Transcript

Amanda: Okay, my friends. I am so happy you're here. Today we have a legend in the field of astrology with us, Judith Hill. And Judith is usually on our platform speaking to medical astrology, something that she is one of the best in the world at. But the truth is Judith has practiced and studied and researched and taught on and done readings for all genres of astrology throughout her decades and decades-long career.

So we have her here talking about love, synastry, and compatibility. She's recently come out with a new book, and it is called The Astrologer's Love Book, and she's also gonna be teaching a class with us here at Astrology Hub on love, synastry, and chart compatibility.

We'll talk a little bit more about that throughout the podcast. But we're gonna be talking today about some of the misconceptions that people often have when they approach a relationship and start to look at the charts, and start to understand the relationship compatibility from an astrological perspective, and we're gonna be talking about the 10 things that you can look for in a chart that actually show compatibility, also the things that show that a relationship is really not compatible, and then what you can do about that.

So we're gonna be covering all of this here today. Judith, I am so, so happy to have you back. Thank you for joining us.

Judith: You're very welcome. I'm thrilled to be here.

Misconceptions

Amanda: All right. So let's start with those misconceptions. What do you see people doing over and over when they start to look at the astrology of themself and their partner, or their business partner, or their children, or any of the relationships in their life? What do you see people do that you're like, “Oof, that's actually not quite right”?

Judith: I think the first thing is the approach. People often make the mistake of thinking that they are their chart instead of they're inhabiting the chart. They're born into this chart, but who they are is that little dot in the middle, the soul. So you can have the most compatible chart in the world with a criminal, and that doesn't mean you should have a relationship with them.

So people say, “Oh, he's doing all these horrible things, and he just ran off with my car and my credit card, but our charts are so compatible,” you know.

Amanda: Yeah.

Judith: Men have the same thing with women. So that is perhaps the most important thing, is that we have to know what we're looking at, and we're made out of parts, just like a bicycle or a good meal.

Humans have many, many parts, and what we can see is how different parts are compatible or incompatible. So the other misconception is that something is perfect and something is terrible. Nothing is ever 100% compatible.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: There's always gonna be some place you're not, and so that's the joy of synastry, is you can find out how the parts are connecting, and what we look for is a high level of connectivity.

Amanda: And do you ever also bring into consideration the person's goals for a relationship, right? ‘Cause, like, not everybody is looking for, you know, happily ever after, or not everybody is looking for super hot chemistry, or… You know, people have different things that they wanna get out of a relationship, so how do we look at that when we're looking at charts?

Judith: That's a great question, and when I used to set marriage charts for peopleโ€”I've set several marriage charts, it's an artโ€”I would always say, “What do you want your marriage to be about?” And some people didn't want children, they wanted to travel. And other people wanted to be each other's research companions; they were in science.

And others just wanted a lot of hot chemistry, and they wanted it to last. And some wanted the full package. So, and then you have the problem of some people are homebodies and some people are career people. That can be seen. And some people are a career person who want to marry a homebody.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: And you get people who wanna be with someone like themselves, and then you get with people who wanna be with someone opposite. You know, it balances them.

Amanda: Yeah. Uh, yeah, it's amazing, and it seems like all of that complexity, you'd be able to see it in the chart.

Judith: You can.

Amanda: You just have to know what you're looking for, right?

Judith: You can see everything in the chart. Yeah. It's amazing. It's just that you have to know how to look and where to look.

Amanda: All right, Judith. So in the upcoming class that you're gonna be teaching with us live, which you're all invited to, by the wayโ€”we're gonna put all the information in the show notes, it's gonna happen on November 17th.

10 Things to Look for in Compatibility

Amanda: You're gonna be going through the 10 things that you look at in a chart, right? And you're gonna be helping us understand… As I understand it, there's a weighted technique to what you're doing. Not all aspects or not all placements are weighed equal. So can you talk to us a little bit about that?

Judith: I can. And you'd asked me at the beginning, what are some misconceptions. One misconception is that all aspects are equal when it comes to relationship compatibility.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: They're not. So I have the top six, then I have four more essentials, which are a little less, but very important, and then you have your deal breakers, which don't have to be deal breakers. You have to look around.

So in my book, the first half is devoted to the weighted system, the first things you look at, and you look for in the relationship. It's A, B, C, very simple, and it really works. And then the second half of the book, which I probably will not cover in the workshop because we only have three hours, is doing the side-by-side, more nuanced comparison. That's a much more advanced technique. Butโ€”

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: โ€”everybody should be able to do this who can spot a basic trine, square, sextile, you know, conjunction.

Amanda: Are there certain aspects… So what are we looking at in terms of ones that show compatibility versus ones that show, like you said, a deal breaker?

Judith: Yeah. Well, when you're looking at, you're comparing planets, and you're comparing first same with same: sun-sun, moon-moon, Mercury-Mercury, so forth. And then there's very important ones that are mixed, like Mars and Venus. Mars and Venus is very important, 'cause it shows chemistry, and Venus-Venus and Mars-Mars are very important too.

So you're looking at conjunctions, trines, and what's called the sextile, the 60-degree aspect. Theโ€”what are called the harmonious aspects, and they work very, very well in most cases. And, you know, there's always, with astrology, I say there's always an exception to every rule. You know, there are cases you'll see a square, and it's working real well because it's getting a trine from their rulers.

Well, I show how to do that in the book, and we'll show that in the workshop, how to correct something. So, you know, one of the very top ones that we want, but again, if you don't have it, that's fine. We're looking for several of the top 10. But one of the best, especially if you're wanting a sleeping buddy, you know, that you sleep all night with for the rest of your lives, so your energy's not drained, you want sun-sun compatibility. So that your suns are in the same, uh, like fire and air go together and earth and water go together, so the same gender it's called in astrology.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: And if the suns are very closely trine, that's excellent, or closely sextile. Born on the same birthday, no. Born on the same sign, considered rather neutral, can go either way. Opposite signs can go either way. They either balance or they don't understand each other. But trine, born like, uh, if you're a Cancer and they're born in Scorpio or Pisces, that's excellent.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: So a person born in your fellow earth, air, fire, or water sign, that's the best.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: The absolute best, but then you can also use the sextile.

Amanda: Okay, amazing. I'm checking boxes. My partner and I… I'm a Capricorn, he's a Taurus, so we got that first box checked. Yeah.

Judith: That's really important.

Amanda: And what happens when people go through the system and the astrology doesn't line up? The astrology doesn't indicate that the relationship has longevity or compatibility or harmony.

Judith: Well, to be honest, I've only seen this happen once.

Amanda: Hmm. Wow.

Judith: It's only once when the two people had almost everything squared everything, and they've been married 30 years.

Amanda: Wow.

Judith: But they did have a lot of conflicts that they've worked out, but they're both very, very spiritual people. They meditate. They live very good lives. They're devoted to helping humankind. And I have learned that when you have a spiritual background and intent, and you're really in the relationship and in the world for the right reasons, you can weather personality disharmony, because it doesn't matter to you that much.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: Most people, it matters a great deal. Mm. So if you're a certain type of person, it really doesn't matter if that person is a morning person and you're not, you know. It just doesn't matter that much. But, um, I have one other case. I have a chart incompatibility with someone who's one of my favorite friends, but we just get along great. But we are very, very, very different.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: Uh, but we appreciate the differences. Weโ€”

Amanda: Yes.

Judith: โ€”love them, and they help each other. So it's both… And again, when you get to a certain age, if you're flexible, personality differences don't matter that much, but they do a lot in your younger years.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: Or if you're trying to produce children, or if you've got a real estate agent who's not compatible with you, or a lawyer, that's terrible.

Amanda: Right.

Judith: You know?

Amanda: Yeah, that… yeah.

The Difference Between Synastry and Composite

Amanda: Okay, Judith, what is the difference between synastry and composite?

Judith: Ooh.

Amanda: And why choose one or the other?

Judith: This is a very good question. Very important. So, synastry is easy compared to composite. What synastry is, you have just two natal charts. You're comparing parts. Mercury, is that compatible with this person's Mars? Is this person's moon compatible with this person's sun or moon? Are your ascendants compatible? It's so easy, and you insert the planets into each other's charts. You can see the houses they stimulate.

Now, composite is based on a theoretical idea that the midpoint between this person's Venusโ€”always the same planetโ€”this person's Venus and person A and person B, their Venuses, you take, you do a calculation, you find their midpoint, and then that's their mutual Venus, okay? You do this with every single planet. Sun-Sun, Mars-Mars, Mercury-Mercury, ascendant-ascendant.

And then you have a decision to make, which is that this does represent the entity, the resulting chart represents the relationship as an entity separate from them. It's the relationship chart. The problem here is which side do you put the midpoint? And if your ascendants are reverse, in other words, they'reโ€”then you'd find the midpoint. Say one had an ascendant at Aries and one had their ascendant in Libra, the midpoint will be either Capricorn or Cancer. So do you give a Cancer rising or do you give a Capricorn rising? You could do either. Get an entirely reverse chart.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: So this is based on hypotheses, theory, and the question is, do you have a third chart that represents the relationship? Now, people who use the systemโ€”I know one person very wellโ€”she prefers it to synastry. She thinks it works very, very well. I feel it's a good adjunct chart. It does not describe the intimate nuances between the parts of the two people. It cannot do that.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: Intimate connections and harmonies, disharmonies between all of your little parts of your being, which is what the chart shows, it doesn't show that. But what it can do is give a second testimony on is that relationship gonna work better than you thoughtโ€”

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: โ€”or worse than you thought. Now, my friend, she would answer that previous question you had about incompatible relationships. She would say, “Well, that's usually because the composite chart is so good.” You have a great composite chart and lousy internal chemistry, it'll help a lot. Hmm. Because it can represent the goal or what the relationship can be as a unit, as if we were one person.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: Now, the fact is we are not one person. So I'm a very logical, skeptical kind of gal. Always have been. That's why I'm in research. But it's as if you were one person. And people claim it works a great deal. They like it. But it's a lot harder to do. You need to know your calculations. You need to choose which end of the composite you will use, what ascendant they will have. So it is much more difficult, and it's not as immediately accessible.

So I prefer synastry, but if I have a lot of time and where two people are getting married, I will use their composite midpoints, like their Venus midpoint, and if it falls on something in the natal chart of one or the other, very important.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: It'll kick it up a notch, as Emeril, the chef always says. Let's kick it up a notch. So, you know, your mutual Venuses are right on someone's moon. Well, they're getting a little more love, love bomb there.

Amanda: Nice.

Judith: I will use it, but when I'm actually looking at the chart straight up, you know, I've got a reading. Should I use this realtor? Should I use this surgeon? Should I hire this lawyer? Should I marry this guy? I immediately get almost everything I need from the synastry. Mm. If I have a lot of time, I'll do a composite to get another testimony, see what I can find.

Like Attracts Like or Opposites Attract?

Amanda: Do you think like attracts like or opposites attract?

Judith: That's a good question, Amanda. I would say it varies from person to person. Some people are very attracted to their opposite, and they're always marrying someone from another cultureโ€”

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: โ€”or some other religion, and some people wanna be with the same. They justโ€”

Amanda: And can you see that? Like, can you see that proclivity in the chart?

Judith: Yes, you can. Such as one example would be people who have Sagittarius on their seventh house.

Amanda: Hm.

Judith: Or the ruler of theโ€”that's the house of marriage, the seventh, or the ruler, or the fifth, love, and the ruler of the seventh in the ninth house, house of travel and foreign and foreigners. They're gonna be attracted to people who are very different thanโ€”

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: โ€”what they grew up with or their home environment.

Amanda: Yeah.

Judith: Um, but say you have the ruler of the seventh in your first or in the fourth, you know, a person might wanna be with someone that reminds them of Mom or reminds them of Dad. And you'll find Cancer, Cancer rising will do this a bit. Not in every case, you know, but there is a big difference in people.

Astrology & Divorce

Amanda: Hmm. In my book, I talk about my divorce.

Judith: Yes. Andโ€”

Amanda: Life byโ€”

Judith: โ€”the Stars. Lifeโ€”

Amanda: โ€”by the Stars. Yes, yes. Yes, yes, yes. Thank you, Judith. And in that, I talk about how I went to three different astrologers, and all three of them confirmed that it… ‘Cause I was in denial that I was going through a divorce. Oh. But all three astrologers confirmed just based on the charts of not just me but my former husband and my children that it looked like I was going through a divorce. So I'm wondering if there are… Okay, when we're looking at synastry, have you seen any signatures that indicate that they'll probably end up divorced, and/or are there certain transits that can indicate that a divorce is more or less likely?

Judith: Oh, yes. Both. So if a person, even if they're in a very good marriage, and Uranus is coming to the seventh cusp, this is just one.

Amanda: Hm.

Judith: Uh, they should be prepared for a major spin where they're gonna be asked to be very independent or grow. If they do not accept the independence of a partner, they might be in trouble. If you work with the planet, it won't tend to cause a divorce. Uranus upsets roles, role-related relationship like, you know, you've gotta be the cook, I'm gonna be the breadwinner. That doesn't work when Uranus is coming along by transit. Um, Saturn going through the seventh will always test the marriage. If you can live through it, the marriage will be stronger and maybe last another 30 years.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: It will reduce, um, the libido effect. You know, people should be married, uh, you know, after two years, the steam goes out of the kettle a little bit and you see what you have. ‘Cause people get married, you know, in a… You know that song, uh, uh, We Got Married in a Fever, that Johnny Cash song?

Amanda: I don't know, butโ€”

Judith: Jackson, Jackson. I like you singing… the song, Jackson, “Hotter Than a Pepper Sprout. We've been talking about Jackson ever since the fire went out.”

Amanda: Mm. Mm.

Judith: So, you know, you give it time. Now, Saturn will reduce the fire, but test the real marriage.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: Your souls love each other. That's more important. Are you intellectually compatible? So Saturn tests things for two and a half years. How lucky can we be? Um, and it will do it often by squaring the ruler of the 7th, or on Venus will do it, too. Sometimes on Mars. Depends on what, uh, gender we prefer, so forth.

Mm. So the eclipses going through the 7th house, uh, usually the South Node will produce a tendency for not enough energy for your relationship or your partner is having troubles. They're unemployed, or they've gotten ill, or they're sitting around on the sofa smoking pot all day. You know, South Node isn't very productive, and usually you have to be the strong one in the relationship becauseโ€”

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Judith: โ€”the Node will be on your side. So something goes on there. Um, now natally, there's… Now, this will happen, we're talking about transits right now. That means current. If that is happening, it will be temporary, but a lot of people don't make it through a two-year issue or whatever. But if it's natal, now some natal charts absolutely show a tendency for great difficulty in marriage.

You often see women with a tendency to pick deceptive men. Mm. Um, maybe it's 'cause most of my clients are women, 80%, as are for most astrologers. You know, most clients are women. And you get this all the time, and they just keep going for it over and over and over again. You know, users and things like that.

Or sometimes it shows a dangerous situation, a tendency to be attracted to dangerous people. Hmm. There are people who are. They love to write people in prison. I don't know why, but there's a lot of men to choose from. Why are you doing that? They like to dance on a cliff.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: And so you will see this in the chart, and it will often indicate divorces. And, you know, divorce at 50% now? Soโ€”

Amanda: Yeah.

Judith: โ€”you know, most people have some difficulty. In the past you were just glued together and you'd have to hire the local poison seller in Italy. That is literally how women got out of those marriages.

Amanda: What? Really?

Judith: Yeah, they had poison sellers in the streets of Italy because women were stuck in marriages they couldn't get out of.

Amanda: Oh, my God.

Judith: And that's where we get the word venom. Venus. So Venus was originally, venom actually meant a love potion, but it became associated with poison because the poison sellers would sell it along with their love potions.

Amanda: Oh my God. Wow.

Judith: Venom, venomous, venal, and Venus. So interesting, huh? Yes. So, but anyway, most charts will show some kind of issue with others. Most charts. Mm. Every now and then you meet some divinely blessed person who's gonna meet the love of their life, and it'll be with them their whole life. I've seen this. Loveโ€”

Amanda: Me too. Yeah.

Judith: Yeah. And there's usually something in the chart you'll see. You'll often see something like Venus in an earth or water sign, like Taurus or Pisces, in the 7th house. The moon is nicely aspected. Mm. And their chart has to be compatible, 'cause I've seen men who have an absolute peach of a wife, but they're a person who likes excitement and runs off with the secretary.

Hmm. I knew a guy who had four kids and a beautiful, wonderful wife, and he ran off with a younger woman and left her with all the kids. And, you know, my father was just going, “How could he have done that? She's a peach.” And, um, but this happens. This happens. So the person is as important as what they have in their 7th.

Amanda: Hmm. So seventh is where you would look. So I have Saturn in my seventh, so that would be a good sign thatโ€”

Judith: It can be if it's in a good… It can mean a love of older people, or looking to the partner for, uh, steadiness, or the partner becomes the rock, the steadying person in the relationship, if it's good, and if you like Saturn. Now, the thing isโ€”

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Judith: โ€”what is in your seventh is usually what you want or need to fulfill yourself.

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Judith: In most cases, unless it's your own ruler. That can happen. But you're usually missing something of that quality, and you're wanting it.

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Judith: And so you're attracted to the planets in your seventh. I have a whole spiel about that in my book. You know, what planets are in your seventh, what planets rule your seventh. So the seventh ruler and the planets in it will often describe the type of mate and what is inhabiting, what is tenanting your house of marriage, and then also what is the circumstances of marriage you meet.

The seventh doubles as the house of return karma. You throw a ball and it bounces back. It's a very karmic house, and that's what, you know, that can feed into. Uh, Saturn can mean a lot of things, a lot of things. My grandmother had Saturn in the seventh, and she outlived five partners, five marriages. She always outlived them. Yeah. And I just thought that was an interesting use of Saturn. Instead of it being longevity, rather she outlived them.

Amanda: Wow.

Judith: She didn't have a single cavity in her life. You know, Saturn rules bones. Perfect bones. It was in Capricorn. So everything is unique to the person. Mm-hmm. So the astrologer gains a nuance in skill as they practice.

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Judith: And that's why, you know, cookbook astrology has its uses, but still every chart is a little different.

How to Mitigate Challenges

Amanda: Yeah. So what can show… So you said if there is kind of some fundamental incompatibilities, you mentioned one sort of antidote to this with your example of the people that were married 30 years and were very anchored in spirituality. So it was almost like they were transcending some of the personality things that can be really problematic. What other kind of antidotes or mediators can be used to address a challenging connection?

Judith: Well, first you look at the chart and you see if there's some correctives. And let's say, let's have a doozy. Let's takeโ€”I always love that wordโ€”um, let's take somebody's Mars is conjunct the other one's Saturn. That's always really difficult. Mm-hmm. That means the Mars person is pushing the Saturn's buttons or rules, and the Saturn feels suppressive and controlling to the Mars person.

Yeah. It's especially difficult in fixed signs. But let's say that it's in Leo. And so then we look at the Sun for each person, 'cause each one would have Mars in Leo, one would have Saturn in Leo. We look at the what's called the depositor, the ruler of the sign the planet is in. The landlord. Mm. Think of the planet as the tenant.

What if both of them have a sun, and their suns are exactly trine. That will correct that to some degree. It means the background values behind their problem will be very harmonious. Uh, if it's on one of their part of fortunes or place of happiness, it'll help. But then the people themselves, if they're willing…

They have a problem that the astrologer identifies. If they're willing to either work with the problem, 'cause the astrologer can describe what it is, what are the mechanics behind it, and where it is. But if they find an activity that goes with the energy, it will help very, very much. Such as, say, one of them has Pluto exactly on the other one's Mercury in Scorpio, and so the Mercury person is always feeling that the Pluto is looking right into their mind like an X-ray.

And but if the two of them took up a research project together, like let's go be a paleontologist, or go find gems or something, or let's study something in great depth together, uh, this will give an outlet for that energy. Mm. If you use it, it doesn't tend to hit you. So there's lots of ways to look at it.

If you have an obstinate partner who nothing's ever wrong with them, it's always you, and I'm not the one at fault, I don't want any counseling, and they will not change, well, this is a problem for everyone. So the person who's feeling the problem either has to accept it completely, leave, or change their attitude.

Focus on something else about the person they like. Mental changing, uh, emotional changing. And if the problem isn't real bad, uh, usually you can find a workaround, or learn to appreciate the problem. I mean, I've learned to do that. I have friends that do things I do not understand, but I'll focus on something that they teach me or that I really like about them.

Amanda: Yeah.

Judith: I'll just focus on that, and the problem goes away.

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Judith: You know, we all have a mental TV screen. Mm. But the chart can show you these little tiny nuances.

Amanda: It's amazing. Okay, so tell us, so November 17th, you're teaching a three-hour workshop.

Judith: Yes.

Amanda: It's gonna be based on the things you teach in your book, which by the way, everybody, go pick up Judith's book. Oh. If you wanna showโ€” Do you wanna show us the cover?

Judith's Course

Judith: Yeah, it's got a beautiful cover.

Amanda: Oh, great. And this is Judith's what? 15th book or 14th book?

Judith: 16th.

Amanda: 16th book. Yeah. I mean, wow. Prolific. So yes, go check that out. Where can they get that? Is that …

Judith: It's on Amazon.

Amanda: Okay.

Judith: Uh, probably at Barnes & Noble. Uh, you know, it's on most sites now. Um, however, it's not in e-books. If you see any e-books, those are pirates. Don't buy them, please. Mm. Uh, we have that endless problem. So Amazon is carrying it, and, um, Barnes & Noble if you don't prefer Amazon, so.

Amanda: Very nice. Okay. And so then the workshop will be based on a lot of the ideas in the book. Judith will be teaching it live. You'll have an opportunity to ask questions, so it should be very lively. Um, and so Judith, can you go through, like, what is the structure of that workshop? What will we be covering?

Judith: Yes. I'm going to first go into some very basic principles, and then we're going to look at the top six most important indicia, they call it in science, uh, that you would look at for high compatibility. Almost necessary. You have to have at least two of them for a, you know, lifetime marriage. Mm. Then four more, which I call four more essentials. Then we look at the deal breakers. I have a list of deal breakers, and corrections, how to do corrections. If we have … This is gonna maybe take up the three hours.

If we have time, I will be going into how to compare four elements and what that means. You know, if you're all fire and they're all water, and how to really know that, because that's another thing. People do element counts wrong. Mm. Because, say you have nothing in water at all except Saturn.

Saturn is the least watery of planets. It's cold, it's stiff, it's hard. That becomes frozen water or stagnant water. You, youโ€”

Amanda: Oh.

Judith: โ€”count it as negative water, not a one.

Amanda: Oh, wow. Fascinating.

Judith: Yeah, it almost follows medical astrology. Or say you have, um, nothing in fire except the south node, which is a weak point. Then you have minus one to fire, not oneโ€”

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: โ€”even weaker. Where, say, Mars in water, Mars boils water. Water's emotion, so if you have Mars in water, you'll be even more emotional.

Amanda: Wow.

Judith: So I've developed a nuanced system of very accurately, really tallying up what your expression of that element will really be, and I'm hoping we'll have time for that in the third hour.

Amanda: Oh, my gosh. That is fascinating. I literally don't think I've ever heard an astrologer talking about that.

Judith: They don't. They don't even bring it up in medical. I've had to pretty much invent this system knowing the energetics of planets and elements, and how they actually work working them on bodies, and then finally making a graph.

‘Cause people, when they practice, uh, TCM, Ayurveda, they work with these energies, but they don't give them names. Medical astrologers work with elements and planets, but nobody's put it together with any thought or a graphโ€”

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: โ€”just how this works.

Amanda: Nice.

Judith: So I've given names for them, like, you know, Saturn in water can be frozen or stagnant water. It traps water. Mars in water is boiling water. And, you know, so these change the elements they're in. And people tell me it works very, very well. So we'll hopefully have time to learn that.

Amanda: Yes. Let's just make sure we have time to learn that. That sounds amazing, really.

Judith: Okay. I will add that to the site.

Amanda: That's, um, astrologyhub.com/compatibility. Registration's open, so if you wanna join us, this is a great time to do it. Um, you would get in on our live class pricing, which is always the best price that we offer, so we would love for you to join us for that. Again, that's astrologyhub.com/compatibility.

I have a question about the lunar nodes. Are they included in the system? In, in theโ€”

Judith: Yes.

Amanda: Oh, in the 10 things?

Judith: Oh, well, they're not included in the 10 things. They have an entire chapter devoted to them on conjunctions and squares in the book. So they are very, very important, though if you don't have a conjunction with someone's north node, uh, you can still have a perfectly good relationship.

So those are not included in the essentials, the essential 10. They're real nice to have sometimes, and they're real not nice to have sometimes.

Amanda: Mm.

Dealbreakers

Judith: Some of our deal breakers, uh, come under the, um, south node in particular conjunctions, but sometimes north nodes. Say example, if… North node's usually thought of as good, but if you're thinking realistically, we look at planets through energy.

So Mars brings athletic ability, temper, libido. Say the boyfriend has Mars in Sagittarius, on his ascendant, and he's real Marsy. He loves to race around on his bicycle. He's very, very high libido. He's full of beans and energy, and he's got this Mars, but he's also got a bad temper, and he's got his Mars exactly on his partner's north node. Well, he'll be very energizing.

We'll have lots of fun together, very passionate. But if he got angry, it could be very dangerous because too much Mars comes in at the north node. North node is where energy enters. Too much Mars. And so sometimes you have to look at things very energetically. Well, how does this actually work? I took a brief stint as a bike mechanic in my youth, and it was very valuable.

I learned how to do mechanics.

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: And it's informed my thinking evermore. I always think that people who have knowledge of music, mechanics, or cooking make very good astrologers.

Amanda: Oh, that's fascinating. I've definitely seen the musical correlation, but I like that, mechanics and also cooking. Wow.

Judith: And also to some degree, law. Law teaches your mind to think extremely judiciously.

Amanda: Right.

Judith: That's for the nerdly astrologer.

Amanda: Right.

Judith: So I'm a bit of all of it. Uh, but so something that appears to be good sometimes isn't. Mm. Things come in at the north node very powerfully. But the south node is typically a problem.

It typically causes the person problems. Either side, either side. Say a person has Saturn on somebody's south node. Uh, this is not usually recommended unless corrected for long-term relationships or going and buying a farm together because Saturn goes down a toilet bowl on the south node. Your life work goes, you know, it's like, “It's a fine time to leave me, Lucille,” that song, you know.

Amanda: Wow.

Judith: Five kids, and I've got the fields ready to harvest, and you're gone. That's Saturn on the south node. Oof. But really bad for the Saturn person. But it also can mean that the south node person has a problem because south node has all to do with past karma and memory imprints. Now, the Saturn person can help them become very aware of those past issues, like become aware of your past life orโ€”

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: โ€”be a good person to steady you if you're having some kind of subconscious trauma come up. Mm. It's an old memory pattern, the south node. But it can also mean that they're totally freaking you out because of some old karma, or they seem very cold, and you were in the Inquisition together, and they were the Inquisitor.

You know, so you have to look at the whole chart to determine if it's going to go a little more negative or positive, and you talk to the client. “How is this working out for you?” But if you just were… You know, people used to come into my office and, you know, “Hey, what do you think? Do you think he's the guy for me?”

And they hardly know him, you know? And, you know, so I would get to identify a few deal breakers. And then I'd look for, see long-term marriages. But these are really good if you're looking for, uh, like a realtor or a surgeon or a lawyer. Like, if you're looking for a surgeon, you would never pick a surgeon who had Mars or Mercury on your south node. Huge tendency to make a big error. Marsโ€”

Amanda: What'd you say, Mars or who?

Judith: Mars or Mercury on your south node.

Amanda: Mm. And,

Judith: uh, that Mars is the surgeon's knife. Mercury is his hand skill and his judgment, and I itemize this all in one of my books. I have a whole thing on surgeon-doctor compatibility. Butโ€”

Amanda: Mm.

Judith: โ€”the, um, you really wanna be careful in that situation. And, but sometimes it means something very good. I have one couple where the man's Mars is on the woman's South Node, and he does a whole lot of free work for her. Always helping her, carpentry, massage, anything she wants. So it's a debt payment point.

Mars is muscle. Mars is muscle. So sometimes it works well, but most of the time, especially if you're hiring a surgeon, uh, or if you had to buy a dog, I would not pick a dog born on a day if their Mars was on your South Node, 'cause Mars rules dogs. South Node rules loss. And so they're going to cost you a lot of money, or they're going to run away, or get sick, or eat a…

One dog I know ate a grommet and had to go to the hospital. Dogs do all kinds of silly things. So, you know, this is very useful information.

Amanda: Wow.

Judith: But you doโ€”

Amanda: Wow.

Judith: โ€”you do tweak it according to what you are working on.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: You know, this couple, this pairing is different from this pairing.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: And you have to see how big a deal it is.

Amanda: Judith, who's the perfect student for this workshop? Like, is, if you, do you need to have… You basically need to know how to read a chart as much as possible, right?

Judith: You would need to know what the symbols look like for the planets.

Amanda: Okay.

Judith: So know your symbols. You can, if you can look at a chart and you can say, “Oh, Mars is in Cancer. Oh, Saturn's in Gemini,” you can do this class.

Amanda: Okay.

Judith: And I will do a little review of how to see aspects if you want me to, Amanda, how to see a squareโ€”

Amanda: Yeah.

Judith: โ€”see a trineโ€”

Amanda: Yeah.

Judith: โ€”see a quincunx. We'll do a quick review at the start on how to tell. You know, and my book has graphs that just show what signs are compatible. Just takes no work at all.

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Judith: So if you can just look at a chart and you can see what planets are in what signs, you're good to go.

Amanda: Okay. Yeah. So you don't have to necessarily even know how to synthesize that information. You just have to be able to pick it out on the chart. Yeah.

Judith: Okay. You can look at the chart and you say, “Oh, there's my moon. It's in Aquarius. I know what the Aquarius symbol is, I know what the moon symbol is, and I can see that.” And there's usually a little graph that tells you it anyway. And if you can do that, you don't have to worry about houses in this workshop, uh, just signs, planets, but you should be able to look at your chart.

I've got Mars in Gemini. I've got Jupiter in Leo. That's all you need to be able to do.

Amanda: Okay. And what, uh… Do they need any software for it, or is it…

Judith: Um, well, if they want to, uh, do it, my system is so easy to just do by hand, just print out the charts and eyeball it. Mm. But I'm sure there are all kinds of programs that do synastry.

Amanda: Right.

Judith: And also, um, we do have a textbook, and that's this.

Amanda: Right.

Judith: They can follow along for the meanings.

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Judith: I've got all the meanings. I've got pretty big descriptions, they're not small, on the meanings. They give you a lot of detail. And so you can take two charts, put them side by side. And, and it'll, and I will teach you what to compare.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: What firstโ€”

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: โ€”what second, what third. We'll do the top 10, then we'll do some deal breakers. We'll talk about the nodes. We will then go into elements. That's what I'm hoping to do in three hours.

Amanda: Amazing. Okay, so you want them to come with their chart and the chart of somebody. Yes. And it doesn't have to be a romantic relationship, right?

Judith: Nope. Right.

Amanda: Could be your mom. It could be anybody that you wanna look at the compatibility with.

Judith: Yeah.

Amanda: Yes.

Judith: Of course, people will bring the person they have a crush on. But that's everybody's interest. But you can do your child. Uhโ€”

Amanda: Right.

Judith: โ€”the information, um, when you're comparing romance, the thing is, in the ABC, I've given sexual compatibility, Mars, Venus, is number four in importance for a longโ€”

Amanda: Wow.

Judith: โ€”relationship. Other people don't want a long-term, that's number one. Okay, but if you were doing parent and child, Mars, Venus is not gonna be in the top 10 necessarily.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: Um, because you're wanting more Mercury, Jupiter. You're wanting an exchange of knowledge. You're wanting Saturn, Moon. You're wanting support of the body and feeding. You want love, motherly love, Venus, Moon. You know? There's different… The stack of what I consider important will shift.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: We'll talk a little about that. So, but my top 10 are really good for major relationships.

Amanda: Okay. This is gonna be so much fun.

Judith: Yeah.

Amanda: Whenever we do workshops with you, they're highly popular. Everybody loves them. So we're so grateful to have you teaching again on this platform, and everybody go check it out.

And if you have curiosity, if this has piqued your interest, if you're like, “Ooh, that'd be so fun to go deeper with,” definitely recommend checking it out. Again, astrologyhub.com/compatibility. You can order this, Judith's book, and maybe even have it in time as a reference as we go through that workshop.

That would be really cool. Um, so that is, again, the name of Judith's book is The Astrologer's Love Book. That's a great name, Judith. It's so cute. Oh. The Astrologer's Love Book.

Judith: And it has a subtitle which describes it, A Complete Method of Compatibility Assessment. And I do guarantee, Amanda, they won't find this information anywhere else in this manner. It's completely unique.

Amanda: Amazing. Amazing.

Judith: And based on decades of doing, uh, couples of all possible persuasions and genders, setting marriage dates, picking realtors, picking lawyers, picking surgeons for many decades.

Amanda: Well, and Judith has the mind of a researcher. So when you're doing decades of those kinds of readings, you are, like, in a constant state of research, is what I've seen from you in your medical approach, in this as well. Like, you're always trying to find a way to quantify and demonstrate the accuracy of astrology as a tool.

Judith: Yes. I spent 10 years in the statistical research of astrology and doing seismic and genetic work, and today I'm the NCGR SIG group leader for medical astrology empirical proofs.

Amanda: And you guys just proved medical astrology, right? That you were telling me about that.

Judith: We've had three successful, uh, initial studies that worked, and we always have to be very conservative. And so I came up with a hypothesis that if we had… If I could find a few highly experienced, fully qualified medical astrologers, and I say we're as rare as snow leopardsโ€”

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: โ€”and if I found them. I found six by a very stiff questionnaire, that if I presented them with charts of two non-comorbid diseases, very different diseases, they would be able to match them at a group average of 70% or above, and an individual average of 60% or above. And we did three separate exams, and they all passed the hypothesis.

Amanda: Andโ€”Okay. So let me just make sure I understand. So they were looking at chartsโ€”

Judith: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: โ€”and they had to guess, or not guess, assess, based on the chart, what the disease was for the person.

Judith: Yes. For example, the first test, and all the data came from a clinic with, um, histories and declarations by the attending physician. And so the first test was seven kidney failures and seven lung cancers, and as a group they hit 70%, and nobody got below the, um, you know, below, I think it was 59%.

Amanda: You mean they were able to see the kidney failure, or they were able to see the lungโ€”

Judith: Yes, they were, the lung cancer. They were able to, to, to, uh, separate the charts to knowโ€”

Amanda: Ah.

Judith: โ€”who, and these were very difficult. The chart, it was a lot more difficult than it could have been. They had a lot of difficulties, so we did it again. We gave them five MS cases against five uterine cancers, and they did it again. Group average 70%. Three got 80%.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: Then the next case was very different. I gave them three charts. Two were a skin disease. One was a stroke with the date of the stroke. And that was one choice in three, and four out of six of them got it, and the fifth had a dyslexic moment and she said she sent me the wrong choice by accident. We would've had five out of six, but we had to do four out of six.

That was double what it should have been statistically. Wow. So three positive results, but more than that, their choices had such a strong internal consistency, this could not have been chance. Two of them picked all 25 choices exactly the sameโ€”

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: โ€”of six people. Two more almost did.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: There's no way they could throw pennies all day and never get results that close to each other.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: Knowing that the results were, uh, a result of educative thought. And so three times in a row, the hypothesis succeeded. Hmm. But to be conservative, and you have to be, these were three tests, and you could keep going and amass a lot more, and we're working on doing some other tests coming up here.

Amanda: Thank you. Thank you for doing that work, because as you know, uh, astrology can be scrutinized quite a bit and put into a category of, you know, sort of woo, woo, throw it away. So it's amazing to have people like you who are actually doing, like, empirical studies thatโ€”

Judith: Yeah.

Amanda: โ€”can hold their own weight and show that this isn't just, you know, something to throw out.

Judith: Well, and I should mention, Amanda, that I'm not doing this alone. I'm working with, uh, a person named Kai Jones, who's an amazing statistician. Yeah. Very helpful in every process. She's the assistant director to the NCGR. Mm. She's also the moderator of my group. Mm-hmm. ‘Cause she's good with everything, and we're really working this out.

But the real wonderful thing about this, this is one of the very first successes that's been now triply done, we did three, showing horoscopic astrology, holistic reading skills succeeding. You know, something is going on. This could not have happened by accident.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: And we were very careful. None of the test subjects knew the clinic.

Amanda: Hmm.

Judith: None of them knew each other. I kept everything secret. And, uh, so we were as careful as we could with the data.

Amanda: So good.

Judith: Yeah.

Amanda: Amazing. Judith, thank you so much for everything you've shared with us here today. I know people are probably already looking at charts and trying to figure things out.

This is just so useful. And, uh, like you said, it goes beyond our romantic relationships, not that those are, those are of paramount importance, of course, and there are so many relationships and so many things to look into with this. So thank you for being here on the podcast. Thank you for teaching with us on November 17th.

Everybody go check it out. Can't wait to see you all at that class. And Judith, is there anything that you want to leave us with before we close out?

Judith: Oh, I just want to say thank you for the opportunity, and if I have time, I'll even give you some tips on how to look for compatibility with a pet.

Amanda: Oh, my God. It's so amazing. I mean, honestly, we have, uh, someone on our team who has a pet that she's like, “Why did I get this dog?” Like, this dog is like the, the, like, not affectionate. There's no, like, chemistry. You know, and she just wanted, like, a snuggly dog, but like that's not what she got. Yeah. So it's really interesting to, um, think about pet compatibility. Like, yeah.

Judith: I've helped people pick horses and dogs based onโ€”

Amanda: Wow.

Judith: I even helped… One couple even had a choice of which of three children to adopt.

Amanda: Mm. Wow.

Judith: Both parents, and I picked the one I thought would be the biggest love connection for them.

Amanda: Mm. Wow, that's a huge one. Geez. Yeah. Yeah.

Judith: You can use this information anywhere. Yeah. Always, we always have the best interviews, and you always ask the best questions.

Amanda: Thank you. Yeah. You bring it out in me, Judith. You're so interesting. You're endlessly fascinating to me. So thank you for just sharing all your wisdom with us here. Thanks to all of you for tuning in, for being a part of our community, for making astrology a part of your life.

Cannot wait to connect with you on the next episode, and hopefully in Judith's class. We're gonna put that link in the show notes, so check it out. All right. Take care, everybody.
