[00:00:00] Welcome to the astrology hub podcast. I'm Amanda Poole Walsh, founder of astrology hub and your host for our flagship show. We explore the many ways astrology can support you and your relationships, career, health, and personal growth. Thanks for tuning in.
Amanda: Hello everybody and welcome. I am so happy that you're here that you've decided to join us for this broadcast today We are going to be talking about how You can use astrology to help you pick a career path. And, before we dive in, our Health, Wealth, and Fulfillment Workshop Series is in full swing.
We had Judith Hill teaching for three hours on the 12 zodiac signs in medical astrology. And so how you can actually start to look at your chart and understand your body and your health. [00:01:00] From an astrological perspective and one of the things I love that she taught me was that so many of the physical ailments that we have have energetic predecessors and so understanding the energetics behind what's happening in your body through So Astrology and through your astrology chart can be very, very helpful in helping you, you know, find the root cause of some of the things that are happening in your body.
And then also find ways to work with that and eventually hopefully fix it. So that is in full effect right now. And Michael Bryan, who is an astrologer and author, an amazing human being. Who's here as our guest today is going to be teaching next week, and he's going to be focusing on fulfillment. So how you can actually find fulfillment in your chart.
And that's why we wanted to come on here today and talk about your career because fulfillment and career aren't necessarily the same thing. And you can have a lot of fulfillment in your life, whether or not you have a career that you're. Super excited about. But in [00:02:00] my own experience, and I'm sure, Michael, for you, too, and I'm sure for many of you, it is kind of the pinnacle to be able to have a career that is really aligned and in so doing experience even more fulfillment in your life.
So we're going to be talking about that here today. Specifically, we're going to explore how astrology influences career choices and the unique insights that astrology has to offer when it comes to your career. Some ethical considerations, some ethical considerations. So if you're someone that's actually looking at charts, looking at other people's charts, what do you need to keep in mind when you're helping to guide people in their career choices.
And then also some considerations in the modern work environment. So we're going to bring astrology into the modern times. And you know, a lot of us are working from home now. So how does that influence the way that we're looking at the charts? And Michael, I just want to welcome you to the show. Thank you for being here.
Mychal: Thank you so much, Amanda. I'm always happy to join you.
Amanda: Awesome. [00:03:00] All right. And if you're interested in joining the Health, Wealth, and Fulfillment Workshop series, you go to astrologyhub. com slash workshop. You are not too late. You didn't miss, um, any, well, you missed the live broadcast, but you can still get the recording.

Amanda: astrology hub. com slash workshop, check it out. See if you'd like to join us and Michael, let's start with, with career.
First House As A Starting Point
Amanda: How can astrology help someone determine the right path for them?
Mychal: That's a great question, Amanda. I think that in general, astrology is meant to help all of us orient ourselves while we travel through this earthly experience. And when we look at the chart from a traditional perspective, which as a background, my main astrological framework or my primary astrological framework is traditional astrology.
[00:04:00] And then on top of that, I also integrate Uranian Astrology and Cosmobiology, because I find that these three systems work very well together. So I'm going to talk about this first of all from a traditional perspective. Traditionally speaking, the first place we start reading a chart from is the first house, which is pretty obvious that if there are 12 houses, you'd start reading a chart from the first house.
And the reason why that's such an important thing for us to do is because the first house allows us to know Who we are within this lifetime, and it also allows us to know what our primary motivations are within this lifetime. So one of the questions that is very important for us to hold within ourselves as we read the chart is to first ask ourselves.
Who is the person who actually is living this lived experience through this particular horoscope? So, in other words, who is the person who has this chart and how are they wearing that as their [00:05:00] astral clothing as they move throughout this lifetime? And very largely, traditionally speaking, we get those answers.
From the 1st house, the sign on the cusp of the 1st house can be an entry point, but very quickly after that, we start to assess the aspects of the 1st house cusp planets within the 1st house, the rule of the 1st house aspects to the rule of the 1st house house location of the rule of the 1st house.
Because after you've done all of these things in relationship to not just the First House itself, but also to the rule of the First House, you have a very robust understanding of who that person is, who you're sitting down in the front of, and who you're giving that reading to. And that's really the most important thing that we can do as astrologers.
The very first skill that any… Practicing astrologers should have as an astrologer working with clients is we have to first be able to identify the soul and the psyche of that person within the context of their birth chart. [00:06:00] And if we aren't able to do that, but we're able to do everything else. Then we would have missed out on the actual core of our interpretation, which is first of all, who are you?
Because only after we know who you are as a person, can we then start to talk about how you will find fulfillment in the various spheres of your life. Whether that's romantic, whether that's in terms of your family or if that's in terms of your career.
Is There Ever An Element of Surpise?
Amanda: Michael, how often are you surprised? Like when you sit down and look at a chart and you kind of get a picture of who you think this person is, and then they walk in the door, are you usually surprised or usually not surprised?
Mychal: This is an even better question, because I think that if we look at the chart, we have a very clear internal understanding of who that person is, what their chief operating system is going to be in this lifetime, how they're going to present. And I think for me, because I practice such concrete. Astrology and a part of practicing concrete [00:07:00] astrology sometimes goes into the the physiognomy or how that person actually looks because within traditional astrology, we have thousands of years of describing a person's physical features and that sort of thing.
So I think that I'm often more surprised in terms of what I expect that person to look like. Based on the traditional perspective, but I'm less surprised based on how that person actually communicates and how that person actually presents themselves. So I think that there are certain biases that we have in traditional astrology just based on the physical appearance of a person.
But I think even deeper than that, when that person actually starts to communicate who they are, they're really, I'm never really, really, really surprised. And I mean, sometimes, you know, within every astrologer's practice, we're not. Gods, we don't really know everything. So sometimes there are people who present very differently from how I specifically interpreted their chart, but I blame myself for that.
It's not a matter [00:08:00] of something's wrong with the astrology. It's a matter of, I chose to go down a particular interpretive pathway that prevented me from seeing Other potential possibility is so I dare say 80 percent of the time who I see is exactly who I'm expecting to see, but 20 percent of the time I am genuinely surprised in terms of my particular interpretation of who they are versus how they actually present in the world.
Amanda: Interesting. Okay.
Where to Look in the Chart for Career
Amanda: So you talked, you talked about first house as far as career goes. Is there anything else that you're really honing in on when someone's asking you a career? choice question.
Mychal: When someone's asking about their career choice. So the default and the politically correct answer would be that we should assess their 10, 000 what's going on in their 10, 000 where the rule of their 10, 000 aspects to the rule of their 10, 000 planets in the 10, 000 in general, the highest elevated planet in your chart is going to [00:09:00] have a major impact on how you navigate yourself through the world.
In general. So if you have planets in the 11th house, but those planets are the highest elevated planets in your chart, then those planets are going to impact how you navigate yourself in the world in general. If you have planets in the 9th house, and those planets are the highest elevated planets in your chart, then those planets are going to impact how you navigate the world in general.
Specifically, or particularly, if we have planets within the 10th house, then that's even more so the case, especially if we have a planet conjunct the midheaven. From a Uranian astrology perspective, the midheaven has to do with the self. Because the midheaven corresponds specifically with our moment of birth, Whereas the Ascendant corresponds with our location of birth.
So from a Uranian astrology perspective, the Ascendant has more to do with the formative early environmental factors that impacted who [00:10:00] we are as people. But from a Uranian astrology perspective, the Midheaven is who we are within this lifetime. So if a person is having a planet conjunct their midheaven, exactly conjunct their midheaven, then that planet, in a sense, becomes a totem for how that person navigates themselves through the world, and it becomes their calling card in terms of how they present themselves in all spheres of their lives.
And I think that this is even true if we have other planets that are in hard aspects to the Midheaven. And the reason why I speak about the hard aspects, so that could be the square, or the semi square, or the sasquicuadrate. We could even say the opposition, even though if a planet is opposite your Midheaven.
It's kind of not the most intelligent thing to say, because if it's opposite your midheaven, that means it's conjunct your IC. So when we're talking about aspects of the angles, we never really talk about them in terms of the opposition. Something's either conjunct your ascendant or conjunct your descendant, but it's not conjunct your descendant and opposite your ascendant.
So the point is, if we [00:11:00] have planets that are very deeply involved in a person's angles, but particularly in a person's Midheaven axis, then that becomes a major part of how that person is representing themselves within this lifetime. Now, there's another piece to this. So the politically correct answer was, you check out the person's 10, 000 because that's what's been done since time immemorial, you check out the person's 10, 000.
However, I think that that's a very compartmentalized way to go about it. Because very often we aren't just what's going on in our 10, 000 and our career isn't just what's going on based on the rule of our 10, 000 very often our career would be gravitate towards most strongly manifests as a result of the very tight planetary combinations that occur within our chart.
So somebody could have, say, for example, Mercury Venus in conjunction, which is something that I really like to talk about, the Mercury Venus conjunction, [00:12:00] because that tends to give people a poetic leaning in life, where they tend to have a beautiful voice, they have a very good way with words, they know how to convince people based on their words, they know how to make people feel loved and held in terms of how they communicate, so they could be a very good storyteller, a very good singer songwriter, but definitely also a very good poet.
People who have the conjunction of the Venus and Mercury, or even the parallel, of Venus and Mercury as well, can deliver that same sort of thing. However, that's the truth, whether or not Venus is ruling their ascendant, and whether or not Mercury is ruling some other house within their chart.
That is the truth, just based on those two planets in a very strong relationship. Another one that I really like. It is the Mercury Pluto contact. When people have the exact hard aspect of Mercury and Pluto, that could be Mercury square Pluto, opposite Pluto, and of course I also use the semi square and the sesquiquadrate, these smaller hard aspects.
[00:13:00] Mercury Pluto is something that we find within the charts of people who are very convincing speakers, but particularly people who are very argumentative professionally. So people who are pursuing a career in law, people who are pursuing a career as a public defender or an advocate, those things are some things that we can find with people who have the Mercury Pluto heart aspect, whether or not that's actually manifesting as Mercury ruling their ascendant.
And I think the reason for this is because. The planets by themselves that we find within our birth chart, they tell their own stories, even before they specifically become enmeshed in the story of this planet ruling this house or that planet located in that other house. The planets in and of themselves, they have their specific universal meanings.
And very often the sorts of career paths that people find themselves gravitating towards very often correspond with the universal meanings of the specific aspect [00:14:00] relationships, particularly the specific tight aspect relationships that people have between planets within their chart.
Amanda: Fascinating.
Ethics to Consider
Amanda: So when you're talking to people about their career. Are there any ethical considerations that you bring into it? Are there any, like, things you have to be careful of when you're talking to people about this and their chart?
Mychal: When it comes to ethical considerations, I think that as astrologers, We all need to hold this stance that we are specifically here to describe to a person our understanding of the dynamic astrological factors that help to shape and form their lives based on our interpretive framework and Our interpretive framework can sometimes be faulty and even if it's not sometimes [00:15:00] faulty our interpretive framework Can sometimes be misguided because once again, we as astrologers are humans and we are assuming that we can say something specific to a person about their lives based on our understanding of their natal chart.
And very often we can. Nine times out of ten we can but there is that other one time out of ten where We might latch on to a particular Storyline too strongly to the point of it negating other Possibilities that exist within that person's chart now as astrologers We have to be able to latch on to a storyline very quickly because the problem with astrology an astrologer I'm not remembering his name right now, but I think it's Robert Corey or something said that the problem with astrology isn't that it has too little information, it's that it has too much information.
So, as people who practice [00:16:00] astrology in a concrete sort of way, where we're giving people concrete guidance for their lives, the very first thing that we have to do is establish a way for that… chart to stop turning because every chart that we look at is in a constant state of flux and reflux and it's like spinning plates on your fingertips and the reason why I describe it like that is because charts are this volatile thing until we beat them into the shape.
of something that we can understand and every chart reading has to be filtered through that process. When you see a chart for the first time, it's always going to be overwhelming because there's all, there's so many different paths that we can go down within any specific chart reading. So, we have to force ourselves within the first few minutes of looking at a chart to beat that chart, and I'm using that language, and I know that that's very strong language, but we have to quote unquote beat that chart into the shape of something [00:17:00] that we can hold the reins of so that we can help to navigate that person through their chart with stability and ease.
And sometimes, because of our own foibles, or because of our own filters, because that's what it boils down to, because of our own filters as astrologers, sometimes the direction that we try to restrain that chart in, it takes us down a path that isn't necessarily inclusive of all of the other possibilities of that person's life.
So I'm saying all of that to say that as far as ethical considerations are concerned, we need to know that, yes, we might be very accurate most of the times, but we also have to hold some level of latitude within ourselves that allows us to. not assume too strongly that we all really know the story of this person's life without having some form of exchange with that person.
And [00:18:00] there are two sides to this coin. But I think that that's the major thing. And also the last thing I'll say on this is that I might have a particular index or a particular file within my mind of all of the jobs that I think are associated with Venus and Neptune. Or all of the jobs that I think are associated with Venus and Mars.
Or all of the jobs that I think are associated with the Sun and Saturn. I might have these particular files within my mind that I readily pull from whenever I read a person's chart who has those things. However, We, I haven't practiced all of the astrology I'll practice for the rest of my life. So, those files that I have on my mind, even though I know that they tend to work more often than not, I still have to be open to the person who throws me for a curveball and says, hey, well, this is actually my Sun Saturn job.
I have to be like, oh wow, let me add that to my Sun Saturn file because we're always in a state of constant evolution and growth as astrologers and we should never really… hold ourselves so stuck within one specific set of [00:19:00] frameworks because the careers that people had in the 1960s are very different from the careers that people have in the year 2023.
So if we're still referencing a 1960s database within our mind regarding how certain planets interact from a professional perspective, then we'll always be behind the eighth wheel in terms of really keeping up with the evolving global culture that we find ourselves in.
Amanda: Oh, yeah. I mean, that's even true.
2010 versus 2023. Imagine if someone had looked at my chart, you know, when I was five or 10 years old, they would have never even been able to conceive of the thing that I'm doing today because none of the technology existed. You know, it's just it. It's changing quick. So I can see how you need to also it's It's more describing the energy of the type of career someone could do, right?
Then like the very specifics of, okay, you're going to be a writer or, you know, a doctor, [00:20:00] it's like. What is the energetic signature behind those types of career,
Mychal: right? Exactly. And then after you establish that for a person, you can give suggestions for how that potentially manifests. I mean, there are some charts where you look at and you're like, undoubtedly, this person works in the therapy or the medical field.
There are some charts where you look at and you say, undoubtedly this person is working within the financial market. So that does occur as well. So I don't want to borrow that from the conversation, What you said is also true in terms of describing this much larger theme or this much larger leaning that a person might have within themselves and telling them or you having the range of knowledge of the potential careers or industries that exist so that you could tell that person or share with that person some suggestions as to where they might best use those natural abilities that they brought into this lifetime.
Career Changes, the Solar Return Chart & Eclipses
Amanda: Okay, Michael, [00:21:00] career changes. Is there a way to look at a chart and pinpoint times where someone might be making a massive career shift? And are you mainly looking at transits? Or are there other things that you're looking at to identify that
Mychal: the major? predictive tool that I use is the solar return chart, and I know many astrologers, many well meaning astrologers who don't use the solar return chart because they don't, they've just never been successful at using it.
But I think a part of the issue with that is because You can't really interpret the sole return chart by itself. And I think a lot of people who've tried to use sole returns, they've tried to interpret the sole return chart as its own chart. But the sole return chart is actually a subsidiary chart to the natal chart, which means you always have to interpret the sole return chart.
Next to the natal chart, and you have to bounce back and forth between them until you get the message that you're trying to get. So [00:22:00] anyway, I've devised a specific way of doing that with soul returns that is very effective, and so I specifically use soul returns. as a means of charting out the major framework of events that will occur within a particular year of a person's life.
And then after that, I use other subsidiary, uh, predictive methods as a means of corroborating what I've. discovered in the soul return chart. So for me, the most important word, as far as my astrological practice is concerned, is corroboration. Because it's never sufficient just to say something to somebody one time.
You have to, if you look at the chart, if you look at the chart, pardon me, if you look at the chart and You see something, but you can't say that thing based on seeing that thing three other times within that person's chart. You really don't have the [00:23:00] ground to say that thing once. So there's this rule of three of astrology that says that, you know, if you can…
If you can say something three times, or if you see three indications of a topic going on within a person's life, if you have those three testimonies, then you can feel confidence that what you're going to say to that person is true. And that's something that I really believe in, but for me, I believe more in like, a rule of five.
So, and I think the reason for that is because I don't like to get things wrong. And I have… A lot of pride and I really like to be right. And I think as astrologers we like to be right. I think that's just a part of what we do. And so I really like to find as many ways as possible to corroborate something going on within a person's chart because I don't want to say something and stake my whole reputation on it and then it ends up being incorrect.
So, I start with the sole return chart because I think the sole return chart gives the framework of the year ahead. And then I'll use the transits because the transits can oftentimes [00:24:00] pinpoint specific periods or specific dates when the thing that was promised in the sole return chart is actually going to come to pass.
And there are other predictive astrology methods. such as the secondary directions or the solar arc directions that can also be used to corroborate the things that we would have seen within the transits as well as the solar return. So if I had to set up a hierarchy of predictive methodology, I would start with the solar return chart, then I would go down into the transits, and then I would use the various ways of directing the chart, whether that's the secondary direction, solar arc directions.
If I'm feeling like an overachiever, I can even look at that person's primary directions in order to see whether or not all of these predictive methods line up in such a way that points towards a specific thing going on within a person's life at a particular moment. but I think the last thing that I do also integrate is the eclipses, particularly the [00:25:00] solar eclipse.
The eclipse work that I draw on comes from an astrologer by the name of Charles Jayne, and he basically did a lot of work in terms of the interpretation of eclipses, and within his theory, eclipses represent a source of crisis within a person's life. So wherever the solar eclipse is falling within your natal chart, is representing a source of crisis that you'll experience within that next six month period, because we know that solar eclipses tend to happen roughly six months apart.
He doesn't really speak much about the lunar eclipse, but he does reference the solar eclipse. And a crisis need not necessarily be a bad thing. Having your first child could be a crisis. Graduating from university could also be a crisis, because traditionally speaking, a crisis is any event that is a sharp spike.
Within your life within the larger [00:26:00] framework of your life being lived normally. So if you have a normal day, normal day, normal day, then a sharp spike, whether that's a sharp, good spike or a sharp, bad spike, that is known as a crisis, a major event that occurs. And so I would also look at the eclipses as well.
to see where the eclipses are falling within that person's chart. What is the eclipse, the solar eclipse in hard aspect to within that person's chart. And if the solar eclipse is falling within that person's 10, 000, we definitely know that this year could be a crisis year in terms of that person's career, or particularly this six month period can be a crisis period.
In terms of that person's career, and if that solar eclipse is in a square relationship to the rule of that person's 10, 000, and that can also mean the same thing. And then I go to the solar return chart to corroborate what the eclipse said. But I'd also use the transits and the other predictive tools and techniques I have so that I can say that thing to that person, knowing that I would have tested [00:27:00] it over the span of several predictive methods.
Amanda: Where you are so, you're so amazing at communicating and teaching and translating, uh, you make it sound so easy. I just, I corroborate. I look at this and then I just check this. I just love it. If you're enjoying this, please give us a like. And if you are interested in working with Michael, if you'd want to learn from him as your teacher, if you want to get inside of there and start to understand things and learn from Michael, you have an opportunity to do that next week, because he's going to be teaching the fulfillment aspect of our health.
Wealth and fulfillment workshop series. So you can either just join for Michael's workshop next week. That's
Amanda: astrology hub. com slash Brian workshop, B R Y a N workshop, or you can join the whole series and you get three workshops for the price of two when you do that. And that's at
Amanda: astrology hub. com slash workshop.
Astrology Uses for Businesses: Now & Future
Amanda: Okay, [00:28:00] Michael, let's bring this conversation into the workplace. How can astrology help us build teams? And work better with people that we work with. So, whenever I've thought of this, just as a business owner, it feels sort of complicated. Like, you have all these charts and all these different things, like what are you actually looking for, for team building, teamwork in the workplace, and then how do you translate that into like interpersonal relationships?
Mychal: I'm thinking about your question because it's a very multi layered question. And I think the reality of an astrologer is that we aren't really an integral part of any business organization that isn't within this industry.
I don't necessarily have clients who. Say, hey, take a look at all of the [00:29:00] charts of everybody within my office and see what's going on. I have had clients who've said, I'm going to go into a business, a major business deal with this person. It's a multi million dollar contract that we're going to sign.
It's something that's going to be very difficult for me to break out of. I want you to take a look and see whether or not this is going to be a good relationship, whether or not this person is. astrologically oriented this year for this sort of business dealing or whether or not this person is going to have some major event unfold within their lives that distracts them or that draws them away from this multi million dollar contract that we're going to sign.
So I have had clients who've come and who've done that and However, I think at the moment, because of what astrology is, it's still more of a client based sort of thing, a one on one thing. So a client comes and says, I'm going to fire this [00:30:00] employee. Is this the right time to do that? Or… I'm going to potentially merge with a larger company.
It doesn't look as if that merger is going to go through. I think that is kind of more specifically the role of the astrologer, which I think has always been the role of the astrologer. We've never really been. a profession to go in and change an entire organization. And even though that is a wonderful thought to have for the future, and I would love for that to be a thing that happens where an astrologer is a part of the, of the board of directors of a major company or whatever,
I think more often than not. The CEOs of companies or the managers of companies or people in major leadership positions Tend to come to astrologers to ask them questions Regarding very acute issues or problems that their business is having and it's the astrologers
So to your question [00:31:00] about how can astrology help team building, I think it would be a wonderful thing if a human resource director had a means of legally attaining the birth chart information of the employees within an organization. And if that person had. a resident astrologer who they could consult with and say, Hey, I want to potentially put these two people in the team.
Do you think it would work? But I don't think we're there yet. I think we might be moving in that direction, but I don't think we're there just yet at the moment. I think where we are is at a place of us having a high reputation as individual astrologers, and that being a calling card for business people within the world to reach out to us and one to hire us to help them navigate.
Their business towards greater success.
Amanda: I have a, a woman that I recently met from the astrology have community who's been working in the business world for a long time, and she created an assessment kind of like the Myers Briggs and all those, [00:32:00] but really using astrology and she's bringing it in.
Oftentimes not with the astrological language really blatantly, but it's, it's interesting. You're right. We're, we're not quite there yet. There's people definitely like making inroads and it'll be interesting to see where it evolves. Cause there's definitely a lot more openness to it at this point. It seems like.
Mychal: Yeah, I mean, I feel the same way when I hear people talking about medical astrology and how medical astrology can become a part of the modern medical framework, which I practice medical astrology. I love medical astrology.
one year of premed becaus to med school. That's pro I'm going to do in the fu the human body. I love an I love medicine in genera medical school just walki the other day and I felt my people, this is where there's a very big part o is very much committed to medical [00:33:00] astrology as a field, but also to studying medicine as a standalone subject.
And I've heard other medical astrologers talk about, uh, astrologers working alongside doctors to pick the potential times of surgeries and astrologers working in the hospitals in order to do all of these things. And I think that these are wonderful thoughts to have, but after spending. A year doing premed and learning all of the things that has to be known just as not even a medical student, but as a premedical student, there is literally nowhere within the framework of what a medical student learns.
that has the space for them to consult with an astrologer. It just literally will never happen. And so, and so, I think that all of these things are wonderful. I think medical astrology is a wonderful field. It's a very valid field. More astrologers need to practice it. More astrologers need to know how to look at charts from that perspective.
AstrologyUp has one of the greatest medical astrologers in the world, in my [00:34:00] opinion, who is teaching, Judith Hill. I think she's absolutely amazing. I think she's one of the best astrologers in this country. hands down, and I don't say that lightly. And I think that more people need to have that knowledge who are practicing astrologers.
However, I think that as astrologers, we need to know that for the time being, our greatest work is really done one on one. between ourselves and people who come to us with specific problems, whether those are business problems, whether those are medical problems, whether that's a doctor coming to us because they want to bring us the charts, one of their patients, and they want our advice on that.
I think that that's really where we fit in, but we don't really have the ability or the means or the legal framework to really plug ourselves into one of these larger fields such as medicine or even business in a very You know, large corporate sort of way.
Amanda: Yeah. Fascinating. I completely agree with you.
Definitely on the medical side. There's like, there's such a system happening [00:35:00] there. It doesn't really have a lot of rumors or that type of, , personalization that astrology really, really brings to the, to the table. So interesting.
Takeaways on Career & Astrology
Amanda: Okay. What would you like? Our audience, our friends who are out there right now, what would you like them to take away from this conversation about astrology and their career?
Like if they have questions or if people in their life are coming to them with questions, what would you like them to walk away with? And what would be one piece of advice that you'd give someone considering using astrology as a tool for their career?
Mychal: One thing I would say to people is that you have to have a framework for how you even approach reading a chart in general.
You have to have a consistent framework that you consistently apply, and it has to be the same framework. Every single time and people oftentimes feel limited by that because it's like oh no, but I want to be intuitive I want to do my own thing. I want to bounce off [00:36:00] the walls and talk about this person's past life No, you know, you have to have a very clear system that you're going to apply when you're reading a chart And the reason for that is because we attain mastery based on how often we do something.
I think it was Bruce Lee or something. It wasn't Bruce Lee. It was someone who said, I'm more afraid of the person who practices one punch a thousand times than of the person who practices a thousand punches one time each. And so when we as astrologers practice a system and stick with that system and do it over and over and over and over again, we build certain powers within ourselves that allow us to become even more penetrating when we look at the chart and that allows to get to the heart of what that chart is saying in a faster, more comprehensive way.
So that's the first thing. It doesn't have to be my approach. It doesn't have to be anybody else's approach specifically, but we have to have an approach that works and not just because we think it works, [00:37:00] but it actually works is the first thing. And then the second thing I would say is Key to any good client based astrology is being able to identify fully and robustly who the person is who has this chart, who is the person who is living through the experience of this chart in this lifetime, because 90 percent of your chart reading is based on that.
We think, Oh, well, I'm going to do 10 percent is based on the money house and 10 percent is based on the family and 10 percent is based on the children and 10 percent is based on the love. But no, you have to understand who that person is because we are who we are in every sphere of our lives. Who I am within myself, within my personality and my psychology is the same person who I take to my financial sector.
It's the same person who I take when I interact with my sister. It's the same person who I take when I interact with my family and my parents. It's the same person I [00:38:00] take when I interact with my cat. Who I am is always going to be the same person, and that person is who is manifesting within any professional setting.
So, our very first thing, before we even get lost in the sauce of trying to figure out how do I practice vocational astrology, our very first initiative should be knowing how to describe a person with painstaking accuracy by reading their chart. Because if we can describe a person well through reading their chart, that already gives us some insight into that person's way of approaching their job, into that person's way of approaching their financial life, and into that person's way of approaching the concept of fulfillment in their lives in general.
Because there is no separate fulfillment that exists within the life of a person that's independent of who that person feels themselves to be at a deep spiritual level. So the very first thing we have to do is one find the system that works, not just because we read in somebody's book that it works, but [00:39:00] because it actually works in the concrete material world, it has to work.
And two, we have to force ourselves as a community to be able to describe a person in crystal clear language. Based on their astrological chart and then know the sorts of possibilities available to the person who you've just described based on our understanding of human nature in general,
Mychal's Workshop
Amanda: Michael, for students who will be joining us next week when we're covering this aspect of fulfillment that you just brought up, what are they going to learn?
How are they going to learn to look at their own chart and start to get those keys for their own path for ultimate fulfillment?
Mychal: So what I want to teach people is I want to teach people how to look at the ascendant from a traditional astrology perspective.
And. In no way, shape, or form is this the be all and the end all of what you need to know, but it [00:40:00] is a very important first step from the perspective of reading a chart from a traditional perspective. Now, like I said, I practice Uranian Astrology and Cosmobiology as well, that don't start reading a chart from the Ascendant.
However, since the majority of the students who are coming into Astrology and who are going to be participating in this workshop series, are accustomed to seeing a chart with 12 houses, you should know how to begin that reading. And the very first thing we do is we start with the Ascendant. So I'm going to teach people how to deconstruct the sign that's on the cusp of the Ascendant without getting caught up in this sign language that is so prevalent in astrology today.
So I'm going to teach people how to break apart a sign so you're not just talking about Taurus. as this concept by itself, but you're talking about Taurus as a fixed Earth sign ruled by Venus. How do I talk about those three things? The fixed, the Earth, [00:41:00] the Venus? That's my approach to teaching the signs of the zodiac.
So I'm going to teach people how to do that. But secondarily, I'm going to teach people how to interpret ascendant. Planets that are aspecting the Ascendant, the ruler of the Ascendant. We'll take a look at the ruler of the Ascendant through the 12 houses of the chart so that you can know what it means to have the ruler of your Ascendant in your first house or your second house or in any of the 12 houses because that's going to represent a major part of your life where a lot of your efforts are constellating within this lifetime.
So I'm going to give students languaging surrounding that and I'm also going to teach students how to think about the rule of the Ascendant specifically. And as a bonus, I'll also teach students how to think about Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in the Ascendant and in aspect of the Ascendant, even though in traditional astrology, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto don't rule any signs of the Zodiac, [00:42:00] that doesn't mean that they don't still have a powerful effect within the chart.
So I'm going to teach people how to interpret Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in a way that's probably a little bit more grounded than people are usually accustomed to that so that people can have the tools to start looking at charts from a more planetary perspective and so that they could also look at their charts and their client's charts through a new lens.
By way of the Ascendant. So there's a lot going on. It sounds like a singular topic because we're only talking about the Ascendant. But there's so much to unpack, and I'm looking forward to unpacking that with everyone next week.
Amanda: I love when our astrologer teachers do that because I feel that the students will walk away with something really tangible.
Like now they can start to look at their own chart. From that perspective, they can start to look at the people in their lives or, or their clients if they're seeing clients, it's real, it's tangible and you can start applying it right away.
So very excited about that, Michael,
