision.
So what is the South Node in Leo going to do? The South Node, as we've discussed before, is about what you're leaving behind. It can even be this idea of past baggage or past patterns that you're leaving behind because they've been holding you back. They've been getting you down. You don't need these things in your life anymore.
And so what you're leaving behind as you move towards your future is probably your past, right? And what I mean by your past, I'm not saying that you're adopting an entirely different name and changing your hair color and living your life as Lily, okay? So I'm not saying that, but you're leaving behind what's familiar.
That might be the familiar routines. That might be a set lifestyle. That might be friends and acquaintances, even time with loved ones. You're leaving this behind and going to a different place. And what you might be saying to yourself, and even them, is, “I'm not like that anymore.” You know, it's sort of like you're hanging out with your buddies, and they love to go to the steakhouse, and all of a sudden you show up one day and you're a vegetarian, you know?
And they're kind of like, “Huh? When did you become a vegetarian?” And you're like, “I've become a vegetarian because I just feel like I want to do something for my body, and it feels like a more clean and healthy way of living.” And they're like, “Oh, okay. Like, what do you order, a salad or something?” It's like, “No, we can go… Maybe we can go to a vegetarian restaurant. Maybe you guys would be interested in that.” And they're like, “Mm, I don't know.”
And so maybe they go to the vegetarian restaurant with you, or maybe you go to the steakhouse and order salad and something like that. But over a period of time, your friends may want to get you back to the person who went to the steakhouse with them, you know? They might be like, “Okay, live and let live, and it's great that you're a vegetarian.” But they might be like, “Don't you miss steaks? Don't you miss burgers? Don't you miss eating like that?”
And you might be sort of like, “Well, no.” And you're trying to stand up for a new way of living, and you might feel like your friends are making you go back into that way of being, you know? And it doesn't have to be about steakhouses, but it could be like any sort of pursuit or ambition or aim that you have where you feel like you're bettering yourself, and you might be surrounded by people who say, “I don't see it,” you know. “That's not you. You always liked, you know, tucked into a good New York sirloin,” type of thing.
Or, “Well, that's not you. Like, why are you all of a sudden being poetic and sensitive? You used to be one of the funniest people around, and cut down people and kind of like deflate their overinflated egos. Like, why are you all of a sudden being sensitive?”
So what's happening is that where people close to you in your life have had this idea of who you are, and you're leaving that, they're faced with losing their loved one, or their friend, or their buddy. And so they're going to find ways perhaps to sabotage, or to undermine, or to get you back on track to the things that you used to do together.
So in a way, this period of time could bring disruptions in your relationships and associations. You know, “You're not like you used to be,” and, “You're no fun,” or, “Why are you doing this?” You know, and what's happening is that you might be learning that loved ones and friends and associates thought that they knew you, and they might have felt like they still know you—maybe that they even know you better than you know yourself, and that's why you're making this mistake, and come back and join everybody.
So this could be a period of time of disruption, and this could be a period of time of difficulty. And so you might find yourself at different times over the next year and a half having to choose who you want to fraternize with, who you want to hang out with. You might be drawn more to the people who are connected to that future vision you have of yourself, or that calling that you're following, or the way that you think that things should be.
You might want to be more with them because they're supporting you in it. They see you doing this. They think it's really great, you know. And so you might be spending less time with the people who thought they knew you better than you know yourself, or who feel betrayed by you in terms of a friendship or association.
You know, “How can you leave our table at the cafeteria and go hang out with the chess club group? Come back to the cheerleader table,” or something like that. I don't know. But it's like, “How can you leave… Why are you leaving the football club to go join the drama club? Come back to the table here.”
And that can bring conflict. But because the North Node is always talking about where you're going, your right to pursue new paths, your right to pursue new ideas, and a new notion of yourself, a new expression of yourself than you've had before—and if that means leaving people that used to know you, that's fine.
I'm sure it's not going to be forever. They might find a way of reconnecting with you again. And if they do, that's great. You don't always have to agree on everything, but the friendship may be what's important. The relationship may be what's important. And if it doesn't work out like that, then it basically kind of means that the time of the friendship or the time of the association has come and gone, you know—that you're no longer a part of one another's lives.
And that's not a bad thing. It just is basically a testament of life and growing. But what's important is that you commit to growing and not feel like you have to hold yourself back in order to make other people feel comfortable or to be part of a group that perhaps you've outgrown.
Cancer
If you're born under Cancer or you have Cancer rising, this period of time that the North Node is passing through Aquarius and the South Node is passing through Leo, this is going to be a bit of a problematic period for you. Now, I'm intentionally using the word “problematic.” That doesn't mean bad, that doesn't mean disastrous, and that doesn't mean catastrophic.
What it means is problematic—that you're going to be facing certain challenges, certain problems, certain issues, and that you're going to be asked to change the way that you approach them and even understand them. Now, the thing that we're dealing with with these nodes is that they're going right across the solar chart and have to impact your money houses, okay?
So the nodes are passing through the house that rules over the money you share with others, and it's passing through the house of the money that belongs to you. Now, the money that you share with others is basically referred to as the eighth house in astrology, and it's the eighth house of the solar horoscope that I'm going to be addressing.
Now, that could be money that you owe people—debt is one of the things that's associated to the eighth house. It could be money that you owe other people, or it could be money that's owed to you from other people, and that you're having a problem or difficulty collecting that. But what's happening here is basically there is going to be an increase in your financial obligations, okay?
In other words, there's going to be an uptick in the demands that people are making on you financially or the demands that people are making on you to take care of them. Now, that doesn't mean that you're going to be facing people in your life who are standing arms akimbo and saying like, “Take care of me,” and, “I want to be taken care of right now.”
That's not what's going on. But you may be dealing with people who are going through some sort of financial hardship, you know, or some sort of period of time in their life where they really lean on you, where they really need you, where they really rely on you. And so you may feel, in a way, out of your depth, you know.
You may feel like you want to be there for them, and that's great, and you are there for them emotionally, but you might be questioning whether you can be there for them financially. And that's what I mean by out of depth. There was an interview that I was hearing the other night where this woman was talking about how she had gotten into financial debt, and she said, “I was fine, but then this one year took place.” Last year, she was referencing. “My mother came to live with us, and we had two children in our family.” Like, they had had a child before—she and her husband had had a child before—and there was another kid that was coming into the household.
And so there were financial obligations. You know, they had gone from a household of maybe three—the two parents and a child—to a household of five: another child and a mother or a mother-in-law. And so there were financial obligations, and the strain and the stress was starting to show.
So basically, I'm not saying that this is what's happening in your life, but you may be feeling like you're in a situation where you're carrying more obligation. You're carrying more responsibility than you're used to, and you may feel put upon during this period of time, and you may feel like it's all on you.
Now, you might be wondering, “Okay, isn't the North Node supposed to show like where I'm going and what lesson I'm supposed to learn in life? I mean, like, what's the lesson here?” Well, the lesson here is a very complex one because the relationship between Cancer and Aquarius is very complex. It's not a relationship that's easy to understand or get, and that's because Cancer and Aquarius don't make what we call a Ptolemaic aspect to one another in astrology.
They don't form a conjunction. They don't oppose. They don't square. They don't trine. They don't sextile, okay? In fact, the word that we use here is quincunx. And so what it is, is that something's being communicated to you that you don't really get, okay? You have a response to it, but you're not really getting what's being said.
And so with financial obligations and feeling put upon and like it's all on you, your response, for instance, during this period of time might be to take on more of a parental role, you know. And what I mean by parental role, it might be like, “Okay, this is all on my shoulders. And so if it's all on my shoulders, then I'm alone with it. No one can help me out. I'm the parent here, and you guys have to do what I say.”
That might be what comes out during this time, which is like, “I'm taking on the responsibility and the obligation, but you're going to have to do what I say,” okay? What a parent says to a kid: “As long as you live in this house, you're going to have to do what I say.” You know, that kind of an idea.
But as I said, Aquarius operates in an energy that's very different from Cancer. Cancer can understand hearth. It can understand home. It can understand family, and it can understand parent, okay? Cancer is the Good Mother in astrology. What the North Node in Aquarius is asking you to do is to be open to what others have to say, all right?
And particularly, to be open to what others have to say—the other people that you need to be open to what they have to say are the people who need your help. And that might be a little bit of a, “Huh? I mean, if they need my help, that means that they're struggling, and they can't take care of themselves, so I need to step on in and help them out.”
But what's important to understand here, and I think it's the lesson that Aquarius is trying to teach you, is just because someone needs your help doesn't mean they're helpless, all right? That they have thoughts, ideas, advice, suggestions—they're not helpless. They're not just like crying babies.
And so what the North Node in Aquarius is trying to get you to do is to not infantilize people who are depending on you—you know, treating them like children or infants even. Don't infantilize them. And at the same time, don't go into self-sacrifice mode either, you know, like parental mother. “I have to be self-sacrificing”—you don't have to go into that either, because that feels like to me like it's really triggering the South Node in Leo, which is this feeling of just like, “I'm out of my element, and I don't know if I can do this,” and just getting really emotional, maybe even hysterical about it because you've insisted that you're alone, and no one understands it, and you're going to be self-sacrificing.
Just because you're taking care of someone doesn't mean that they can't participate in their own care, you know. So I think if people are going through an emotionally hard time or financial hard time or something along those lines, what you kind of want to do is co-pilot with them, you know. You want to include these people in financial decisions. You don't want to tell them what to do—you want to include them in financial decisions.
Ask them what they see as being sustainable, or ask them what they see as being affordable, or how they want to approach an issue or problem. Include the people who are relying on you in the financial decisions that you're making. Make a point to talk things through. Aquarius is an air sign—it needs to talk things through.
If there's a problem, stress, issue, emotional discomfort, you talk about those problems. You talk it through. Air signs—Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, and especially Aquarius—believe in the talking cure. And if we can talk things through, then we can come to a better understanding. We don't feel so isolated. We don't feel so alone, and we don't feel so angry or afraid, you know.
And so if you can include the people who are relying on you in financial decisions, if you can talk things through, if you can—if this is finances—study numbers dispassionately, you know, without… Study the figures and not the feelings, you know, or analyze the figures and keep the feelings out of it, which is also a very Aquarian thing, then I think that you will find that you and your partner, or the people who are relying on you, will wind up making very wise and sustainable decisions.
When you go into the “it's all on me,” which is the South Node in Leo, right? It's all on me, and I'm flipping out here, and I'm just there… This is the South Node energy, and it's being personally invested in finances. Okay, if you go to that place, then people can't help you, and you're panicking, or it can come out as resentment, and “you have to do things my way” or whatever, and you're cutting yourself off from the help and the assistance that people can bring in working collectively with you to get through this period of time.
The people in your life have as much stake in all of this as you do, so don't shut them out. Don't see them as being unable. Include them with what's going on. Not only will this take a lot of the pressure off of you, a lot of the burden off your shoulders, you may even gain some tremendous insights along the way.
Leo
If you're born under Leo or you have Leo rising, this period of time that the North Node is in Aquarius and the South Node is in Leo is going to be a bit backwards for you. Not backwards in a retrograde sense, like when a planet is moving backwards in the sky, or retrograde as in returning back to something.
It's going to be backwards for you because you're trying to figure out how to move forward, okay? Everything is being seen in reverse. Let me try another way of describing that to you. The North Node is in the zodiac sign of Aquarius, and the North Node is where you want to go, okay? This is where you want to go in life for the next year and a half.
That's basically what a North Node transiting through a sign is saying: you want to go towards Aquarius, okay? And Aquarius, as we were talking about earlier in this forecast, has a more collective view of things. You know, it's not about one person being more special than anyone else—it's about doing what's good for everyone.
Aquarius subscribes to the idea that society is only as good as the people in it. And so basically what that translates as is each person in a society has a responsibility to be the best person that they can be. And if they're being the best person that they can be, then that society is improved. It's made a better place.
And then if you're not doing that, then the society is not improved. It's not being made a better place. So Aquarius doesn't really totally have this anonymous collective idea of people. It actually really looks to people as individuals to work together to make a good society or to make a good life, okay?
So this is where the North Node is pointing you to: it's joining with other people. And it's traveling through your solar seventh house in astrology. I use the solar horoscope when making these forecasts. And so what's happening here is that you need to join with other people in order to feel fulfilled as a person.
As Isabel Hickey was saying before, you know, the North Node is showing you the lessons you need to learn that are going to release you from past patterns that have been keeping you back, all right? Now, when we look at the South Node and see that it's in Leo, you know, it's perfectly understandable that you would be like, “Oh, that's great. Like, I've been keeping myself back. That's flattering. Like, I have to lose myself. You know, I'm the mistake. I'm the one who's wrong.”
And that might be what you're kind of feeling these days. You know, in a way, you might be feeling like you're always wrong and everyone else is always right, or like you don't fit in, or like the things that used to work for you are no longer working in the way that they did before, and you're trying to figure out what's up with that, okay?
And essentially, it's not a critique of you or the way that you've been living your life. What it's more along the lines of is there are certain behaviors or patterns in your life that you've gone as far as you can go with them, okay? And what you're experiencing is a complete change in the way that you relate to the world.
Now, a lot of times when we feel confronted by a change like this, it can make us feel like everything we've been doing is wrong, or we've failed in some way, and that's really not what the South Node is saying. I can see how it could be interpreted that way. You know, the South Node is kind of making a bit of a judgment statement here, which is like, “You need to leave behind everything, you know, that you did before, you know? You've outgrown it. Now to go back to it would be immature, or backsliding, or devolving,” or something along those lines.
And of course, when the South Node is going through your sign, that's you that everyone's talking about. So I think what it's more like is the way that you see the world and the way that you see relationships. A lot of times I will describe the rising sign—and right now the South Node is going through the first house, which is the rising sign—a lot of times I'll describe the rising sign as how you show up in the world.
And the descendant, the descending sign, better known as the seventh house, is how the world shows up in your life. So you may have outgrown certain ways of being. You know, the things that used to work, like I said before, aren't working like they did before. It's not that you're wrong—it's more like you've outgrown it.
You don't need to do that anymore. You're sort of like the proverbial snake that's shedding its skin. You're ready to go onto another step, another unfoldment in your life, which was more of the humanistic astrological perspective of the nodes. And so this is more like you need to become more Aquarian and less Leo.
Now, this doesn't mean you have to get rid of your ego or anything like that. No, you get to hold onto your ego. You get to hold onto your sense of self. What you may need to do is discover who you are now. There was a saying that appeared on the Temple of Delphi. There were two very famous sayings that appeared on the Temple of Delphi.
And the Temple of Delphi, if you're not familiar with it, housed the Oracle of Apollo. It was very famous in the ancient world, and people would come to Delphi, not to have their fortunes told, but they would ask a question, and then the Pythia, who was the High Priestess of Apollo, would answer, typically in a very cryptic and hard-to-figure-out way.
And that's because this wasn't a question-and-answer session. What it was, is the god was speaking in a way that wasn't meant to be cryptic, more the idea of divine being a larger way of thinking than the human way of thinking, you know, and that it was up to us to sort of tease out what the god was saying.
But one of the phrases that was written over the top of the temple doorway as you entered was, “Know thyself.” And at first, that sounds like a very simple phrase: know thyself. It's like, okay, I know that I'm, you know, funny, or heartwarming, or great to be with, or caring as a person.
Like, I mean, you can go through how you know yourself, how you would describe yourself is often what we think about knowing—know thyself, how we would describe ourselves. But the self that we need to know is not static. The self is growing and changing. You know, if someone were to say, “Know thyself,” or, “Tell me about yourself at the age of seven,” the description you would give at the age of seven would not be the description that you would give at the age of 14, nor would it be the description that you would give at the age of 25 or 39 or 50 or 69, okay?
Although you are yourself, you're always yourself, your self is growing. Your self is changing. You know, even if people are kind of looking at you like, “What have you become?” or, “What have you done with your life?” chances are the seeds of that were always there, okay? And they've grown, you know, as you've grown into your life.
You know, so sometimes people can see you as like, “Oh, you fulfilled who you were always meant to be,” or maybe you didn't, or maybe you went off track, or maybe you had to lose yourself to find yourself somewhere else, you know, that you were living according to the scaffolding of other people's expectations, and you had to leave that behind to find yourself again.
So “know thyself” isn't a static statement. It's a statement that's in motion. It's asking you to know who you are as you are unfolding and as you are growing. With the South Node going through your own zodiac sign right now, you're growing into the other stage of you. You are evolving as a person, and so you're leaving certain things behind.
You know, that description that you gave of yourself at the age of seven probably doesn't fit who you are right now any more than the clothes that you wore at the age of seven could even physically fit your body right now. You've outgrown it. And so that's essentially what the South Node going through your zodiac sign is saying.
And then it's pointing you to Aquarius. And in pointing you to Aquarius, and in pointing you towards your relationship to the world and your relationship in your own relationships, things are growing more than they are changing, or the change is in service to growth. It may be an understanding that maybe perhaps you've outgrown the relationship, and it just doesn't make any sense to you anymore.
Or maybe you're moving into an era, a time in your life in which your relationship is changing. You know, there may be other concerns that are pressing heavily right now, or there may be obligations that you've fulfilled, and they're not as heavy as they were, and you realize, “Wow, those obligations defined me for such a long period of time. Who am I without these obligations?” you know?
And so you might find yourself going towards past patterns, going back to maybe where you lived or people you knew or whatever to sort of find yourself again. And you may feel like those don't have the answers anymore—that this isn't who you are. It's not who you are anymore. That you need to move towards the future, you know, which is the Uranian aspect of the Aquarius.
So is there going to be some pendulum swinging between the past and the future? Yes, 'cause that's something that is very much associated to Aquarius. Aquarius has two ruling planets: Uranus and Saturn. Uranus is always looking ahead, and Saturn is always bemoaning what has been lost to the past, okay?
So Aquarius energy swings back and forth between the future and the past. And so you may also feel like you're being torn in those two different directions. But you're not being made to decide, because ultimately the North Node is saying you want to go to the Aquarius. You want to go forward out into the world and into a more future sense of yourself.
And it's almost kind of like “future is now” is the phrase I would share with you. Your future is now, and you're living in it, you know. And so this is what the North Node in Aquarius is going to be orienting you towards. And you will see a change in friendships and relationships and associations, and you might even feel a bit lost.
You might even feel like they have a clearer idea of where you need to go than you do. And that isn't a bad thing—it's a trust issue. You know, you have to sort of trust in that. But if you can sort of let someone else take over the wheel for a little while here, you may find that having a break from being behind the wheel of your own life is kind of a relief and a good thing, and that you're even learning things that are new.
So that when you come back behind the wheel again, maybe you're sharing that wheel with someone else. But you certainly are going to have a much more enlightened and refreshed perspective.
Virgo
Now, if you're born under Virgo or you have Virgo rising, this period of time when the North Node is traveling through Aquarius and the South Node is traveling through Leo, it's going to be a bit of a problematic period of time for you. Now, remember that the nodes spend one and a half years traveling through a pair of opposite signs.
So the North Node will be in Aquarius, and the South Node will be in Leo for a year and a half. So it's not the rest of your life or anything like that. But nevertheless, the North Node does show where you're going, and the South Node shows where you've been. So where are you going? Well, where are you going?
Let me go ahead and unpack it here for you, because it's very complex. Anytime we're dealing with zodiac signs that form a quincunx to our own sign is always going to be very complex. It's not going to be an easy thing to describe, meaning facile or simple to describe. It's something that you sort of have to unpack bit by bit.
And the reason for this is because Virgo and Aquarius don't have a Ptolemaic relationship in astrology. Ptolemaic refers to Claudius Ptolemy, and his name was spelled P-T-O-L-E-M-Y, I think, okay? And so Ptolemaic is the adjective of that. And the Ptolemaic aspects are:

The conjunction, where two planets are together in the same place at the same time, and so they're on the same page.

There's the opposition, where the two signs are completely polar opposites of one another—kind of like the Democrats and Republicans in the US government these days. There's no reaching across the aisle. It's completely polarized, literally and figuratively.

There's the square, which is combative and one-upmanship. You know, you have an idea of what's right, another sign has an idea of what's right, and you're sort of one-upping one another to dominate and enforce what you think is right.

There's the trine, which is where the two zodiac signs share the same element, and that's the, “Everything you do is great. I love you. I'm going to support you in this. You're wonderful. You're great. You have my unconditional love and support.” That's a trine.

And a sextile. A sextile is a relationship between zodiac signs that are different elements, but they're the same what we would call gender.
In astrology, we have four elements. Two of them are regarded as masculine, two of them were regarded as feminine. Another way you could describe it is yang and yin, okay? They can be different elements, like, for instance, fire and air are different elements, but they're both yang signs. So that's a sextile.
They both get one another. It's not unconditional support, but it's conversational and it's collaborative, and they're going to have their differences, but work with those differences to create something that's even better than what the two signs were coming to the table with at first.
So when we have a quincunx, the two zodiac signs don't really get one another. They have some things in common, but the signal isn't coming across. The signs aren't understanding each other clearly. It's kind of almost like garbled speech. Where the North Node is, is that it's traveling through the solar sixth house in astrology.
And that part, as a Virgo or a Virgo rising, you get, okay? The sixth house is the house of work and service. It's also the health and body, and these are things that Virgo understands. Virgo is the zodiac sign of work—working hard. It's an Earth sign, so it works, just like Taurus and Capricorn do.
It's a zodiac sign that very much identifies with service—helping people to help themselves. That's a sixth house attribute. And keeping oneself in good health and means is important for the sixth house, and it's going to be important for you as a Virgo. So that all makes sense. What doesn't make sense is all of this is going to happen in an Aquarian way, and not a Virgoan way, okay?
So Virgo is a zodiac sign of work and service, for instance. So it's like, “I choose to serve. I'm going to help you, but I'm going to help you to help yourself,” okay? “If I'm serving you, that's because I know the way that things should be done.” If you're Downton Abbey and you're a servant, you know that the plate goes here, the salad fork goes there, the soup spoon goes there, the other fork goes there, the knife goes there. You know… There's a place setting, okay? You know where things go.
And Virgos, in the way that they serve or solve problems, very much have a set formula for it, you know? “This is the way that I do it. This is the way I've always done it, and it really works,” okay? So your problem-solving is the way that you approach issues or challenges in your life.
But Aquarius has a different idea of that. Aquarius, because it's a more future-oriented sign, and it's a sign that's based on changing the old way that you used to do things, Aquarius is going to be like, “Well, what if we made some changes in your approach?” And as a Virgo, you might at first intellectually be like, “Oh, okay. What sort of changes would you recommend?”
And so maybe the Aquarius energy says like, “What if a problem isn't a problem?” you know, and as a Virgo, you might be like, “Huh?” And the Aquarian energy might go on and say, “What if a problem isn't a problem, but a way of getting you to think differently? It's more of a key.”
You know, as a Virgo, you might be like, “Okay, now I'm going to patiently indulge you while you go through this ridiculous conversation. Problems are meant to be solved. They're not like keys to opening our world or anything like that. They're meant to be solved,” you know, and that could be perhaps a Virgoan approach.
But with the North Node in Aquarius right now, it's asking you to change the way that you deal with problem-solving. It's asking you to change the way you deal with work, and it's asking you to change with the way that you approach or deal with the idea of service. What it's ultimately asking you to do is to try doing things other people's way rather than yours.
You're an Earth sign, and you're born under Mercury, and you know that you're smarter than most of the people who are around you. And you know that people are relying on you to get things done and to keep things running and on time. And being asked to do other people's way just on a whim? No. That doesn't make any sense to you at all. Not at all.
But this is what Aquarius is asking you to do. And this is immediately where it's going to trigger the South Node moving through Leo, which isn't forming a quincunx to you, but it's forming a semisextile to you. It's in the sign right next to you. And a sign right next to you kind of makes you Leo adjacent, okay? It brings up the Leo in you, but you're a Virgo, not a Leo, and so it's your idea of how a Leo would be.
Well, how would a Leo be? It's going to take things personally, okay? As a Virgo, you don't like to show that you take things personally. You like to be able to quote bureaucratic chapter and verse when you're faced with a challenge or someone questioning the way that you do things. But you've done things a certain way for a long time.
I mean, do you believe in improvement? Always. You can always improve what you're doing. But being asked to leave what you're doing altogether, you know, just to try it somebody else's way as an abstract request makes no sense. And moreover, because the South Node is in Leo, you're going to take this perhaps personally, you know—like your feelings are going to be hurt.
You may find yourself defending the way that you've done things, and really getting very upset as to what's being asked of you. And so it may go from sort of being a laughable matter to something that's frustrating and annoying, to something that might have hurt your feelings and make you question your worth, to something in which you might even be in open revolt.
And so the South Node talks about the things you need to leave behind, the patterns of behavior that haven't been working in the best interests of you, you know, in order to follow where the North Node is. Now, does the North Node in Aquarius say this is the answer for your entire life? No. The transiting North Node in Aquarius—it's there for a year and a half—simply says, “This is the answer for you now,” or for the next year and a half, rather.
What's going on here is that it's not about problem-solving anymore. The North Node in Aquarius is indeed saying it's looking at problems as posing creative questions, and that you need to explore that. If you're so focused on solving a problem, then a problem has to be something that has to be solved.
It's a trouble. It's a problem. It's creating an issue, and it needs to be solved. And so it's taking care of that problem, all right? But let's say the problem is symptomatic of things that need to be changed more foundationally. Let's say the problem is a sign not necessarily of the problem itself, but maybe the culture at the workplace, or a way of thinking, or a bias that's being shown up in some way.
You know, we might reach for the solution to the problem, but that would be like reaching for the next Band-Aid to throw on a cut when actually what you may have is something that's a little bit more complex—that it's an issue that needs to be addressed in a larger and a deeper way. And so this is where problem-solving falls short, you know. It's not about the solution.
And Virgoan thinking can be very much problem-solving if you've been in that vein for a long period of time, you know. It's kind of like you're playing ping-pong and maybe you play the same opponent, and you always hit back the ball the same way or whatever, and then suddenly your opponent tries a new move on you, and you're like, “Whoa, what happened?”
So this is what's happening here: like, you're being thrown a new move, and you're being shown how you can play this game differently—that it's not just call and response, problem and solve. That it's about looking at things more deeply, more in terms of the bigger picture, because Aquarius is always about the bigger picture, more perhaps systemically.
And instead of that being bewildering or overwhelming, you may find, if you let yourself get into that headspace, that this is actually really thrilling, you know? Because it's generating those more creative impulses of you. You know, problem-solving can be call and response, but what if the problem indicates a new way of going, a different way of looking at things?
This can become really thrilling and exhilarating for you as a Virgo. You know, of course, you're going to want to reach a solution to it, or at least a temporary fix along the way. But if you can see how this is leading on a longer journey and a more enriching one, then I think that you can find this time that the North Node is traveling through Aquarius perhaps perplexing and annoying at first, but in the long run, so deeply engaging and fulfilling of parts of yourself that you might not have given as much credence to before, but that you're definitely giving credence to now.
Libra
If you're born under Libra or you have Libra rising, this period of time that the North Node is moving through the zodiac sign of Aquarius and the South Node is moving through the zodiac sign of Leo, this is going to be a wonderful period of time for you. Now, the reason for this is because Aquarius, which is where the North Node is right now, is an air sign, just like Libra is an air sign.
And so basically, you guys get one another. You understand where Aquarius is coming from, and Aquarius definitely understands where Libra's coming from. And that describes what we call in astrology a trine relationship. A trine relationship is a harmonious, supportive relationship that exists between two totally different zodiac signs, but they share the same element.
So there's a built-in simpatico. There is unconditional support. You enjoy one another. You learn from one another. One sign expands on the other sign's point of view, and you're always in that zodiac sign's corner. So what the North Node in Aquarius is asking you to do during this period of time is basically to open your heart.
It's traveling through that part of your solar chart that's associated with delights. It's associated with arts and entertainment. It's associated with love and romance and children—the things that give you joy and pleasure in life. And what it's showing you is basically you need to move over to this area of your life, and bring that more into balance with the other area of your life, okay?
We'll get to the other area of your life in a quick moment. So what I'm saying here is that as a Libra—which is a zodiac sign that's very much associated with relationships to begin with—as a Libra, somewhere along the line the idea of relationship, or association, or friendship has lost its joy in a way. I'm not saying that it's miserable, but you've outgrown it in a way.
And so when that happens, when we realize that we've outgrown an acquaintance, or a friendship, or a family relationship, or an association, or a romantic partner, oftentimes our answer to ourselves is like, “Oh, I guess we have to break up now,” you know? Or, “Oh, I guess I have to like leave this person now, and go on to something else.”
And that's not what's being asked to do. That's not what's required here. You know, we're not being told that you have to like leave where you are. What the North Node in Aquarius is getting you to do is to think of relationships in a new way. When you're born under Libra or you have Libra rising, there's a lot of curating that goes into a relationship. And that, again, is because Libra is the zodiac sign of relationship.
Libras see it as their responsibility to nurture and take care of the relationship. You know how when we talk about Cancers, that's the zodiac sign of hearth and home? Cancers see it as their responsibility to take care of the home, to tend to the home fires. Well, that idea in Libra terms is it's your idea to take care of the relationship, to make sure that the relationship is functioning.
And the way that Libra looks at a relationship is in three parts: there's me, there's you, and there's the relationship itself. Another way to describe it is to think of the symbol of Libra itself. You know, there is the pole that the two dishes hang from that causes the balance, it causes the scale.
So you're in one dish, the partner's in the other dish, and the contraption or the scale that holds the two dishes is the relationship itself. And as a Libra, you will take it upon yourself to make that relationship work. Now, that doesn't mean that you're long-suffering and doing everything for the relationship. No, not at all.
Librans are diplomatic by nature, and so that sense of fairness is really important, as are rules and laws. So everyone gives according to their means as far as a Libra is concerned. So when you're dealing with a relationship, if there are certain bonuses or rewards that come to you in the relationship, those bonuses and rewards are to be shared by the partner as well.
You know, you wouldn't keep them to yourself—you would share them with the partner, because that benefits the relationship itself. But let me say there are certain sacrifices you have to make to make a relationship work. You'll make them, but as a Libra or Libra rising, you're automatically going to expect that your partner make them, too.
You know, that you're not the only one who sacrifices here—your partner sacrifices as well. And not all the time are the partners into sacrificing like that, or they're kind of like, “Why do I have to give up meat for Lent or something like that, you know? If you want to do that and eat fish on Fridays, you do that. But, you know, I'm going to enjoy my hamburger.”
And so, as a Libra, you will work in subtle ways to get your partner to see that this is what you do to make a relationship work, all right? And sometimes when you're involved in a long-term relationship, it can become more about the relationship and less about the partner, okay? In other words, it can become more about what you do to keep the relationship going and what the expectations are from the partner to respond in kind. But then you might lose track of your partner, or the friendship with your partner, or the delight with your partner.
This same thing can assign itself to other areas of your life. You know, you may have certain responsibilities and obligations and duties that you have in your life, and you do them. You know, this is what's expected, and you do them, and that's what makes your life work. But there can also come a point in which those responsibilities, those obligations, or those duties take you away from the things that make you feel fun, or give you pleasure, or that make you feel like you enjoy your life.
And again, you may feel like, “Oh, I guess I have to break up with the way that I was doing things,” or walk out on it, or something along those lines. And it's like, no. What you simply need to do is rebalance it. You know, there may be too many things in the dish that is titled “obligation and responsibility,” and not enough things in the dish that is entitled “joy and pleasure,” okay?
And you need to balance that out, and this is what the North Node in Aquarius is asking you to do. And that's something that you're going to be responding to. But what it's also asking you to do is to revolutionize the way that you deal with people in your life. You know, I'm not saying that you have to try on a new way of relating to people. You know, in the '70s it would be like, “I'm going to psychoanalyze you,” or something—I'm not asking you to do that.
What it is, is to really look for how your relationship has changed and how the people who are involved in your life—loved ones, friends, acquaintances, spouse, lovers—how they've changed, and to acknowledge that, and to listen to them again, to hear them again, and to express yourself according to who you are right now again, rather than a role that you've taken on.
Now, the South Node is in the zodiac sign of Leo, and it is in that part of your solar chart that deals with hopes and wishes and friends in high places, which always sounds like a bit of a miscellany, as they used to say back in the 16th century. But it's not as miscellaneous as all that. What it comes from is the idea that in order to attain or fulfill your hopes and wishes, it's a good idea to have friends in high places.
You know, that means people who can introduce you to people who will record your song, or publish your book, or buy your wares, you know. So it's this idea that if you have friends in high places, then you're going to fulfill your hopes and wishes. What may be going on right now is that you've become very identified with how you present to certain people in your life.
These may be people of influence, or these may be people who have levied on you certain expectations, or these may be people that you're hoping to impress. And you might have altered your behavior in such a way as to be like them, you know? And what might be happening with the fifth house is that you might all of a sudden feel like you're going in a direction that's not going to be like them anymore.
You know, that there might be a love interest who's not at all like the people you've been hanging out with, or if you've been in high finance, now you're dying to write poetry and live as a poet, you know, that sort of a thing, where you're leaving a situation where people knew you really well, and you're moving into something that is opposite it.
You know, the fifth house is opposite the 11th house. But what's nice here is that Leo sextiles Libra, so you understand Leo. It's a fire sign. Fire forms a sextile to Libra, which is an air sign. And so what it means is that should you be asked to leave or change a status, or maybe take time off from work, or somewhere where you have a vested interest, it's not going to be punished, it's not going to be scorned, it's not going to be treated as a negative.
In fact, if you ask for time away, you're going to get permission. It's going to be allowed. You know, maybe it's a good idea for you to go on sabbatical, or maybe it's a good idea for you to spend some time away, or in a different place in this company, or in a different place in your life.
And so Libras can sometimes get very anxious about what other people are going to think about them, which is kind of reinforced with having Leo in the 11th house of your solar horoscope. But that might be something that you're putting on them and that they're not really putting on you. So again, the North Node in Aquarius is asking you to revisit that notion, to bring up the ask, to bring up the idea, to get the permission to try something new, to try something different, to give yourself permission to try something new and different in your relationships and your associations.
And I think that once you do that, then you'll really feel that North Node in Aquarius taking over. It will be, “Okay, let's go and live life like this. Let's go and pursue these interests, these curiosities, these impulses that we've had, and let's celebrate it, and let me see what this is like.”
So basically, the North Node in Aquarius is asking you to try an Aquarian way of living, which can be more inventive, innovative, unexpected, different. You know, it's asking you to try that way of living for a year and a half. That's it, and to see what it's like. It's almost like going and being a transfer student, and going and studying in another country.
Just try it on, see what it's like, and see where you are on the other side of that. And I think if you can adopt that type of thinking, that you will find that the things that are important to you, like the relationships and people in your life, and that the things that you enjoy doing in your life, they can come together and they can mix and match in a way that isn't something that you're familiar with, which isn't something that you would do typically, but is actually much more enjoyable and much more revelatory.
And who knows, you know? Coming back from a year abroad in Italy, coming back with an Italian accent can make you incredibly sexy.
Scorpio
If you're born under Scorpio or you have Scorpio rising, this period of time that the North Node is moving through Aquarius and the South Node is moving through Leo is going to be challenging for you. And the word I do want to use is “challenging.” Now, I don't want you to hear bad, or unfortunate, or catastrophic, or anything along those lines—I want you to hear the word “challenging.”
And the reason it's going to be challenging is because you as a Scorpio, being a fixed sign, your sign forms a natural square to Aquarius. It forms a natural square to Leo. Leo has a very different way of approaching life than Scorpio does, and Aquarius has a very different way of approaching life than Scorpio does.
And so this creates a clash. This creates a conflict, all right? And so that's why I'm saying it's going to be challenging. It also puts you at the bendings. The bendings is astrology's term for you squaring the nodes in the sky, okay? Usually it's like your Sun is at the bendings, or your Mercury is at the bendings, or your Saturn is at the bendings.
It's at a place where it squares the nodes in your chart, okay? And when you're at the bendings, what it is is that you're being asked—you're being pulled in two different directions, but it's more a crossroads than it is being torn asunder. You have to choose: do you go left or you go right, you know?
There's a phrase that when you come to a fork in the road, take it, you know? And I love that idea because it's like, when you come to a fork in the road, take it. It's like you go for it. You move forward, you know. You don't choose one or the other—you take it. You take that ground. And that's kind of what being at the bendings can be.
You know, it might feel like you have to choose one over the other, or you might feel like you're dealing with a composite of the two energies. So let's go ahead and break it down here a little bit for you. We know from earlier in the forecast that the South Node is what you are leaving behind. In past-life astrology, it will refer to your past life, your previous incarnations.
And if you've got past lives, you don't want to bring them into your current life, okay? But that doesn't mean that you have a complete free license in your current life. Your current life might be colored by past-life issues, or challenges, or anxieties, or something along those lines. And so they inform you not necessarily in a memory way, but in a history way—a psychic history way—of what your life right now is going to be about.
And so the South Node is basically: you don't want to repeat the past. You don't want to carry that past baggage forward. You don't want past patterns to limit or constrain you. What's going on right now with the South Node passing through Leo, which is at the top of your solar horoscope, is that this has a lot to do with parent, okay? The idea of a parent.
You may be dealing with a parent right now. You may be dealing with someone who's in a position of authority, or what you're dealing with is becoming a parent or becoming a person of authority in your life right now. Sometimes when we're asked to step into a position of authority, we kind of imagine our parent doing it.
You know, we can't help but have patterned ourselves off of a parent, whether we liked the parent or not, or whether we saw the parent as being an authority or not. You know, maybe you had a parent who was very dissembling, or couldn't make up their mind, or they practiced authority by being kind of like confused and letting someone else make the decision for them, okay.
That could have been seen as a way of being an authority. That might be something that you feel yourself doing suddenly in your life right now. You might be like, “Why am I all of a sudden unsure, questioning myself, or getting passive-aggressive or asking someone else to make the decision? What's going on here?” you know.
And that might be because that was patterned off of a parent. Or let's say you had a parent who was very domineering and had a strict way of doing things, and “this is how it's going to be done.” Now that you're being asked to take over an authority position, you might find yourself being domineering and severe in a strict way of doing things, and you might be wondering, “Where the hell is that coming from? Like, I didn't use to be like that,” you know.
So whatever you might associate with taking charge or being in authority is coming from the past. And because Leo is a parental sign—more especially the zodiac sign of the father—it may be based on the way that the father approached issues like this. And so where you're kind of, in a way, becoming your father, okay, the idea is you want to be yourself, okay?
You don't want to be cosplay authority or play-acting dad. You want to be who you are. And you're being asked at this period of time to examine the way that you control, the way that you give direction, the way that you exercise authority. Now, that might be exercising authority over a new puppy, okay?
And, you know, are you shouting at it, or giving it… feeding it full of treats, you know? I mean, what are you doing to discipline and nurture and grow and train this puppy, you know? Or it might be the way that you are an authority on the PTA, or an authority in the home, or an authority at work, or political office.
You know, how are you exercising? How are you expressing your authority? And what the South Node in Leo is getting you to ask is, is this stuff that you've brought from the past? Now, one could say, is this stuff that you brought from a past life, you know? But we can also see it as, is this stuff you brought from the past?
Are you modeling yourself off of a parent, or a teacher, or someone who—you know, maybe you didn't like the way that they expressed authority, but they expressed it and got things done, and so that's what you're going to do? And so what the North Node in Aquarius is asking you to do is take another look at that.
You know, is that really the way that you want to exercise authority? Is that really the way that you want to lead? Is that really the way that you want to give direction, you know? Are you going to see yourself as Leo the King, you know, that you just pass down edicts, you know, and everyone obeys? Or there's the expectation that they'll obey, or the fear that they won't, you know?
Or do you want to work with people in your life, you know? And this idea of working with people is very Aquarian. It's not really Scorpio, okay? Scorpio, you know, enjoys people, doesn't always trust them, kind of keeps them at a distance, but feels their pain, and also can be outraged on their behalf.
But the idea of working with people, that the intimacy of Scorpio emotions, that the intensity of Scorpio emotions, that that has to be patrolled. That that needs to be policed. That that needs to be kept in hand. You know, you're not allowed to lose it if you're in control. That you have to be more diplomatic, or tactful, or listening to what someone else has to say—things that are very Aquarian.
You know, Aquarius can be a very cerebral and aloof sign. It doesn't believe in losing its temper or having a meltdown, and if it does that, then something's up and something's wrong. I mean, that's usually when an Aquarius is like, “I just had a major meltdown, so I have to go figure out what that is,” because that's not like what Aquarians do, okay.
But Scorpios don't necessarily respond cerebrally, or coolly, or in a scientific method to an emotional situation. They feel the heat of the pain or the outrage, and they want to champion, defend, fight for it, you know, that sort of a thing. And with this North Node now going through Aquarius, it's asking you to be more sober in your approach to things, more even-tempered, more calm, and more listening to the different sides of the argument or the different points of view.
And it's even, because this is Aquarius, asking you to suspend your own emotional reaction, to review your judgments, and to ask yourself, are you being biased in the way that you're judging a situation? And are you really working for the good of the group? Are you really working for the good of everyone involved in this situation?
Are you listening to all the different points of view? That might leave some of you Scorpios or Scorpio risings at home going, “What? Like, no.” But, and the North Node will be in Aquarius for a year and a half, that's exactly what the North Node is asking you to do. As you might imagine, you could relate more to the Leo part of this equation, you know, of taking things personally, and personal authority, and “this is the way it's going to be done.”
And you might have a little bit more difficulty with the Mr. Spock or the Vulcan side of the equation. You know, you can almost think of Leo as being Captain Kirk and Aquarius as being Mr. Spock, all right? And so you find yourself like, “Hmm,” you know. But nevertheless, the North Node in Aquarius is asking you to take this on, to give this a try.
It's asking you to take your human resources seriously, to take the people in your life seriously—not as children who need to be told what to do, but as thinking, breathing, feeling people in your life who have equal say as you do. Another way that this North Node might manifest or show up in your life is in your family.
Let's say a loved one is going out with someone from a different culture, a different religion, or a different economic status, or a different country. You know, they want to move away. You know, you might feel yourself like, “Why, and how, and no?” you know. And so this would be the Aquarian energy sort of opening your world, but in a more family space, a more comfortable hearth space, and asking you to take into account someone coming from a very different background, or a very different set of beliefs, or a very different culture than yours.
You know, the idea of this person being under your roof, you know, which is not where you're supposed to be like that. You know, you're like that if you're in a public situation, or a job, or vacation. You're not supposed to be entertaining the United Nations in your own home, type of thing. But the North Node in Aquarius would be asking you to do that.
And so bringing sort of objectivity to your intimate emotional life, bringing a sense of seeing things from different points of view to a familial situation where everyone's supposed to be familiar with one another, but now they're not acting in the way that they used to act, and recognizing that and respecting that.
So there's a lot of eye-opening experiences in store for you. But what I can guarantee you at the end of this year and a half is that you'll have a very different idea of what it's like to be an authority. You'll have a very different idea of what it's like to be a parent. But it's not different as in foreign or strange—it's different as in not what you would typically have done.
But nevertheless, it will still be a true, if not truer, expression of you.
Sagittarius
If you're born under Sagittarius or you have Sagittarius rising, this period of time that the North Node is traveling through the zodiac sign of Aquarius and the South Node is traveling through the zodiac sign of Leo, is going to be a good period of time for you. It's going to be good for you as in beneficial, and good for you as in good for you.
Not necessarily character-building, but it's going to be teaching you lessons that you should be learning right now at this time in your life. Now, not to sound too pontificating, but the idea is this: the North Node teaches us lessons. It shows where we're going. Let's go back to what I was describing earlier in the forecast with the Isabel Hickey example.
The North Node are the lessons you need to learn in order to go and live a more fulfilling life, and the South Node was connected to the idea of a past life or a previous incarnation. It's kind of the baggage—the emotional or psychic baggage that you bring into your present life—that you need to sort of leave behind, and move forward to, and this is what the South Node is bringing up.
Now, what's nice about the South Node traveling through the zodiac sign of Leo is that Leo is a fire sign, just like Sagittarius is a fire sign. So these two signs get each other, okay, because you share the same element. The signs may be different—Leo's a summer sign and Sagittarius is an autumnal one—but they share the same element, which is the element of fire.
So this talks about exuberance, enthusiasm, things being bigger than life, all right? And so as a Sagittarius or a Sagittarius rising, you're excited about those adventures that are bigger than life, or meeting people with big names, or people whose personalities are larger than life. You know, these are the things that excite you.
These are the things that make you very enthusiastic. Or maybe you have experiences in your life where you actually meet these people, where it can be like, “I can't believe that I met Taylor Swift,” or, “I can't believe that I've met Timothée Chalamet.” You know, so Sagittarians love a big name. They love a big personality, and they kind of love moving in those circles.
You know, it's not beyond a Sagittarius or a Sagittarius rising to drop a name to get everyone's attention, because what good are names for if you don't drop them? You know, so this is something that you really enjoy.
So that Leo energy in your ninth house, which is where it appears on your solar horoscope, talks about big personalities, big adventures, and larger-than-life experiences. But that's where the South Node is, okay? So what the South Node is saying is like, you need to sort of walk away from this and come on over here to the North Node.
So what the South Node is basically saying is, you need to leave these big adventures, these big names, these big ideas alone for a little bit. Not for the rest of your life, just a year and a half, 'cause that's how long the South Node will be in Leo, and that's how long the North Node will be in Aquarius.
And what the North Node is saying is that it's time for you to leave these adventures that lead you beyond the blue horizon and find things in your day-to-day life that do that. Now, your first reaction as a Sagittarius or a Sagittarius rising might be like, “Boring,” you know? Like, “I need to go in pursuit of a new adventure,” you know.
“Anywhere but here,” is my motto, you know. “I need to go and be experiencing these wonderful things. And now I'm being asked by the North Node to go and sort of reacquaint myself with the things in my day-to-day life. Tedious. Boring. How long does this last again? A year and a half?” Well, it's a little bit like Dorothy at the end of the film of The Wizard of Oz, where she wakes up in her bed to discover her family around her, and she vows sort of at the end of the film, “The next time I go searching for my heart's desire, I won't go looking any further than my own backyard.”
You know, which sounds a little bit like Dorothy has learned a lesson, you know. She goes to Oz, she's transported there by a cyclone. She goes on these adventures and meets these wonderful friends. But all the time she's homesick. She wants to go back home. She doesn't want to be here in this faraway land.
And it's great that there's magic and talking lions and things like that, but she wants to really go back home, and that's what's going to make her feel very happy. And so that's where she winds up at the end of the film. She begins the film singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” dreaming of a faraway place, and she comes back home.
But it's not a cautionary tale. It's not like, “See, Dorothy, you should never sing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow.' You should embrace your black-and-white existence,” you know. It's not that. What it is, is that she was devaluing the magic and the wonder of her day-to-day life. She was assuming that anything that was going to be spiritually moving or psychically enthralling had to be somewhere else—it couldn't possibly be in her day-to-day life.
It's like when people kind of get caught up in these big discussions of like, you know, how the world should be fixed, or what are the ills of the world, and if they were in charge, they would do this. Or what they might be feeling nowadays was more like, “I live in an out-of-control world,” and, “Why can't people see that this is being threatened and this is being undermined, and we have to do something about it?”
And we all can get into discussions like that, and those discussions can become very exhausting. You know, you can be carried away in the heights of the forces that are at play in our world nowadays. And we can feel like these larger-than-life forces are bigger than us, and that we can't stand up to them, or we're not going to be heard, or maybe we're insignificant, you know?
It's like, how can I worry about the things in my life when people are facing this, and that, and the other thing, or everything's going AI, and whatever. And so to sort of take a step away from the larger-than-life forces… Take a step away from what might feel like catastrophic or dystopian, or something along those lines, or civilization on the brink, and to get back in touch with your day-to-day life is a beautiful thing.
Now, I'm not saying that the North Node in Aquarius is encouraging you to adopt the ostrich policy—that is, burying your head in the sand while your big fat tail shows above everyone. What I'm saying is that the North Node in Aquarius is showing you that you do make a difference in other people's lives.
You are an important individual. You are an important voice. The fire signs—which are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius—these are the signs of individuality. These are the signs of “each person is unique,” and these are the signs that believe that they make a personal difference in other people's lives. The North Node in Aquarius, which sextiles your own zodiac sign, says you can go and scream at the cyclone, you know, that's twisting through everyone's lives and turning things upside down and inside out.
Or you can connect to the life that you're living and recognizing how you make a difference in other people's lives, but also how other people make a difference in yours. There are many times in which we can discover something very unfamiliar in the familiar, or someone we know impresses us in a different way, you know?
Or we look at an old friend, and we might hear something that they've been saying for a long time—we might hear it for the first time. And our friend might even laugh and say, “I've been saying this for years.” And you might say, “My God, that's the first time I've heard you.” These are the revelations.
These are the experiences that the North Node in Aquarius can bring. You don't have to leave where you are. You don't have to out-shout the forces that are larger than life that are taking place. You can focus on your life. That doesn't mean that you're ignoring everything—it means that you're living your life.
You know, nowadays with social media and things like this, our lives can be hijacked by centrifugal forces, you know, that take us down rabbit holes or too far off extremes, and we lose the centeredness of our life. We lose the appreciation for waking up that day, for the people that we share our lives with, for the strangers we might meet from out of nowhere, or for the way that people change our lives, or we change other people's lives.
This is what the North Node in Aquarius is asking you to do for the next year and a half: to spend time here, to sort of get to know the people that you might have taken for granted, and really sort of enjoy the magic and the enchantment that they have to bring.
Capricorn
If you're born under Capricorn or you have Capricorn rising, this period of time that the North Node is moving through the zodiac sign of Aquarius is going to be a little problematic for you. Now, I don't mean problematic as in, “Oh, there's a problem, and I have to take care of it. Ugh, story of my life. Not another problem.” I don't mean it like that.
It's problematic in terms of you getting to know an energy that you feel like you should know, but you don't really. It's not fitting in your life the way that you are used to things fitting. That doesn't mean it doesn't belong. That doesn't mean that it's disqualifying all the things that you've believed in or that have come before.
It means that it's not fitting. And when something doesn't fit like that, we can have a tendency to reject it outright, to get rid of it, you know. But also, sometimes when something doesn't fit so neatly like that, it piques our interest. It becomes intriguing. It gets us to wonder, what if? The reason why I'm saying this is because the North Node in Aquarius—and remember, the North Node is where you're going—is appearing in your second house on your solar chart.
Now, the second house is the house of finances, okay. And being a Capricorn or a Capricorn rising, you're like, “Okay. Well, I know that story. I know the story of finances and how they torment me, or how I've worked with them, or how I've maybe finally worked them out in my life, or how they keep eluding or bedeviling me. You know, I know about finances.”
But the North Node in Aquarius is actually saying, maybe it's time to leave behind what you've told yourself about finances. And that is a reference to the South Node moving through the zodiac sign of Leo, which is the sign that's most associated to your eighth house, which is other people's finances.
Now, the second house is mine, okay? And then the eighth house is theirs or the other person's. When you have a South Node moving through the eighth house, it's going to affect your psychic and your psychological relationship to money. As a Capricorn—and Capricorn is a winter sign here in the Northern Hemisphere, and the reason I say that is because astrology was created here in the Northern Hemisphere, and the signs are very much connected to seasons as where they're experienced in the Northern Hemisphere—as a Capricorn, you can have a scarcity outlook when it comes to finances.
You're a winter baby. Even if you were born in sunny Southern California, there's still that sense of “winter is coming,” you know? That things could be scarce, that you're going to enter into a period of trials and tribulations, and that the complacency of satisfaction is going to be overturned with old anxieties and insecurities and fears and phobias, you know, running through like an army of winter soldiers or something like this.
And so this might be something that you're feeling sort of bubbling up with the South Node moving through Leo right now. You might be responding to certain things that are triggering money panic or money anxiety in your life, and you might not like that idea at all, and you might be trying to like calm yourself down, or speak rationally to yourself, or something like that.
But it actually might even be increasing, and you're starting to get a little bit more panicky than that. What the North Node is asking you to do—and it's not, as I said, an easy fit—it semi-sextiles your zodiac sign, so it's kind of adjacent. It's next to. So what you're getting here is Aquarius adjacent.
You know, you can understand the Aquarian mindset to an extent. You're Saturn-ruled just like Aquarius is, but you're not Aquarian, all right? So you believe that things can be explained and worked out, but you don't believe in an abstract model that can be applied to a situation. You're not objective like an Aquarius can be.
You're not impartial like an Aquarius can be. That's very much an air sign way of being. It's kind of like Mr. Spock in old-school Star Trek, you know. He's always logical and always seeing things dispassionately, while everyone else is getting all worked up.
In effect, what's going on in your chart right now is that there are things that are getting you all worked up, you know, about your financial stability or health or something. But then when you look at your situation right now, it's not that at all. You know, it's probably stable, if not improving.
So where's all of that coming from? Well, it's coming from the past. And as Isabel Hickey might argue, as I shared with you earlier in the forecast, maybe it's coming from a past life or a past incarnation. But it's certainly coming from the past, like maybe your own upbringing, your own childhood, your relationship to finances, or things that have happened before that have made you feel like finances can suddenly become scarce or troublesome.
What the North Node in Aquarius is getting you to do is to debunk that mythology. It's to, in essence, what would be called nowadays, “get over it.” But it's not like “get over it,” but it's like, let's sit down and calmly examine your relationship to money, and how your relationship to money right now may be more emotional or maybe even panic-driven than it is rational or even logical.
And so where you might not see yourself as being Saturnine in that way, you actually do have that capacity to see things that way. And another thing that's going to help you to see things that way is the idea of Aquarius being there for other people as well as yourself—that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
When you isolate with a money panic attack, you don't see how money is kind of like the blood system of a society. It needs to circulate through society, you know. And you might see yourself more on a clotting end, or something like that, or a blocked artery. But you aren't. Indeed, the more that you work with others for the betterment of others, and others work for the betterment of you, the more that you coordinate and work with others, the more that you see finances in your life as an ecosystem that other people's finances are attached to, and that your finances are attached to, then you're kind of like this thriving tropical rainforest.
There's an ecosystem. There's a way that nature takes care of all of these things. There's a meaning to it. There's a holism to it. Now, that might sound a little SpongeBob yoga pants for you, or something along those lines, but I think the idea of an ecosystem is a really good image to share with you.
And this idea that also the idea that “a tide lifts all boats,” that you work for the betterment of others, and you're included in others working for the betterment of you, and that brings a better world here. And that might be something that's also getting your interest nowadays, which is how you can contribute, or maybe even give back to the community that you live in.
What I can say is that this is a little bit more than regarding money dispassionately or in a more logical headspace, and it's more like seeing money as an ecosystem—as something that circulates through the lives of you and the people around you. And that when you see it like that, and that you're working for that—you know, you want good circulation, you want good distribution—this is creating a healthier society.
Now, is it creating a healthier society on the world stage? Not yet, and maybe not for a while. But it might create a healthier society in your neighborhood. It might create a healthier society in your family. It might create a better culture at work, you know. It opens you up to the idea of plenty, rather than to the bias of scarcity.
And I think that if you were to embrace this, money will stop becoming a panic button in your life and more something that you live in and live with, and that you actually are in a position to change for the betterment of yourself and the people around you.
Aquarius
If you're born under Aquarius or you have Aquarius rising, this period of time that the North Node is moving through your zodiac sign, which will be for the next year and a half, is going to be a wonderful period of time for you. I want to call your attention to what I was talking about earlier in the forecast when I was talking about Aquarius' timing problem, okay?
Aquarians swing like a pendulum, as I described before, between the future and the past. There's a part of you that's very much drawn to the future, the way that things could be, and that you want to get away from a past that can be inhibiting and constrictive. But if you get too far out there, then you swing back in the direction of the past where you find or rediscover evergreen truths—that the things that have come before aren't disposable. They're not garbage. That there's real value in them. That there's a sense of security and foundation.
And this can become a wonderful thing for you. But then if you become too rigid, if you become too stuck in that, that restlessness comes through, the pendulum is released, and you go swinging back towards the future again and upset everything that had come before.
So this is why Aquarians can sort of experience life as a little bit like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, careening from past to future, and future to the past again. What it really gets down to, and something that I really want to underscore talking about the North Node traveling through your zodiac sign, is this Aquarian sense of timing.
Do you remember when I was saying that there's either this feeling of being avant-garde, of being ahead of your time, or this feeling that “my time has come”?
Okay, this is the Aquarian paradox with time and timing. If you're too avant-garde, if you're too ahead of your time, that means that your ideas, no matter how brilliant and game-changing they can be, make no sense to the people that you're trying to describe them to. You know, think of, I don't know, a time traveler suddenly traveling back to 1776, you know.
And there you are with all these colonials who are fighting against Britain, and you're kind of like, “Wow, I really wish I could get this on my cell phone.” And they're like, “Huh? What's a… what?” And you're like, “A cell phone. You know, a cell phone.” They have no idea what you're talking about. And it doesn't matter how you try to describe a cell phone, how it works, social media, algorithms, and things like that.
It's going over their head, and they need to get back to fighting the battle of the War for Independence, and they're not going to talk to you. So that can be a feeling that sometimes Aquarians have: that they're too ahead of their time, that they're describing concepts or ideas that people just don't get, and they're not going to get.
And so there can be something very challenging and even something very sad about being too ahead of your time, because people aren't getting it, and it can be very frustrating, and they'll only get it after 20 years have passed or something along those lines.
But all of this changes when you're in a “my time has come” mode. When you're in a “my time has come” mode, suddenly those things that you were describing that went right by people and they found bewildering, all of a sudden it clicks. It's timely, or the technical resources are there, or this is the direction that society is going in.
Suddenly, those ideas click, and people are very inspired by it. They're very excited. They want to join what it is that you are trying to share with them. They want to learn more about it, and maybe even contribute to it in their own way with their own thoughts and ideas and insights. Needless to say, this period of time, which is the next year and a half that the North Node is traveling through the zodiac sign of Aquarius, your time has come.
Everyone gets what it is that you're talking about. Everyone wants to sign on for the cause that you believe in. Everyone wants to follow your recommendations. You know, they're amazed by how much you get it. And they're thrilled, and they're enthralled by what you have to say.
So this is clearly a period of time when you want to be putting to work those ideas that you have, when you want to be articulating them, selling them, sharing them, using them to teach, direct—things along those lines. ‘Cause everyone's going to hear you, everyone's going to recognize you, and everyone's going to get it.
And what you're also going to want to do during this period of time is be open to their suggestions. You would be open to them anyway—you're an Aquarius, you're always open to other people's input. But be open to it, because they have a lot to offer. Now, in the medieval period of astrology—which was the period that talked a lot about the dragon's head and the dragon's tail, you know, Caput Draconis and Cauda Draconis—during that period of time, there was this feeling that the head of the dragon was seen as benefic, okay? And that the energies around the head of the dragon were of the energies of Jupiter and Venus, which are the two benefics in astrology.
And so this would speak to the charisma that you may be exuding right now, and the benevolence that people see coming from you, and the good feeling, the goodwill, but also the beauty. You know, you may be especially beautiful right now, or the ideas you are describing are beautiful, and they're capturing people's imaginations, and they're filling them full of all sorts of inspiration, which is coming from you.
People are hanging on your every word or your every action. Well, the tail of the dragon—if the head was associated with the benefics, Venus and Jupiter, then the tail was associated with the malefics, which are Mars and Saturn, all right? So that was “get away from” energy, and you didn't want that negative energy in your life—something that gets touched upon later with Isabel Hickey, but that she kind of repurposes or repackages in a different way.
What might be happening during this period of time, which is the next year and a half, is that people in your life, through relationships, acquaintances, friendships, or professional associations, may be bringing the Saturn and the Mars energy into your life, okay? That might mean that they're problematic, or that might mean that they're facing problems in their lives, but in essence, they might be bringing the Saturn and the Mars.
Now, because the North Node is going through Aquarius, you're going to be very interested in working with that Saturn and Mars energy. You're not going to recoil from it, and you're not going to want to banish it or say it's somebody else's problem, not mine. If anything, you may be very drawn to that.
You know, the purpose that you're experiencing in your life right now might be very much drawn to helping people get back on their feet, helping people stand up to a challenge, equipping them with resources, talents, or abilities that they can take on challenges or that they can face obstacles. You may be very committed to helping people to help themselves.
And these might be people who are psychologically damaged, or these might be people who have felt oppressed by authority, or these might be people in positions of power and authority who are doing the oppressing. But what's happening here is that your Aquarian message is open to everyone.
You basically want to help everyone become the best that they can be, because according to the Aquarian ethos, a society is only as good as the people in it. So that goes to the person who's doing the oppressing and the person who's being oppressed. So this isn't about taking sides.
This is about actually erasing the lines between the sides and seeing where the common ground is and the common humanity is. And by exhibiting that common humanity, by expressing that common humanity, by valuing it, you're taking away the vilifying. You're taking away the stern judgment. You're taking away the condemnation of people who aren't acting right.
And you're more like, “Okay, what is it they're expressing that needs to be heard? What is it that they're expressing that needs to be brought to the light? Not corrected or changed, but it needs to be heard. What is it telling us about us?” okay? And this is something that's going to be a big component of your life for the next year and a half.
Now, there are times when people who were once inspired by you, or felt like you were on track, may be looking at you askance, like, “How can you embrace someone who's been so dreadful?” or, “How can you embrace someone who's been such a villain?” you know. But what you're trying to demonstrate and show is that they're still a human being.
That when you bring out the human being part of that person, that things change. That things that were blocked or problematic or difficult open up, and that happens through understanding and compassion. So you yourself at times might not feel like you're always up to that challenge, but there's something about the work that you're doing, or the path that you're following, or the pursuit that you're pursuing in the next year and a half that's going to take you into this territory, and it's actually going to expand the horizons of your world.
It's actually going to show you that the world has so much to teach you, but not in a negative and a bad way, or even in a correcting way, but more in an illuminated way. And this is how the North Node passing through your zodiac sign can become both illuminating and inspiring.
Pisces
If you're born under Pisces or you have Pisces rising, this period of time that the North Node is passing through Aquarius and the South Node is passing through the zodiac sign of Leo is going to be, hmm, an interesting time for you. Now, the reason why I use the word “interesting” is that it's not really easy choosing a word to describe what this is going to be like.
It's not going to be challenging—a feeling that you're being confronted by someone who doesn't appreciate where you're coming from, or you think that they're totally wrong, or acting inappropriately. It's not going to be challenging in that regard, and it's not going to be conducive. You really don't quite agree with the energy that's coming into your life right now.
You don't really get it, to be honest. But there's something about it that still speaks to you, and this is based on the fact that Aquarius is a zodiac sign that sits right next to you on the zodiacal wheel. And the relationship that it forms to Pisces is what's called a semi-sextile. In other words, you know the Aquarius is there, and it's right next to you, it's in close proximity, but you don't really see it. You don't really recognize it. You don't really understand it.
So let me give a little background on this to hopefully illuminate what it is that I'm trying to describe to you. Aquarius, for a very long time, was described as being a sort of laid-back sign—you know, a sign that was sort of laid-back and cool and kind of a hippie. And that's because there was a song that was very popular in the '60s that was called “The Age of Aquarius,” and it was the anthem of the musical Hair.
And it talked about the anti-war movement and hippies, and getting high and dropping out, but yet protesting and resisting big government, which was killing its people by sending them off to Vietnam, and it was killing the Vietnamese as well in a completely mistaken and wrongheaded war.
But through all of this, somehow people got the idea that Aquarians were goofy, or eccentric, or laid-back, and hippie, and all this stuff. And honestly, if you know any Aquarians in your life, nothing could be further from the truth. They're very rarely laid-back, okay? Because it's an air sign, so it's very cerebral.
And so Aquarians can experience a lot of nervous or anxiety energy, so they can speak quicker or more staccato-like, or they're more restless in the way that they're processing information. It can be very hard for them to relax without having to do a complete turning off the computer—where the computer just goes down, you know? It's like, off.
That's kind of like Aquarians: are either totally on all the time, or when they're off, they're like… when they're offline, they're totally offline. Powering down is what I was talking about before, the word I was trying to use. Aquarians, as I said, aren't laid-back and relaxed. That's a little bit more like what Pisces is.
And Aquarians can actually be very hierarchical and very structured. They believe that there are different levels of performance; that if you're in a group situation, there should be a leader of the group, that it shouldn't just be done by the masses—that's crazy; that each person gives according to their means; each person has a role to play in a greater society.
Not everyone is meant to be a leader. Not everyone is meant to be a follower. Not everyone is meant to be a worker, or an athlete, or an artist. You know, you need to find your own place in society, your own niche. And when you find that, then you contribute to society, and that's something that makes you good and makes society better.
So there can be a hierarchical sense in that sense. But Aquarians are also… oftentimes you can find them in the military, or you can find them in something like ballet, where there's a very specific way of doing things, and you're pushing the body past its physical limits.
So with the North Node being in Aquarius, what you might sort of find happening is that you're taking on more of those Aquarian attributes. You're not so laid-back—you're actually more focused; that you do believe that people should give according to their own means, but the idea is that they give according to their means. They don't just get carried along with things—that everyone has something to contribute, and these are things that might be affecting the way that you're approaching your life, or in the way that you're maybe even looking at your world.
So you may feel yourself becoming more that—more maybe regimented in a way, more strict in a way, more demanding that people give more of themselves than what they might give right away. And so, as a result of this North Node going through Aquarius, you may find that you're not as lenient or as self-sacrificing as you used to be.
And that is kind of in reference to the South Node going through Leo. You might have really identified more with the idea of taking on more of a lenient attitude towards people or self-sacrificing attitude towards people. You might have been very personally invested in that, and you might have been willing to give people not only the benefit of the doubt, but you'll take up the burden that they should be carrying, and things like that.
Right now, you're feeling more like people have to do their fair share, and maybe even more along the lines that to excuse them from that commitment or that obligation would be counterproductive. So people in your life might be commenting on like, “Hey, you know, when did you get so uptight?” or, “When did you get so demanding?” or, “When did you get so intolerant?”
And you yourself might be a little bit surprised at that coming out in you. But this is how the Aquarius energy is trying to find the fit with the Pisces energy. It's going to be giving you more of a focus and more of a sense of structure, and more of an insistence that people contribute and that you contribute as well.
And you're not going to be identifying with the underdog as much as you used to. You're not going to be saying, “Well, this person came from a difficult environment or a difficult background.” You're going to be saying, “Yes, you came from a difficult environment. Yes, you came from a difficult background, but it's time to move past that. It's time to leave that behind, and it's time to see yourself for who you are right now.”
Don't define yourself by all the bad things that have been done to you and the things that you have suffered. It's true that bad things have been done to you. It's true that you have suffered. But if you identify yourself as that, then you identify yourself as not being a full expression of who you are.
You see yourself as being wounded and hurt, maybe even embittered, and you may even always take on the victim role rather than the role of someone who's gone through those things. And so, as I said, this is going to sound really different coming out of your mouth to your loved ones and friends and acquaintances or people that you work with, and it's going to sound very different coming out of your mouth to you.
But as I said, the South Node brings the things that we need to be leaving behind. And what needs to be left behind is that feeling of not being seen, that feeling of not being recognized, that feeling of like settling for less than when you know that you're capable of more.
The North Node in Aquarius is saying, “You are capable of more, and now is the time to not only embrace it, but to actualize it.”
