Mercury and Venus love to mingle so you can expect to make the acquaintance of all sorts of people that you wouldn’t typically meet while these two planets are forming a sextile in the sky (July 18th to 23d). It’s a great opportunity to broaden your horizons, add to your contact list, and even brush up on your conversation skills. This planetary energy is usually chatty and fly-by-night, except that you could be making the acquaintance of someone who will go on to become a major player in your life – but you’ll have to wait to see what the next couple of weeks bring first.

On July 18th, Ruling Planet Mercury turns retrograde in that part of your solar chart that pertains to self-undoing. That sounds more ominous than it is; the modern equivalent is self-sabotaging behavior which is why you'll want to stop pushing yourself to do something you don't feel like doing and go back the way you came. Not only are you in danger of repeating behavior you know won't work, you're also on the brink of hurting someone yet again. It's probably not what you want to hear right now, but you'll recognize the sagacity of this when Mercury comes out of retrograde on August 11th.

Mercury retrograde in Leo can lead to embarrassing situations because Leo is ruled by the Sun and the Sun shines a spotlight on anyone born under it. What looked triumphant one moment can become humiliating the next so the best way to survive this time is to own your mistakes. Don't try to distance yourself from them, cover up, or explain your way out of a corner because you'll only make matters worse; however you will come across as much more honorable – and indeed admirable – by being straightforward.
