Transcript
Amanda: All right, everybody. Welcome to The Astrology Hub Podcast. Today, we have a guest that I am really excited to either introduce you to or just feature because you probably have come across her on your YouTube feed or your social media feed.
Her name is Helena Woods, and she is so good. I told her when she popped on, I have been following her work, I don't know, maybe a couple years, where she's just been popping onto my feed, and every time I see her face, I'm just like, wow, she is doing an incredible job. She's an amazing astrologer. She's an amazing content creator. She really has a very unique way of communicating the astrological language in a way that people can understand, which I always just admire so much because I know how hard that is.
She has been practicing astrology since 2011. She is a world-traveling astrologer, an astrocartographer, a teacher, and she has created a method called the Right Place, Right Time, where she teaches people how to go to specific places on the planet that correlate with important astrological transits.
So we're gonna talk about that. We're also gonna talk about this incredible eclipse season that we are currently in. So Helena, welcome to The Astrology Hub Podcast. I'm so happy you're here.
Helena: Thank you for having me on. This is such an honor. I've been a fan of Astrology Hub for so long, and you—been a fan of yours for so long. This is just like a pinch-me moment. I feel like I manifested this.
Amanda: Ugh. You know what is so cool? When we are putting our authentic signal out into the world, the right people receive it, they resonate with it, and then eventually we get to connect, which is—
Helena: Yeah!
Amanda: —just so cool. I just love it. Okay. Yeah.
Introducing Helena Woods
Amanda: Because this is your Astrology Hub debut, and I know you have a really fascinating story to tell, let's talk a little story and get your backstory about how you even became who you are right now and doing what you're doing with astrology.
Helena: Yeah. So my mom had her astrologer make me an info packet on my birth chart and our synastry and her birth chart, and I had this packet my whole life. And she got it done when she was a—when I was a newborn baby—
Amanda: Wow…
Helena: —'cause my mom was really into astrology and manifestation and all of that. And so growing up as a kid, I always had this big info packet in my room, and I loved looking at it. But I didn't know what a lot of the symbols meant, but I loved reading about it.
And it's wild, because throughout high school I became obsessed with synastry and relationship compatibility, and I would watch Leo King on YouTube every day. Like, I would wait for his forecast for the day. I would, like, eagerly wait for the video to drop, and I would go to the local bookstore near my house, and I was always drawn to the astrology section.
And so it's almost like this fascination with people and understanding relationships led me into astrology. And I was actually doing theater at the time. I was doing acting. And so I would do this, you know, on the side for fun. I would look at my friend's birth information in English lit class, for instance, or in drama club.
And so when I was 18 years old, I saved up all my money working a lot of different jobs, and I moved to New York, and I went to pursue the whole acting thing. And I would spend all my free time going to Barnes & Noble, sitting on the floor, reading astrology books, Linda Goodman's books, and AstroTwins, and just trying to understand astrology more for fun.
And so this has always been a background passion, never something I ever thought I would pursue. I used to go to astrologers all the time in New York, and so many of the predictions they made were right, and that's what was, like, a game changer for me, was they would tell me, like, “This is gonna happen in four years. This is gonna happen in five years,” and then it would happen. And that was a moment that really got my gears turning.
And then I ended up moving to France. My husband got a job out here, so we moved out here. And I felt this overwhelming feeling of home for the first time in my life, 'cause I—I'm a restless traveler. I've always been a—wanting to move and take bus rides and just, you know, travel to new places. I've never felt that sense of home before. And when we moved out to France, I felt this immediately.
And I started doing some research on it, and I found astrocartography online. There was all these, you know, articles and pieces on it, and so I started learning about astrocartography when we moved here in 2018.
And I remember there was a pivotal moment. It was, like, right before the pandemic. I started hearing all of these astrologers online, 'cause I was watching all of them on YouTube and their forecasts and what they were saying. And they were talking about this, you know, Pluto-Saturn conjunction, and they were talking about, like, what's coming at the beginning of 2020.
And I remember being like, “Okay, I'm gonna, like, wait and see what happens.” And then when the pandemic was announced, I had a moment where I was like, “Oh my God, this is for real. Like, this isn't just looking at relationship compatibility or trying to understand a birth chart. This is… There's a predictive nature to astrology that works.”
And that was the moment I started listening to The Astrology Podcast religiously, took his courses. Chris Brennan, incredible astrologer, took all his courses, and I just became, like—I ate… I eat, breathe, and sleep astrology since that moment. It's all I, like… It's my passion. It's my obsession. I can't… Like, I'm obsessed.
And a year and a half later, I went into meditation, and it was clear as day. I was told in meditation, “You need to start talking about astrocartography online.” So I started making YouTube videos, and I started writing blog posts, and then I went full-time as an astrologer within six months.
It just—it's weird how, like, the—it's been a long journey, but the pieces all fell when they were meant to. It was, like, divinely guided. Like, I moved to France during my Jupiter return, and Jupiter is in my first house. And finding astrocartography and then becoming obsessed with that on my Venus IC line, which is a line that's associated with finding home and loving where you live. And that all happened for me when I moved here.
Amanda: Oh my God, I love it. I love it so much. It's such an amazing story, and I also love to think about how you were doing acting, and you probably thought that that was gonna lead one way, right? Ah. Because it was what you knew, right? You go—
Helena: Yeah!
Amanda: —into theater, or you go into, you know, I don't know, commercials, movies, whatever you were thinking at the time. And then you're using those skills, but you're using them in a way that you couldn't imagine at the time because the platform and the medium didn't exist the way it does now.
But I just—
Helena: Yeah…
Amanda: —love thinking about how our lives are like that. Like, we're always in training for the next thing. We don't always know why or where exactly it's gonna lead or how it's gonna unfold.
Helena: Yeah.
Amanda: But your story is such a beautiful example of just trusting that unfolding process and letting it guide you. When your mom gave you that packet as a newborn, did you even—were you interested in astrology too until high school, or did it kind of, like, drop in for you in high school?
Helena: It was junior year. So I grew up with that packet, and then it wasn't until junior year in high school, 2011, when it was like I only wanted to read about astrology. Like, I wanted to learn more about sextiles and trines, and, like, what does it mean if this person's Venus is, you know, making a relationship with this.
That, like, obsession with going deeper was in high school when Neptune entered Pisces, that collective wave of the interest in astrology and spirituality. And that was also around the time that I got really into manifestation, like law of attraction stuff too, which—it's funny. We might be able to talk about this, but I don't really believe in kind of the “you create your reality completely” as much as I believe that there's something divinely timed, and there is something beautifully fated. And we can use our energy to help us in those moments, whatever hand we're dealt in life.
So it's interesting how, like, the belief system and the philosophical ideas have changed as I've gotten more into astrology.
Amanda: Yeah. I mean, it's hard to be into astrology as long as you have, or I have, or most of our audience has, and not know that we aren't in complete control.
Helena: Yeah.
Amanda: Like, there's absolutely timing. There's absolutely things that are written in the chart.
Helena: Yeah.
The Right Place Right Time Method
Amanda: But like you say, we get to actually decide and choose how we're gonna engage with those energetic moments, which brings us to—I love this so much—you have this Right Place, Right Time method. So tell us about that. Tell us about some experiences you've had actually using that in your life.
Helena: Oh my gosh, it's incredible. So a year and a half ago, I was wrestling with this idea of fate and free will. Like, which is it? Is it one or the other, or is it both?
Amanda: Yeah.
Helena: And so I started traveling the world. I'd been traveling the world for many years using astrocartography and, like, transits, but I started coupling that with, okay, going to specific astrocartography lines when they're being transited by certain planets or through progression.
But my method is really, like, transits to the planets in your chart and then going to those lines, and then coupling that with electional astrology. So you're picking good electional charts throughout the year. You're leaving your front door with that chart to kind of describe the story or event that you hope to manifest.
Amanda: Hmm.
Helena: And then you go to that place when the transit is hitting it, and then while you're doing that, in addition, there's the mindset work, the mental work of, like, locking in.
And locking in for me is, like, getting really focused on what it is I'm calling in and not allowing distractions or external noise to get in the way of what's coming. And so I've done this for years where I go to the lines, and it's crazy.
Let's say, for instance, I had Jupiter on my Sun. So Jupiter was transiting over my natal Sun. And so I go out. I wait until, um, you know, Jupiter's right on the Sun. Or in one example, Uranus went right on my Sun. So Uranus was at 25 degrees, and then it hit my Sun at 26.
So I went all the way to Australia, and I didn't wanna take that flight 'cause it's long and I don't like long flights. But I waited until Uranus was right about to hit the Sun. I go out to Australia, and I have my Sun Midheaven line—so Sun on the MC. I land, my plane lands, and I'm like, “All right,” and I'm locking in. I'm in the plane, I'm journaling. Amazing opportunities are coming to me. Literally, this is my destiny. I'm, like, totally in the zone, right?
I get out to the Sun MC line. Within 24 hours, a major journalist reaches out to me to publicize my work with astrocartography—Business Insider, The Times. And then the next day, another one, The Times reaches out within another 24 hours later. These kinds of things happen all the time.
Even, like, as crazy as, like, I'll fly over a Jupiter line, and when I notice, I'll get my laptop out, and I'll be on the plane, and I'm tracking the whole flight. I'm not watching movies; I'm watching the plane as it's moving, and then I'm tracking it with the astrocartography, and I'm like, “Okay, I picked a good electional chart to get on this flight. We got the transits. Let's go.”
I'm flying over a Jupiter line, and I'm like, “Mm, I really want this one woman to reach out to me. I'm dreaming of being on her podcast.” It's this manifestation podcast, like, this business podcast, and I was like, “Oh my God, I would, like, dream to talk to this woman.”
So I'm, like, writing in my journal a letter from her to me: “Dear Helena, I would love to have you on my podcast. It would be a dream.” And I'm, like, getting very specific in my letter entry. I kid you not, my plane lands and I have a DM from her in my Instagram folder.
Now, keep in mind, I had connected with her a year and a half ago, but she kinda ghosted me, and, like, we hadn't talked for a year and a half, which is totally fine. But, like, she got busy. She's a very busy woman, very successful busy woman, right? So I'm like, “That's fine.” Out of nowhere, a year and a half later, she messages me as my plane lands after manifesting on the Jupiter line as it's being transited.
It's like these kinds of things happen to me all the time, and it's like I've realized that when you time things, you can almost, like, speed up what you want. But it's part your focus and your energy and not being at all swayed by anything else but the focus, and then it's using your free will to go to the right place at the right time using electional astrology. So it's like a four-part framework.
Amanda: Yes. Wow. This is so next level of, like—embodying the astrological energies, riding the waves. I'm always… You know, I live in Hawaii, so I'm always talking about surfing the waves. But this is, like, literally getting on the wave—
Helena: Yes!
Amanda: —at the exact place on the planet where the wave is the most potent, and then bringing your awareness, your intention, your consciousness to meet that. This is—I mean, wow. Yeah. Like, wow. I—
Helena: And it's crazy that you say wave—
Amanda: Yes!
Helena: —because that was the word that, like, channeled to me in meditation when I was thinking about astrocartography. How can I get the word of astrocartography into the hands of more people in the mainstream? Right.
Amanda: Yes.
Helena: And the idea was like, catch the wave. Catch the wave. Yes. Catch the wave. And so I've recently started a new business called New Wave Astrology, and I'm gonna be doing conferences and retreats and, like, it's all about waves.
Amanda: It is all—
Helena: —about waves… catch the momentum. 100%. Ride the momentum.
Amanda: Totally. And participate with that, and—
Helena: Yeah!
Amanda: —don't try to hop on a wave when there is no wave.
Helena: Yeah.
Amanda: Like, the worst thing you do is go out with your surfboard and there's no waves. You just sit there. You enjoy. You look around you. You see the beauty. You don't try to get on a wave that doesn't exist.
Helena: Exactly. It's frustrating. Yes.
Amanda: Yes. Oh, my God.
Helena: And it's taking—it's being patient, and I've learned this the hard way with electional astrology. There are times where I wanna post that reel and I'm impatient, but it's like, no, wait till the electional chart. And it's like when you wait for the moment, and sometimes you might have a three-month break. Like, there's no—
Amanda: Yes!
Helena: —waves coming for three months. Yes. That's fine.
Amanda: Yeah.
Helena: Take care of you, your relationships—
Amanda: Yeah.
Helena: —your personal life, your health, your mental wellbeing, and then when you see that wave coming in three months, start preparing a few weeks before so you can ride it.
Amanda: Yes. Well, even in that three months, it is about preparing.
Helena: Yes!
Amanda: You know, you're working on yourself. You're working on your craft. You're ready to ride it when it comes.
Helena: Yeah.
Amanda: Right? Yeah. You don't… That's, like, just as potent of an opportunity in the non-wave time to really be ready for the wave.
Helena: Exactly!
Amanda: This is so freaking amazing. I just, I love it because I really feel that the next phase of astrology is so much about embodiment—
Helena: Yeah…
Amanda: —is so much about taking these ideas from an intellectual—of course, we need the intellectual understanding. Like, you couldn't do what you're doing without the intellectual understanding of what it is, how it works. Like, you're very technical and you get that piece—
Helena: Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Amanda: —which you need. And then what? Like, then how do we use it to actually live our best life, to do what we came here on the planet to do? And you're just doing that in such a beautiful way. So tell us the one story, 'cause you told me this behind the scenes.
Helena: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Amanda: Listen, I wanna hear this story and share it with everybody 'cause it's just so good. Sun-Pluto.
Helena: Yeah. So I have a tendency to pursue risk. My Mars is in Aries. I like a good challenge. I like a good goal. I like a risk. And so I like to fly to places where there is potential risk, and I've got a lot of crazy stories.
Um, but one of them that really changed my life was going to my Sun-Pluto astrocartography lines in Iceland when there was an eclipse on my Sun.
Amanda: Mm-hmm.
Helena: And I have Sun exactly opposite Pluto by degree. I have a Sun at 26 Taurus, and Pluto is at 26 Scorpio. And so I was like, let me see what this would bring. Let me see what opportunity this can bring.
I go out there, and what ends up happening is not this external, you know, death and rebirth. It was actually a complete breakdown of my internal fear that I've been holding since childhood around the fear of being seen. I'd been bullied as a kid on the playground. I was, you know, kind of the weird one, but I also, like, shined a lot, and there was this kind of weird reactions I would get from people growing up as a kid.
Amanda: Mm-hmm.
Helena: And so there was this deep fear around fully being seen, like allowing people to see me and all the multifaceted parts of me.
And when I went out to this eclipse, and that eclipse happened, it was like internally there was a lot of emotional shedding of, like, releasing old memories from my childhood, and my parents, and my upbringing, and what I was told as a kid.
But what's wild is after that grief, and that crying, and that releasing, and journaling, and doing that inner work, I remember leaving Iceland feeling like I'm going to go home a different person after this trip. And that was the moment where I have not been the same ever since.
It was that moment when I left Iceland that I up-leveled in my career. I started going viral. I started getting way more attention by people. I started dressing different. I started being me and showcasing my many different facets.
And in turn, the fear was always, “I'm scared people aren't gonna like me. I'm scared people are gonna talk about me on Reddit. I'm scared that people are gonna talk about me and bully me. I'm scared.” That's always been my fear my whole life.
And when I left Iceland, it was like, “I'm done. I'm free. I'm liberated. This is who I am.” And since then, it's just been courage. I live with courage. I live authentically from my heart, and whatever is out there, it's not to do with me. And that was a shift I'll never forget, was that eclipse in Iceland.
And so, and I've been to many places where there's been eclipses. I mean, I went out to Dubai when the war broke out. I saw the Mars-Uranus square on the geodetic map. It was a Mercury retrograde. It was a Mars-Uranus square. Like, there was so much going on, and I still chose to be out there. And that experience, going out there, was another up-level for me.
I met incredible women at this conference where I felt like I was really seen and accepted and being part of a beautiful community of people who wanna see each other succeed. And I literally left that conference hitting another level, and I haven't been the same again.
So it's like every time I go to these places where there are extremes or difficulties I see on my map, I go into it saying, “I'm ready. I'm prepared for anything. I've got this. I owe it to myself to go all in.” And when I leave, there's another up-level that happens right after. And it's like I choose the path of growth and adventure over discomfort.
Amanda: Ugh. Ooh. Helena, I have to tell you, I just have to reflect to you, because one of the things I've loved in watching your content, and I even said this to my team, I'm like, “She's just… You are ballsy.” Like, you're just out there. You're just saying it. You're 100% yourself, and that is so attractive and so rare.
Helena: Mm-hmm.
Amanda: And so I love what you're modeling for people. It's like, especially in this period of time—
Helena: Yeah…
Amanda: —where, no, this is the astrology of this time that we're—this collective wave that we're surfing—
Helena: Yeah!
Amanda: —is so much about accessing that authenticity of who we are and being brave enough to shine it as bright as we can without fear.
Helena: Yeah.
Amanda: And to not need to always know where that's gonna lead, and to be up for an adventure. I mean, all of the things you just said, I'm just like, this is exactly what this time is all about.
And so when we have people like you doing this, and doing it so well and so beautifully, it is an inspiration for everybody. So thank you for facing those fears, for doing the things, for reporting on it the whole time. You're just like—
Helena: Yeah…
Amanda: —so cute with all your little research and your reports. It's like being a journalist on—
Helena: Yes!
Amanda: —astrocartography—
Helena: Yes!
Amanda: —and like in real life, here's how it's working. It's just amazing. It's just so good.
Helena: I love it. That's so good. A journalist reporting on astrocartography. Yes. Obsessed. Yes.
Amanda: Yes. Yes. So good.
Leo & Aquarius Eclipses
Amanda: Okay. Let's come to, since you just brought in eclipses, on the day this is released, we have a very big eclipse, and then we're gonna be having another one. So talk to us about this period of time. Give us your orientation to eclipses in general. What is the energy around eclipses? Where are the opportunities? How do you read them?
Helena: Eclipses are windows of change. They're windows of opportunity. I once heard someone say they're like accelerators of fate. They open doors and close doors.
So things will just happen during eclipses, and all your job is really just to be observant and watch what's going on in your external life, but also what's happening, what's changing within you on an internal level. There are times when there are extreme moments of power, influence, or potency.
And the thing about this upcoming eclipse that's at 20 degrees Leo on August 12th, is that it's in Leo, right? And so there's this new seed being planted, something brand new that's starting, brand new around Leo, wherever we have Leo in our chart. And when I think of Leo, I think of the courage to be seen, to allow yourself to be fully visible, and to be vulnerable, and to lead with an open heart.
You know, I think of Leo as the celebrity or the singer that's on stage, and the audience, the people that come together, is like Aquarius, and they both need each other. You can't have one without the other. They both need to always be working in tandem in this symbiotic relationship, 'cause there's something magical when those two fuse together.
And there's something about this new beginning around: how can I fully express who I honestly, authentically am, and allow that open heart and vulnerability to be seen and witnessed?
Amanda: Mm.
Helena: And it's loosely conjunct Jupiter and Mercury. So it's like there's this almost, like, this faith, this belief, this idealism, this hope that, like, the possibility and potential can be really magical with what we're starting.
And it's also loosely conjunct the South Node. And so one of the things that we're gonna be seeing over the next year and a half for wherever you have Leo in your chart is something is going to need to be released or let go to make room to be honestly yourself. In order to shine bright and to inspire others, some things you're gonna have to let go of. That could be old beliefs. That could be an old job that's not working. That could be something you're doing that's not in alignment or honestly a reflection of who you are anymore. Like, maybe you've outgrown it.
And so something needs to let go. Something's a bit tiring or needs to be released to shine. And in turn, because we also have Aquarius opposite Leo, there's gonna be this desire—and we have four eclipses in Aquarius over the coming year and a half, way more than Leo. And so there's a lot more emphasis around Aquarius over the next year and a half, especially with that Pluto-North Node conjunction once we get into '27, '28.
And there's this sense of like, okay, when you have that inspiration, you have that prestige, you have that honest self-expression, you're honest with yourself, okay, how can you give that back to others? Because if you're just shining your light for yourself, and you're just doing it for ego, it's not fulfilling, it's not meaningful, and it doesn't make the world a better place. A Leo that gives from the heart generously without wanting something back is the true, like, highest form of Leo.
And so with Aquarius, giving back to community, bringing people together, bringing communities together… You know, that's why I had the whole idea to start conferences, the New Wave Astrology conferences, is I wanna bring hundreds of people around the world together in one space, and there's this alive, magical energy of, like, bringing the power of astrology and ancient tradition, but also making it so it's mainstream accessible, that the world can catch on.
And so bringing people together with shining the light and elevating other people's lights is, like, the theme of the next year and a half. And so that's… It all starts August 12th, though. This is, like, the first seed.
Amanda: Whoo! Woo. When's your first conference, and how do we help you? How do we support you, get the word out?
Helena: Oh, I would love it. I'll give you a link to the waitlist. I'm actually… Okay, so crazy, I'm going out to LA in a couple days to go to my Moon MC line. My Moon is being eclipsed within one degree, so the Leo—this eclipse we're talking about—is within one degree of my Moon and my Midheaven.
So I'm going out—this is like an example of right time, right place—I'm going out to that line, the Moon MC line, and I'm going to lock in a venue. I'm going to LA to scope out theaters and venues, and then I'm gonna lock in the deposit to plant the seed of this next year and a half, and I'm hoping it's September of '27.
Amanda: September of '27. Okay. Let me know. I'll make sure that our community knows. We'll put the link to the waitlist in the description of this event.
But this is, you know, it's funny because I've also had the desire to do live events, but I also have a desire to support other people doing the live events, and just participating and helping. And I don't know that it's my kuleana. Kuleana is a Hawaiian word that means both responsibility and joy in the same word.
And so whenever I think of something, it can be a great idea, but I'm like, is it actually my kuleana, or is it something that I'm here to support others in doing? Yeah. Just because I have the idea doesn't necessarily mean I'm the one that is doing it, you know?
Helena: Yeah.
Amanda: But as a Capricorn, usually it's like, “Okay, well, I gotta do it.” It's like, well—
Helena: Yeah…
Amanda: —maybe actually I don't. Maybe somebody else is doing it and there's a way that I can support that, which—
Helena: Yeah. Which is—oh my God, that would be magical. Yes, exactly. Yes. Yeah.
Amanda: Okay.
Helena: I'm so excited, yeah.
Amanda: So this is the August eclipse. I love what you're saying. It's a brand new seed, a brand new starting point. This is a time where you can be reflecting on: where have I not allowed myself to be fully seen? And why is that, and can I address that and face that so that I can actually be fully seen in my truest, most authentic expression, which to me, is kind of what astrology's all about, right?
Helena: Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
Amanda: Once we understand the design, it is the task that we have to express it to the fullest.
Helena: Yeah. And have that vulnerably and with an open heart.
Amanda: Yeah.
Helena: And I think astrology is one of the most magical, divine, pure-of-heart gifts that we have. It allows us to trust in our timing. It allows us to lean into the gifts we have in our chart, our purpose that's in our chart. It gives us permission to pursue the calling that's already on our heart, 'cause astrology, it's not causing you to do anything; it's just a mirror reflecting that which you are doing and that which you are already feeling and what you know.
And so astrology is just such a gift to be able to be practitioners, to be in community together, to find this calling and bring it into the hands of more people. It is the most life-giving, fulfilling, meaningful work. There's just nothing… You know, I've done many, many jobs in my life. I've been an entrepreneur. I've had many businesses before astrology. There's just nothing that comes close to seeing the transformation and the impact that people have when they get that clarity and information about who they are.
Amanda: Mm. Amen to that.
Ad Break
Amanda: All right, friends, we are talking about the solar eclipse in Leo that is happening today when this episode is released. We have put together a free eclipse guide. So if you're curious about how this eclipse is personally impacting you by Sun sign, rising sign, you can get our free eclipse guide, find out where it's impacting your chart.
That's both for the solar eclipse and the upcoming lunar eclipse. This is available to you right now for download at astrologyhub.com/eclipses. We're also gonna put that link in the show notes. And now, back to the episode.
The Lot of Spirit
Amanda: Okay. Let's talk about one more thing before I let you go, and I'm just so grateful for this connection. Lot of Spirit. Yeah. Tell us about the Lot of Spirit. I heard you on Instagram the other day. It's rare that I listen to an astrology thing that makes me actually pull out my chart, but this one did.
Helena: Wow. Oh!
Amanda: My gosh. And you were just talking about the Lot of Spirit, and how for you, the Lot of Spirit is where purpose can be found.
Helena: Wow.
Amanda: And so I was like, “Oh, I wanna look.” I haven't spent much time looking at my Lot of Spirit, so I just did. Yeah. So tell us about this.
Helena: Oh, it's a point in your chart. So it's not a planet, it's a point, and it's calculated from your Ascendant, the Sun, and the Moon. So depending on a day or a night chart, you'll just subtract, and it's all based on the degrees of where they are in your chart.
And so when you calculate all this together, you get a point, and this is called… You got seven of them, actually. There's seven Hermetic Lots, and they all represent different things. Like, Lot of Necessity can deal with legal matters, or Lot of Courage is, like, where you need to lean in and pursue courage.
But the Lot of Spirit is my favorite, 'cause it has to do with the Sun, and the Sun is the energy of willpower, and, like, what are you willing to become? What do you feel illuminated by? What do you wish to go and pursue? And so the Lot of Spirit, that point in your birth chart, it shows you your purpose. That is—the point shows you why your soul came into this life. What are you here to do?
And for some of us, it will be career-related, and for some of us, it might be something else. Like, perhaps relationships and learning how to forgive is a soul lesson, a soul purpose of why we came here. It could be something to do with family ancestry and something with our lineage. There's a reason why we came here to do something with that. And so your Lot of Spirit shows you why you came here and what you're called to do in this life.
And what you wanna look at in your chart is you wanna see what zodiac sign it's in, what house it's in, 'cause that's gonna show you the topic that your purpose is about. If there's any conjunctions—so like, I know for you, you got your North Node and your Pluto conjunct Lot of Spirit, so there's a big desire to bring change to the world, and to, you know, bring transformation into the hands of more people. And there's the North Node, which is like—there's a drive there. There's a calling that's, like, even more with that North Node.
And then what you wanna do is you wanna take it one step further. Locate the house, but then look to the ruler. So let's say you have your Lot of Spirit in Libra. You just look to where you have Venus in your chart, and you're just gonna incorporate those topics and that story—what your Venus is doing—and bring it in and tie that with your Lot of Spirit.
Amanda: Mm. Okay, you guys. Everybody pull out your charts. Let's take a look at this. So, you know, we have—one of the things about Astrology Hub is we're obviously a hub of astrology, and we're bringing in lots of different perspectives, and lots of different techniques, and lots of different methods. And this is a Hellenistic astrology approach, right?
Helena: Yes.
Amanda: And I'm sure you're aware of the evolutionary astrology that says the North Node is your soul purpose, and then maybe you're aware of esoteric astrology that says your rising sign is your purpose. How do you work with the different… Do you just choose one that resonates the most with you and go with that? Or are you integrating different methods and perspectives when you're thinking about things like this?
Helena: Yeah. I believe that you can make anything resonate. So if you pick one, you can make your mind spin it and be like, “Oh, yeah, that's me. That's me too,” you know?
Amanda: Right.
Helena: I personally—I got my Mercury in Gemini, so I like the data. I want the tracking of the detail. I need to see evidence to believe that, like, okay, something's working here. There's a consistency. There's a pattern here.
Amanda: Right.
Helena: For me, it's noticing the transits to the Lot of Spirit.
Amanda: Mm.
Helena: So if you pull up Lot of Spirit in your birth chart, notice when you have transits that hit that point, what is happening? You can also use zodiacal releasing. I am a Hellenistic astrologer. I learned everything from Chris Brennan's work. And, like, using zodiacal releasing, looking up the Lot of Spirit, finding your most important, busy, active, defining dates in your Lot of Spirit timeline, your biography of all those dates you have listed—just noticing.
Like, I'm a journaler. I journal every day, so I track everything. Been journaling since I was a little kid. I have dates for everything. And so when you go back in time and you read past years and past months and past days, you pull it up on the zodiacal releasing and the transits, you notice, like, what's going on.
There is a consistency to activations to the Lot of Spirit. Whereas I find the North Node is like, “Oh, I'm hungry. I'm obsessed. I want this.” And the North Node and South Node in my perspective—in the Hellenistic perspective—is that it's an area of life where you're trying to seek balance. ‘Cause Rahu in the North Node is, like, increase, so there's a lot of energy towards something. You're driven towards something.
And then the South Node is Ketu, the tail of the dragon, and it's apathy, carelessness, or tiredness. It's something that drains you or depletes you over time. And so wherever you have the nodes, it shows you where you're in kind of this push-pull dynamic, like the two areas of your life that you're trying to find balance in. And I personally don't believe we're ever gonna fully find balance.
Amanda: Mm.
Helena: And that's just our life—we're always gonna be trying to find the middle way, the middle ground. Um, so that's kind of my perspective. And then the rising sign—my perspective is, like, that's your identity. That's how you see the world. That's your attitude, your outlook on life, and it's your physical body.
Amanda: Mm. Okay. Ah, yes. It's funny to sit in my seat, 'cause I hear all the different ways. And you're right, you really can find meaning and purpose and direction in any place that you really put your awareness in. That's why only understanding one or two things about your chart can be enough to actually give your life more purpose and direction.
Helena: Oh, completely.
Amanda: Because if you just zone in on that and you start to let it unfold and understand it from a deeper perspective, you're naturally going to feel more yourself just from that, you know?
Yeah. So—and you can go deeper, and you can… If anything Helena is saying you're just like, “What the…?” Tell us—we haven't had very many people come on and talk about zodiacal releasing. Ooh, I think Gemini Brett might be one of the only ones, which—we might need you to come talk about that.
Helena: Aha! I'd be happy to.
Amanda: Because after I went down your Lot of Spirit rabbit hole the other day, I also decided to go down the zodiacal releasing rabbit hole, and I found some free calculators that actually are beautifully done. I was like, “Wow.” Yeah. For someone who wants to go deeper on Lot of Spirit, where can we start? What would you tell them?
Helena: I would say you could pull it up on any app of your choice. I use Astro Gold. That's, like, my go-to software. But you can use any software you want. You just add the Lot of Spirit. You can pull up the other lots if you want to see the other ones too. Like, Lot of Eros is what you desire in your life to feel good. Like, there's other ones too you can add.
But pull up that point and you'll notice it by—it's a circle with an X in the middle.
Amanda: Mm-hmm.
Helena: And you could use astro.com. Like, on astro.com, you could pull up—it's Pars Spiritus or Lot of Spirit. You'll see it as like an additional selection that you can add. You can just add that and it'll show you the point in the chart.
Amanda: Pars Fortuna? Yeah.
Helena: That's—
Amanda: That's what it is? Okay.
Helena: That's what it'll say on astro.com.
Amanda: Yes. Okay. And then what about people who got really activated by what you're doing with your transit lines and astrocartography? Where do they start with this?
Helena: Oof. You can join Fate Accelerator, which is my method of, like, the four-part framework of astrocartography mixed with transits to your chart and electional astrology and mindset. That's all in there, and you can find the link. Um, it's open.
And I do live hot-seat calls. I call them astrology advisorships. So you can come up on the hot seat and we'll look at your chart. I'll tell you about your chart. Any questions you have, I'll answer. And then we've got, like, 13 hours of video modules and lessons where you can learn all of this.
Amanda: Oh my God, amazing. Yeah, I mean, again, just to see how astrology, and knowing your astrology, and really working with your astrology, and trusting where it leads you—how alive and vibrant it can make you. Just look at that. You're just so alive, so vibrant, so creative, so many different things that you're working on, and it's just really… I just wanna reflect that back to you. It's just a really beautiful thing, and it's a big service that you are providing to the world by just being yourself.
And that is true for all of you. Like, just being yourself is the service. I mean, we think that we have to do all these things and be these people that we're not in order to be accepted and loved and of value. And it's like, no, actually just be yourself as best as you can.
Helena: Yeah. Right? Exactly, yes.
Amanda: Yes.
Helena: Yeah. And your Lot of Spirit will show you a lot of that truth too. And your first house, you know, that'll all show you and point you in that direction of who you are.
Amanda: Wow, beautiful. Helena, this has been such a pleasure. Thank you so much. Where can they follow your work? You know, you gotta follow her on social media, you guys, because she's just—you've turned astrological education into an entertaining art form.
Helena: I love it, yes.
Amanda: You really have.
Helena: It's fun. Yes, it's—it's fun, right? I know. It's super fun.
Amanda: It's fun to watch you have fun. It's like, ah, she's having so much fun with this. And you're in Paris, right?
Helena: Yeah, I'm in Paris, really close to my—I have my Saturn Ascendant line and my Venus IC line here. Okay. But I go back and forth between this and California, so I'm six months in California, six months in Paris.
Amanda: Okay. My daughters and I just finished, uh, the Emily in Paris series.
Helena: Oh, fun!
Amanda: My girls, they're both obsessed. I mean, they actually were before the show, but now both of them are like, you know, “When are we going to Paris?” And—
Helena: Oh, I love it! Yeah. Yeah. I love it. And yeah, people can find me at helenawoods.com, @mshelenawoods on Instagram. I post there every day. It's kinda like my journal. I just treat it as like my diary, my scrapbook.
Amanda: Yeah.
Helena: And then YouTube, I'm at Helena Woods Astrology, and then I have a podcast, Cosmic Compass, if anyone wants to listen to the podcast.
Amanda: Amazing. Go check her out, everybody. Thank you so much for your time.
Helena: Thank you, Amanda.
Amanda: I know it's so late for you, and I'm just… Good luck with your venue selection. Yes. Keep us posted because I'm sure there are a lot of Astrology Hub community members who would love to be at an event like that.
Helena: Oh my gosh, thank you, Amanda. Seriously. We're a reflection of each other. You're such a kindred spirit.
Amanda: Aw, thank you. Okay, love, take care, and thank you everybody for being here. Thank you for being a part of our community, and thank you for making astrology a part of your life. I cannot wait to catch you on the next episode.
