“The year of the snake taught us discernment – the year of the horse asks: what will you do with what you now see?” – Dr. Tamsin Lee
Transcript:
[00:00:00]
All right, everybody. I am so happy that you're here because today we are going to be covering a topic that is extraordinarily relevant. Right now we have with us Dr. Tamsin Lee, who is an East Asian medicine doctor and Taoist metaphysical expert with over 15 years of experience. She's also the founder of Elemental Archetypes, where she bridges East Asian astrology.
Face reading and seasonal
living grounded in her Korean lineage. Her work focuses on timing, embodiment, and personal agency, and we have her here to talk about the year of the fire horse. So this is the lunar new year and how we're gonna be talking about things like how the year of the fire horse and the year of the sheep, which is gonna be 2027.
What, what this big transition time means. How the fire horse and Lunar New Year.
New Year
are [00:01:00] different and similar to some of the things that we're talking about in tropical astrology. We're gonna talk about key moments in the year and what Tamsin feels is important for us all to keep in mind as we enter into this ~new lunar.~
New Lunar New Year. So Tamsin, I'm so happy you're here. Thank you for joining us and this is your Astrology Hub podcast debut, which is also really exciting.
Tamsin: Yes, thank you so much for inviting me here. I am such a big fan of this podcast and the community. I've learned so much about tropical astrology and I'm excited to share what I know with your community.
When is the Lunar New Year?
—
Amanda: Fantastic. All right, so let's, first of all, let's talk with, talk about something kind of technical. When is. is the actual Lunar New Year? ~Because I know most of us think it's tomorrow, February 17th, but help us understand this nuance.~
Tamsin: Yeah, this is a great question. There's a lot of confusion this year, particularly.
Well in Eastern astrology. We use the Loony solar calendar, so that's the moon and sun calendar, which means that the new year changes slightly every year. But this year there's a big difference. And so in terms [00:02:00] of. The solar term, which is we have 24 solar terms. In agricultural societies, that's what they use to determine how to farm and when to harvest.
And so technically we entered the year of the horse on February 4th, which is the first solar term, the beginning of spring. So energetically, we already had entered it on February 4th, however. February 17th is also considered Lunar New Year because culturally, that's when the celebrations begin because February 17th is the New Moon.
And so a lot of people in my community have been asking when do we do the rituals? When? When do we start cleaning? When do we get our haircut? All these things that we have to
do before
the Lunar New Year.
And
I keep
reminding them it's the intention. So energetically you may have felt that shift on February 4th and moving onwards.
So it really depends what is your intention behind these rituals? Because the rituals are not meant to be performative and you're aligning with the different energy. So you [00:03:00] can start it with the beginning of spring, which is the beginning of life, the beginning of a new year, or with the New Moon, which also re represents a new cycle entering in.
Amanda: I have so many
just based on
on what you
just shared, okay?
Okay?
Question number one,
what
is the solar term based on?
I.
Tamsin: So they're based on energies of the agricultural season. So we have things like, ~you know,~ the the first day of summer, first day of autumn, first day of winter. But then we also have other seasonal terms that
shifts
every two weeks.
That is based on the rhythm of nature. And this goes back to traditional Chinese culture. That's where eastern astrology comes from. So we're looking at yin and yang energy and how it shifts throughout the season. And that's why you know, there are certain things that we do in the summertime versus wintertime.
You know, wintertime is a time to consolidate our energy to get quiet. And we can see that in nature when nature starts to get cold and it starts to get. Dark. And then [00:04:00] summertime is when we have a lot more young energy, right? If there's a lot more sun, there's a, we have a lot more energy to expend. And so it's all based on agricultural traditions but you can still use it in this modern time.
And as a Chinese medicine doctor, we often use solar terms to help people shift. Throughout the season, ~you know,~ we're not meant to be waking up at the same time every year, every throughout the year. And we're not meant to be eating the same type of food. And
you can
see this in how animals live. Bears hibernate in the winter.
~You know,~ bees pollinate in the spring. They are in the rhythm and the cycle of nature. And as humans, we've lost that and we've disconnected so. Far from the natural rhythms of nature, and that's what we believe brings on a lot of diseases and illnesses. When you align with nature and the timing and the rhythm of nature, then you're more aligned with what's happening on a macrocosmic level, and you can do this also with astrology.
It's the same [00:05:00] timing, it's the same rhythm.
Amanda: Hmm. Tamsin is the, is the solar term that the, the beginning of spring, is it based on a calendar date? So is it always February 4th or is it date, is it based on an actual placement of the sun in the sky?
Tamsin: Correct. Yeah. It's based on the placement of the moon and the sun.
And so it's typically around the early February. it changes every year based on where the planets are.
So
usually it's between February 3rd, fourth, fifth. Okay. And so when we do a a, a astro readings, natal chart readings, that's really important to know when was the first day of spring that year, because it could mean that you were born in the year of the snake, or you could be born in the year of the horse just based on that.
So you can't go by. The, the new year of the solar calendar, it has to be the Loony Solar calendar and figuring out which was the first day of spring. So when I say we already entered the year of the horse on February 4th, when we [00:06:00] do natal chart readings, that's what we're using even though we're celebrating Lunar New Year.
Also on February 17th.
Amanda: ~Mm. ~Okay. So it's something about the relationship between the sun and the moon.
Tamsin: Right?
Amanda: That's
okay. Next question, but I think I'll ask another question first, but when you started to talk about the rituals that you do before~ the, the new, it was like, oh, whoa,~ this sounds fascinating.
And I really would love to hear what are ~the,~ the traditional rituals that you might do. But First, let's actually talk about the year of the fire horse, what it means. Maybe even the shift from the snake to the fire horse, and then we could go to the sheep, which is gonna be next year. But let's just talk about this, the significance of it.
Fire Horse Significance
—
Tamsin: Yeah, the significance is.
This
is, is a really special time because the what we say, the heaven pillar is the top pillar, the element. It's ruled by the fire and this is yang fire. So big fire, like the big sun, the horse itself also.
Is
represented by Yang Fire, so that means we have [00:07:00] two fire energies coming in.
That's a lot of fire. You don't even need to know what anything about metaphysics. You know, you already know big fire, double big fire is hot, it's intense. And then the year of the sheep in 2027 is yin fire. So a little fire like the candles, the starlights. And so there is this different energy with the yin and yang fire and.
This 20 26, 20 27 historically has represented,
A volatile energy. And that necessarily doesn't mean it's bad, but there is this eruption of energy, this very strong, powerful energy that's coming in. And if you look at it historically, the last time it happened was I believe, 19 66, 19 67. And around that time there was a lot of things happening politically, especially in the us.
We had the civil rights movement, we had the Vietnam War, and then you can see that transition into more of. You know, the Woodstock hippie [00:08:00] movement and then society changing. So when this happens, this yin the yang fire and yin fire happening globally, there is this big shift that happens cosmically
in the world,
in the way that we live, in the way that we see things.
And so that's what's happening. In this year, next year, and we see it. We're seeing this reckoning, we're seeing this illumination of hidden things reappearing, you know, and so it is a time to pay attention, and there is going to be this dynamic shift that's happening.
Amanda: I find it fascinating that this is all happening when astrologically
astrologically in,
in tropical astrology, we're also moving into fire and
~and~
air.
~the,~
all the outer planets are moving into fire and air from earth and water. So ~we have already,~ we've been having conversations just from a tropical astrology perspective about the influx of. ~Vol, ~more volatile energy. ~You know,~ if you think of water and earth together, it's ~kind of ~muddy, right? I mean, it's like, it can be [00:09:00] slower ~and, and,~ and more sticky.
Whereas fire and air together, it's like, boom, you know, we're gonna have.
Very rapid change,
very
rapid movement of our perception of time, those kinds of things. So I, it's really interesting that it's coinciding and I'm also fascinated by this concept you just brought in that I, I don't think I've ever heard of
I.
yang
fire and yin fire and what you associated Yang Fire.
I was thinking of like sunlight, right? And then yin fire. Starlight and just thinking of the fact that we've lost our connection to Starlight for the most part, like People don't spend as much time out under the stars, and that is perhaps the reintroduction of some more of that yin. Fire energy to actually physically for us to get outside and be under the stars and be more influenced by that starlight.
Does that make sense, what I
just
Dr Tamsin Lee – speaker view: said?
Tamsin: Yes, yes.
I mean, all of eastern astrology really comes [00:10:00] from Daoist concepts and DAOs were observers of nature. That's where these el, these metaphors of these elements come
from. You know,
so when we say it's young fire and it, it feels like the sun. It's not the actual sun, but it's that energy of that big sun.
And that varies with each person. Some,
you know,
some of us thrive in the heat and others we don't. Right. And that's based on our own internal constitution. But Ian fire too, you can already. If you just imagine what yin fire looks like, the Starlights are a little candle, it's a different energy that as opposed to, you know, the,
at the
height of summer with a big heat.
And so you can look at 2026 and 2027 in that way that we have to go through this intense, ~you,~ you mentioned speed. Speed is gonna be one of those other things that just things coming at us so quickly that we feel like we just can't catch up. And even that speed is also relative to each person and speed.[00:11:00]
Today with digital media, ~it's,~ it's so elusive to, it's like. I don't, we, I can't figure out, personally, I can't figure out like, am I getting the news quickly or has this always been like this? Or is it because I'm always online that like,
it just feels fast or is it really fast? ~You know? ~And so,
that
we have to go through this to get to Sheep ear, which is going to require us to be a.
A little bit more tender, a little bit more compassionate. There's a softness to yin fire. There's a softness to the stars, there's a softness to a candlelight. But we need to go through this big reckoning this year.
Amanda: ~Hmm. ~
~Do, ~are there some themes? ~Like would you, ~could you boil down ~the,~ the year of the fire horse into some, some big overarching themes that you're seeing?
Tamsin: Yes. I think the overall big theme is gonna be about power and how we look at power. What is power, and power is a neutral energy, but for like all energies, but for some reason it's a very seductive
[00:12:00] energy.
Some people crave it. Some people want nothing to do with it. Some people fear it, some people love it.
And underneath power, I think there are three main themes that the horse represents with the fire energy. One is the horse represents the most young element, and that's the masculine energy. But even now, today. We, these words, masculine energy, feminine energy, it's everywhere. But I think we've lost touch with what it actually means.
What does masculine energy look like? What does it feel like? How does it appear in our lives outside the gender construct? ~So, um,~ and then visibility is a big thing. If you imagine the great sun, nothing can be hidden under this great sun. So there is a lot of exposure and that exposure we have to.
Understand, how does that feel for us? What does it feel like to see everything that was hidden? What does it feel like to be seen? What does it feel like to be witnessed? What did, what does it feel like? Are you being truly seen the [00:13:00] way that you are? And then speed again. Speed. When I was talking about it, is elusive.
So connecting with yourself and seeing how are, how do you deal with speed? Are you reacting at a healthy speed or are you being reactive? 'cause that's another. A element of fire horse energy is this reactiveness of like, I need to act now. I need, it has to be urgent. I have to do this now. So those three themes under power, I think really goes into the energy of the fire horse.
Ad Break – Saturn Neptune Guide
—
Tamsin: ~And ~
Speaker: Alright, my friends, we are just days away from the conjunction that astrologers on this platform have been talking about for years. At this point I'm talking about the Saturn Neptune conjunction that is happening at zero degrees of Aries. In order to help you understand how this is impacting you.
Personally, we have put together a free guide that you can [email protected] slash [00:14:00] conjunction, and this is gonna help you understand where it's happening in your chart and what that means for you. So you can go there now, download that. We're also gonna put that link in the show notes. I hope you love it.
And now back to the episode.
Tamsin: in East Asian medicine each of these energies represent different organs as well. So in Chinese medicine, we use these metaphors for organs, basically. So the horse actually represents the heart organ, and the way that we look at the body system is that all the organs function to keep the heart safe, to keep the heart. You know, doing what it needs to do.
And what it needs to do is just stay calm. And we use metaphors in Chinese medicine, so the heart represents the emperor. And so,
The idea is that nobody disturbs the emperor, right? So outside the kingdom, there's chaos, but the emperor is not supposed to know anything about it. So even in acupuncture, we rarely needle the heart meridian.
We needle the other meridian, so we don't [00:15:00] disturb the emperor. But this year, in 2026, the emperor is being awakened. And so these themes around power, that's why it represents the horse. And what do we do with power? And what, what does it mean to have power? I hope that makes sense.
Amanda: Oh my God, it's so fascinating. I mean, as you're talking about the horse and the qualities of the horse, I feel like the is Leo actually in, ~in in ~the astrology because ~it's,~ it's the heart It is the sun. It is masculine. It is very much about visibility and even power. Like ~it's,~ it's off often associated with a regal quality like a, king, right?
And the only one that isn't quite like synonymous would be speed. I don't think you think of Leo and speed, but it's fascinating and I love that you're using that, that
the
medicine uses words that
depict
that means something to people. And
[00:16:00] the reason why I'm bringing this up is because in Western medicine, the, the words are based in the Latin language.
That most
of us have no connection or association with. So it keeps it a little bit like a mystique that you actually, it's like it's far away from us. We can't quite understand it. It, it feels foreign and, and there's only certain people who hold the knowledge or the training. In order to be able to help you.
Right. But this is so beautiful. I love what you just said about the heart, that the point is to keep it calm. If there's chaos going, it is not to be disrupted. And I just, I can see so many beautiful, ~uh, ~benefits of approaching the body with this kind of language.
Tamsin: Yeah. And that is one of the big themes for 2026 is that when we start ~ex~ feeling that energy of speed and visibility and masculine energy of taking action, we have to remember [00:17:00] to stay calm and, and stay quiet sometimes and not get be so excessive in our emotions.
And in Chinese medicine we even say, you know, excessive emotions are.
are.
Are not healthy. We live in a culture that's very obsessed with happiness. How to be happy. How do we get happy? Happy, happy, happy. But in Chinese medicine, excessive happiness is mania and and the emotion of the heart, the emotion of the horse, the emotion of the fire element is actually just joy.
And it's this ability to feel joy, but that's grounded and rooted and not so manic.
And
so that goes back to the how is the emperor supposed to feel? It's supposed to feel at peace. It's supposed to feel, feel grounded, because these are the energies that you want in a leader. You don't want. A leader that is constantly chasing happiness or chasing any sort of emotion or being reactive or being too passionate or too volatile or making decisions out of
[00:18:00] haste.
Lunar New Year Rituals
—
Amanda: What are some rituals that anybody who's interested in preparing themselves for the lunar New Year, ~what,~ what can we do?
Tamsin: ~Oh, right. ~So, the main thing about rituals, like I've been trying to
tell people
is even with Asian people, with our culture,
~you know,~
it, it's, we're, ~it, ~it can't be performative. So don't just do it because you need to do it before lunar New Year and energy. It doesn't just come in, ~you know,~ on February 17th, all of a sudden the energy is gonna shift.
It comes in slowly, right? So it's really the intention. So a few things that we do is it's really closing the chat. Closing the energy of the last year. And so a few things that we do is cut our hair. The hair in Chinese medicine we say is the manifestation of blood. And
in our
blood we hold memories. So cutting the hair is letting go of memories, releasing memories, and starting
fresh,
Cleaning your space.
Especially~ this,~ this goes back to feng shui too, especially areas in your home that
may
be a little bit dark or has those [00:19:00] cobwebs, ~you know,~ make sure you just clear everything. Simple things like doing laundry. One thing in terms of we live in a digital world is cleaning your inbox. Your emails, your all the desktop files, ~you know,~ getting rid of that and clearing all of that.
~And,~ and taking some time to really honor the year of the snake. And don't just forget about the snake. And as we, we get so excited about the lunar New Year, I always feel like we forget about the previous animal, but, ~um,~ reflect on those, ~um,~ lessons that you've learned that year and bring them into the year of the horse.
Amanda: ~Okay. So these, i, these themes around power, ~are there any other
Are big
overarching themes for the year of the fire horse?
Overarching themes for 2026
—
Tamsin: Yes.
I love how you wanna connect the year of the snake with the year of the horse,
because I, that's
what I've been trying to teach my community is that we, as we move into the year of the horse, we can't just leave the year of the snake behind and just be like, okay, cool.
Done. And that's the last chapter. This is, we have to bring those lessons into the year of the horse. And in the year of the snake, it was all about [00:20:00] discernment. It's about, ~you know,~ the snake energy is very different. ~I'm, I'm, ~I'd be curious to know how it. Relates to uh, tropical astrology, if there's any similar themes.
But
the snake
is, it's more strategic. It doesn't show everything. It's more hidden. It, it can be a little sneaky, but but it's more of an observer. And that's what we were supposed to do in the year of the snake is to really connect with our. Ability to be discerning. And I think it's interesting that with everything that's happening in media with ai, we are being tested.
How do we know what? We're reading is the truth. How do we know if this picture is real?
And
And so we're supposed to take all of that and bring it into the year of the horse. So when your discernment is strong and connected, then you're able to act quickly when you need to act quickly. And I've been naming the year of the horse, the year of sovereignty.
And I've been really thinking about what does that even mean? [00:21:00] What's the difference between sovereignty and autonomy? And sovereignty Is this supreme, independent authority? And autonomy is like how I've been envisioning is that. You have freedom within a structure, a set of ideas, a value systems. But sovereignty is this complete freedom.
You create that structure, and that's what we're being asked in the year of the horse is what do you believe in? What are your morals and ethical values? What system do you, um, live under? And so. In the year of the snake, you were meant to learn all of this. You know, a lot of karmic issues were happening in the year of the snake.
A lot of old issues being revealed and we weren't necessarily meant to do anything with it, but just really observe what, what does this all mean? And let it. Come to the surface. And now with the year of the horse with the fire, now we can actually see, okay, this is what I'm dealing with. What do I
do with
this?
And so in our own lives, what does it mean to be sovereign? What does it mean to now build an [00:22:00] entire system of our own morals and values and understand what our truth is?
Amanda: Okay. ~Well, I wanna ask the audience what they think. When, when you were talking about the snake, I, the first Zodiac sign that came to mind for me was the Scorpio.~
~Scorpio. yeah. I mean, it really, it really did. But I'd love to, I put in the chat what, what you thought of when she was describing the snake do~ in Chinese astrology. Can you see periods of time where there will be accelerated? Change, accelerated breakdown of systems, for example, accelerated
~it~
times of upheaval.
And if so, is it tracking that we're in one of those time periods right now?
Tamsin: Yes. ~Because how~
~we look at time we look at. ~It's all based on timing. So we really look at it for the time of the year, month, day, and hour. ~And so, um,~ we're working with different energies. So I know in tropical astrology there are transits.
I don't know that much about it 'cause I'm still learning. But instead of transit, what we have is annual energy. So the
year of
the horse, the energy of the fire horse. Impacts our natal chart differently based on different natal charts. But then there's also the energy of the days, the energy of the hour, the energy of the season, and then something, what we have.
That's unique [00:23:00] is we have something called the luck pillars. It's a different chart, and when you look up your natal chart, you'll see a different chart below, and it'll be, what that represents is 60 years of your life. So decades of energy that you're supposed to learn. And these are important lessons.
There's outside energy that comes into your natal chart to impact it for you to learn something. And it's an important lesson because. It'll take you 10 years, about 10 years to learn. 'cause you have 10 years to work with
energy.
So you can look at almost your entire destiny based on that. Whether what you do with that energy, it varies from person
to person.
So that's why it's not predictive, but we can have an understanding of what is this energy
that's coming in
and how do we work with it.
it.
Eastern vs. Western Astrology Cycles
—
Amanda: It's so fascinating. I'm curious, Tamsin, as you've been learning about tropical astrology and transits and things like that, have you started to notice correlations between ~the,~ the different cycles that you're tracking in Chinese astrology versus the different cycles that [00:24:00] we're tracking in tropical astrology?
Tamsin: Oh yeah. In my own personal
life,
you know? Yes. For sure I am going through a major. I don't know if you call it a transit, but it's a big shift. And in my luck pillar chart, it's also that it's, I'm in my dragon, what we call dragon seven K energy. And ~it's,~ it's chaos. ~It's, it's ~every obstacle is a, is to see how resilient you are and to grow from it.
And so it's been interesting to see the correlation of like. Oh, okay. This is what I'm going through. I'm going through, I'm going to go through some big Pluto thing too. I
Amanda: I knew it.
I was just gonna ask you.
I was like, is it Pluto? It's
be
Pluto.
Like,
Tamsin: Yeah.
Amanda: know? S
Doing is it, is it a conjunction? Is it a opposition or a square? Or do you know what Pluto's actually doing?
Tamsin: ~I feel like like it's a ~
~conjunction, I can't remember, is I should have looked at it before. ~
Amanda: ~Is it with your sun or is it with a different planet in your chart? ~What is your sun
Tamsin: ~my son. Oh. I'll show, I'll tell you my whole thing. I do know that. Okay.~ I'm a Virgo son. A moon Leo, a rising in cancer.
My Venus is in cancer. ~My mercury is in Scorpio, or I mean, sorry.~ My Mars is in Scorpio. [00:25:00] Okay. And I have a lot of Pluto, Uranus, Neptune stuff in my chart.
Amanda: I love it. This is good. And I would love any of our
Students out there if you're, if you're tracking and trying to figure out what, what she's going
through, please, right.
To put it in the comments. So,
okay.
So it's gotta be Pluto though, but that's fascinating that it's correlating with what is happening. But of course, right. I mean it, they're both based on our. Birth date, time, and location. ~Right.~ And they're both ancient systems that have been tracking the movements of ~the,~ the planets and the stars over time and how they impact life on earth.
So you would think that there's gonna be a lot of overlap.
Tamsin: Yeah, of course. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's so, it's just fascinating to see the similarities and of course there are differences, but you know, overall it's like, oh my gosh, this makes
sense.
Amanda: It's
Kind of saying the same thing. Right. Okay. So I know that. Tell us a little bit more about this 60 year cycle
and
it, and how is that relevant to what's happening right now [00:26:00] for all of us.
Luck Pillars
—
Tamsin: So the 60 year cycle, the luck pillars, that's also unique to each individual. 'cause it's based on your birth chart. So that's 60 years of your life. Your chart, your luck pillar will look very different from mine. And they are. External energy that comes into your life that impacts you. So your natal chart, you can look at, these are the internal energies that you were born with.
But luck pillars are things outside of you. So things like starting a new career or starting college or a relationship, a marriage, having
a kid,
anything outside of you that comes into your life and you're supposed to learn some sort of new skill, new lesson, and the, it's similar. It looks like the, your natal chart, there's a top row, which is the element.
So it's,
you know,
fire, wood, earth, whatever. And then the animal energy. And then we have something in, in the bottom stem,
which we
call the hidden stem. And that has what we call the 10 gods. It's 10 different types
of energy that
[00:27:00] impacts and influence these elements. So when we read it, it's it's how I explain metaphysics is if you've ever gone to an acupuncturist, the first thing they'll do is read
your pulse
and they'll read your pulse on both sides.
And what they're doing is reading 12 different positions basically. 'cause it's three different positions on each side and the depths of those three positions. And they're reading not just the. Pacing and the texture and the, the sound of each pulse. But how do these pulse interact with one another? How do these 12 positions interact with one another?
So when I'm reading a natal chart with the luck pillar, that's what I'm reading. It's energy, it's q. And so it moves when you're reading it, it's based on what sort of questions you're asking and you can see how they interact with one another. So I said, my luck pillar. I'm in the dragon year dragon luck pillar, and in 2024 we were in dragon year.
And if you remember, that. Well, the way that I explained [00:28:00] dragon year was it was a very chaotic year. That was, that was the theme for dragon year was chaos. But what do you do with that chaos? And again, some people thrive in chaos. Some people I hide with chaos, ~you know,~ and some people like chaos at work, but not in a relationships.
And some people are drawn to chaotic relationships, but they don't
want
it at work. And so this is how it interacts with my needle chart. So, in terms of the year of the horse, if you are in your horse. Luck pillar,
and you
have horse energy in your natal chart
and
you we're in the year of the horse, that horse energy is gonna be intensified because now you have three horse energies that you're working with.
Amanda: Hmm.
And
is that something people can easily look up, like if they wanna understand?
Tamsin: Yeah, you can just there's, you, you can just google free botsa ca calculator. There's tons of different calculators. They're all pretty good. What's interesting about the horse energy is that it forms an interesting interaction that we call the self [00:29:00] punishment energy.
And only a few animals have this. The
dragon has it.
The horse has it and self punishment is literally, it's what it sounds like. And so when you have a horse energy in your natal chart or in your luck pillar, you already have one, and then it's the year of the horse. So you have two. Now, when there's two or more horse energy.
In your entire chart, you form a self punishment. And that means that this year you'll have this energy of doing things that punishes yourself, whether it's over exhaustion, burning out, working too much, being too reactive chaotic passion maybe more of a toxic masculine energy, ~you know,~ anything that, that the horse he represents.
You. You do certain things that punishes yourself. So with anyone with horse energy in their chart, it's something to be aware of. Maybe you slow down a little bit, you take pauses. Maybe [00:30:00] you don't text back right away. You take some time and
take a
beat and think about it. Reflect it, because this is the energy of the horse.
It punishes itself.
Amanda: ~In,~ in tropical astrology, or I guess it'd be more in like modern as modern tropical astrology. We would call that maybe like the shadow side. Of any sort of
arc, archival expression,
whether that's a zodiac sign or a planet. ~A planet. ~And so
~there's, ~
there's also a part where you can learn how to remediate those energies.
Like you can learn how to actually.
It's
almost like what's the medicine to that? Or what would, what would the higher expression of that be and where's that choice point? So with self punishment, I'm hearing like self-sabotage, you know, where you just like. ~You keep, ~you keep falling into
these
patterns that are hurting you, and you keep doing it over and over.
So you said, ~you know,~ maybe you pause, maybe you don't say yes to every invitation [00:31:00] because you're, you realize you have the potential for over exhaustion. Maybe you don't fall madly in love with the person and
go fall into some chaotic passion. Maybe you just like put the brakes on a little bit. But what I mean, there's also ~an,~ an idea that.
It's all working for us to bring out, to help us evolve and to bring out the higher aspects of ourselves. So what would you say if somebody has two horse, what is the evolutionary impulse of this self punishment? ~What is the, ~what is the what is the invitation for that person? How can they use this energy to actually maybe move beyond some of these self punishment?
Patterns.
Tamsin: Yeah. It's to learn like what you said, to learn that other side of yourself, right?
And so
horse people tend to be very, if you have horse energy in your chart, they tend to be very they're physically strong. They're just, they, you know, a lot of athletes or people who just, they [00:32:00] may they just have a strong body.
They may not, they may get sick, but they get better real quickly. They're always on the go and they can do a lot because they have this strong energy. And it's, it reminds me of when I used to work with patients as a clinician. And, ~um,~ it would be interesting to see, ~um,~ people who are athletes when they were younger and now they're older.
And their body wants, or their mind or body, ~they,~ they still think like an athlete, but they're coming in with injuries and I would have to tell them, you can't work out for say, four weeks. And they're like, what do you mean? I have to work out? I have to, you know, I go to the gym five days a week, like, this is what I do.
I'm like, yeah, but you're now 50. You can. Run the same way. You need time to heal, your body needs to heal. And that's very much the horse energy. It doesn't know how to slow down. Mm-hmm. It doesn't know how to rest. It doesn't know how to take a day off, ~you know,~ and it's beautiful the way that they can work and just move through things with such speed and [00:33:00] have this confidence and this, ~um.~
The sense of you can always feel horse people, it's just ~they,~ they, it does remind me of Leo energy of like, ~they're,~ they're. They're very, like the sun. We're just drawn to them, ~you know?~ But they're, you can't be like that all the time. And so with this other horse energy coming in, that's what you're supposed to learn, that it's okay to take a day off.
It's okay to not respond so quickly. And that is going to be the biggest lesson for people with horse energy, is that your accomplishments. Don't define who you are. There's so much more to you than what you do in life and how quickly you do it. And and to learn that other aspect that
you
actually don't need to do anything to receive love.
You don't need to prove yourself to gain recognition. ~You know,~ you just have to be.
e.
Amanda: Okay. Horse people. Put that like on your bathroom mirror. Put that
on your
wall somewhere, 'cause yeah, I mean, there's these [00:34:00] things, there's these patterns that we have that's our natural inclination. And to have some of these times where we're going through a lesson to learn the balance of that can be really challenging.
Right. Yeah.

A lot of different perspectives and ways. To understand yourself if you love this and if you love what we're doing, one of the biggest ways that you can support this channel is by subscribing also, every time you leave a comment or when you like an episode, this helps us get the content out to more and more people.
So for all of you who have already subscribed, thank you so much, and for those of you who haven't yet, now would be a great time to do it.
We appreciate you so much. And now back to the episode. what times of the year do you have your eye on? Like, where do you see, you know, we, we [00:35:00] sometimes call 'em hotspots in the year, but like where, are there periods of time where this energy will be more volatile, less volatile, more relevant, less relevant?
Tamsin: Yeah. Every month,
every day
of the year, I think.
But, um, I think certain months to pay attention to is April, may. That's Dragon and Snake month. Because a lot of the issues from dragging year and snake year will start to come up. So unresolved issues from the past two years and they're, you're pay attention to that, of course, horse month, which is June because it adds that self punishment.
So June, I, I'm already looking in my calendar and I'm trying to take off June or add some rest days. I have horse in my chart.
I, I know this energy of wanting to do much, especially if you have a career that you love, it doesn't feel like you're doing a lot until you're burnout.
And
so, adding some rest days, adding some spa days, June is a big one.[00:36:00]
July, which is the month of the sheep, it gives us a preview of what 2027 is gonna look like.
And so
horse, like I said, is masculine energy. The sheep energy is actually the most feminine energy. And so
July
is a great time to really look at how do you define these energies within yourself? What does it look like?
What does it look like in the world that we live in? How is it changing? And then December, because December is rat month, and the rat and Horse forum, what we call a clash. Each animal has a clash animal and clashes. They're not bad. They're, it sounds intense, but it's not. All it means is that there's tension and that tension is meant to help you grow.
And so when you were talking about the shadow elements of different zodiac sign, this is what we call, this is how we view the shadow, the horse and rat actually. Are similar in a lot of ways. So the horse's weaknesses are the rat [00:37:00] strength, and the rat weaknesses are the horse strengths. And so what they're supposed to learn from each other is learn that these energies are within you.
So the rat this year, anybody with rat in your chart, you're supposed to learn how to be more like the horse. And the horse is supposed to learn how to be more like the rat. And so December is a great time and there may be obstacles and challenges, but just keep in mind that they're meant to help you
grow.
Amanda: God, I love this. ~That's in opposition. That's what we, that~
~aspect is called an opposition because it's, it's basically the same energetic line, but the signs are opposing each other, and so there are some astrologers who teach, like it's about integrating the, the elements of this, Opposing sign with,~
~With~
~this sign, and, and they can, they can have a hard time seeing each other.~
~'cause they're all the way across the room from each other, so to speak, ~
Tamsin: ~Yes, yes. ~
Amanda: ~Yes. And, and, and you said something else that, of course, I, I, I, excuse my ignorance.~ I feel like you're, what you're doing is exposing how little I know about Chinese astrology, but this question is. You said if you have horse in your chart.
So what I'm hearing is, for example, ~I'm a, ~I think I'm a water snake.
Tamsin: ~Oh, okay. ~
Amanda: ~But the, ~
~but,~ but I could have a bunch of other animals in my chart. Right. Just like we have a bunch of other signs in our chart. It you're not just your sun sign, you have a moon and a rising, and a Venus ~and a bars and blah blah.~
Is it the same in Chinese astrology where you have a whole makeup
of
different. Animals. ~Do we call 'em animals? ~
Chinese Astrology Chart Reading
—
Tamsin: Yeah, that's a great [00:38:00] question. Yeah.
So what Bata, Bata is what we call Chinese astrology. In Chinese, in Korean, we call it saju, but what it translates to, it means for pillars. So when we look at a nasal chart, there are four pillars, vertical pillars, each the.
External ones are the year and the month, and then the internal ones are the day and the hour. So year that you're born, month you're born, all you know, so forth. And then there are three horizontal rows. So the top row is heavenly stem. The middle row, which is the animals, we call that the earth stem.
And then down in the bottom we call the hidden stem. And so everything on top, it's. Obvious. ~It's, it's, you know, we, ~we tend to behave like whatever's on top because it's the most external. But the hidden ones are a little bit.
They're hidden. ~So, you know, ~it takes time for us to work with that. And each pillar represents different aspects of our personality.
And some astrologers also [00:39:00] can some energies represent different aspects of our family or different aspects of our past life. So it depends on how each reader reads it, but the year pillar represents your most external self, the most young aspect. So the first impression. When you meet somebody, you're just seeing the water snake.
That's what we see. ~You know,~ if you have a social media account and you're big on social media, ~that's the,~ that's the energy that you're presenting to the world. Then the month pillar has everything to do with your career. So what type of careers are you more drawn to? How do you behave at work? Who do you work with?
Your strength and challenges in that professional life? The day master is the most important pillar. Because now we start to get into the yin aspect and the entire chart that we read is actually based on the day master. So I know in. In society, we talk a lot about the year. Like what year were you born in?
I, I'm a snake.
~You ~
~know, I'm, ~but I can't really tell that much about you based on the year pillar. I can [00:40:00] only tell a lot about, ~you know,~
social media
presence or my first impression of who you are.
But
the day master, if you tell me you're day master, then I've got you figured out. So I tell, ~I tell~ people, be careful of who you tell your day.
Master energy, ~you know,~ because you can tell so much about that. That is your soul and that is the side of you that you don't share with everyone. ~You know,~ these are, this is the side of you that you share with. The closest people to you, so maybe your partner or maybe your family, maybe your kids good friends.
And then the our pillar is the deepest part of you, so it represents ~anything that ~
~is. ~
A few things. It can represent how you think, how your mindset, how your mind behaves. It also represents the future, so anything to do with children or work. Anything that you leave behind in this life. So it's the deepest part of you.
So sometimes the hour pillar also represents things that. We may not like about ourselves, or we don't know why we think this way, but the entire four pillars, ~you know,~ this is a reason why you can meet somebody and have an impression of them, and [00:41:00] then you get to know them and it's completely different, or they may behave differently at home versus at work, and it's because these different energies are being played
out.
Amanda: Hmm. fascinating. I love it so much. I mean, it makes me wanna have ~a,~ a reading.
'cause It's like, wow. Just ~to, ~to see the way that these different systems are organized, ~but,~ but that they're all ~kind of ~getting to the similar Are
complexity
~of,~ of us. ~You know?~
It's not just, you're not just your sun sign, you're not just your
your
year, right.
In Chinese. You're not just this or that. And there's. Yin aspects of you, and there's young aspects of you, and it all matters, and it all is ~kind of ~written, ~you know,~ in, in the stars, and the charts, right?
Tamsin: Yeah. I love, in your intro, you always say that we're, you say something like, we're born here for a purpose, or We've chosen to be here.
And that's exactly how we look at metaphysics too, in Eastern metaphysics, is that we believe that we were, we chose. [00:42:00] When we're born,
so
our chart is like. A map of what our, what we're meant to do in this life, what we're meant to do with this energy. So we ch I like to think that we were wiser back then when we're in the stars than
how we're today now.
Yes. But it's, ~it's,~ it's a reminder that, okay, I chose this. And there's something empowering about that. It's like, I chose to be born in this time. So ~if you chose,~ if you chose to be born this time. What do you do with this energy? You don't wanna waste it. You don't wanna just live through life, you know you're meant to do something.
And so instead of focusing on why am I here, why am I here? Or more focused on what do I do now? I'm already here. So what is my purpose? What am I meant to do? ~And it, ~and it really goes back to another philosophy of Eastern philosophy that has very much to do with metaphysics is Confucianism. And Confucianism has a lot to do with.
Your purpose is to be benevolent, to serve, to help others, to be of service to others. And [00:43:00] that is what creates a benevolent community, a culture, society. And so it always goes back that you are meant to help each other. You're meant to share your gifts and be of service.
Amanda: Hmm.
Tamsin: could be my Virgo side too, coming out.
Amanda: No, I mean, well, maybe, but I also think that ~I,~ I totally agree. And the soul, ~I,~ I feel like there, ~the,~ the deepest sense of fulfillment and joy, a word you used earlier comes from being of service from. The giving of the gifts, the giving of the things that are uniquely yours to give. There is a fulfillment and a joy in that inherently,
and
it seems pretty universal ~that,~ that humans feel amazing when they're doing that, and also when it's received.
~You know, when, when,~
when
there is someone there, something there to actually receive that energy. Right?
Tamsin: Yes. And also to
witness when someone is [00:44:00] able to share that, yes. To me, that is.
is.
~It's so, I don't, ~it's a different experience when I can witness somebody truly share their gifts authentically.
And it's beautiful.
Sometimes I get very overwhelmed and emotional of like, wow, I can, I really see who you are and what your purpose is.
Amanda: Mm.
I love that. Okay. If there's one message that you'd want this community to take with them into the year of the fire horse, what would it be?
be?
Final Thoughts
—
Tamsin: I think to remind how energy works all energy is trying to do in terms of eastern metaphysics is to be in this constant dynamic state of harm, harmonizing and balancing, and they'll never be completely balanced. So it's always evolving and so. ~That's ~in the year of 2026. There's, it's just gonna be a lot of noise, a lot of voices, a lot of opinions, lot of, a lot of lot of things, right?
And so to find a way to [00:45:00] get quiet and connect with your own sovereignty, to get clear on your values, your ethics, your morals based on your beliefs of humanity and not social conditioning of what you were taught, what are your values and to be. Find a way to be tender and compassionate when you are confronted with your fears ~or the, ~or the stuff that you don't like about yourself.
Because, ~uh,~ everything that we see in society right now that activate us, those are part of ourselves too. And so to learn how to be compassionate, to be tender and then to work with your community, ~um,~ sometimes the world might feel a little bit. Too intense, or it may feel overwhelming. It may feel like, what can I possibly do?
It just feels so much bigger than me and the way that ~I, I, ~I've been thinking about how do I wanna work with horse energy this year? Because there are times when I look at the news and I'm like, what can I do? It just feels like.
So many things are happening, and I'm just one person, and the way that I've been working with this energy is to get a little bit smaller, to actually connect with the rat energy, [00:46:00] the smallest animal of the Zodiac, and to start small.
So this means the.
Kind words to somebody, ~you know,~ thoughtful gestures to, ~um,~ call a friend. ~You know, ~give a compliment to a complete stranger. If you like their shoes, just let them know,
I love
your shoes, ~you know,~ you look great today. That little bit of kindness because that is going to be the thing that connects us to humanity.
When things become overwhelming in the
when
we can connect with the people in our community, when we can connect with. Face-to-face with other humans. And I think it's going to be important to remain connected
humanity and to connect
with your inner light when the outside becomes a little bit too noisy.
Amanda: Mm. You are making me so happy that we are astrology hub,
that
we get to have this conversation with you today to bring in this different perspective because you're bringing in an incredibly important. And powerful message delivered [00:47:00] in ~a,~ a different format, but very consistent with the things that we are exploring here ~in our, you know, you know, ~with some of our regulars.
Like Rick Levine for example, ~you know,~ he's always talking about kindness ~and,~ and
think
cosmically, but act locally. But ~you,~ you just, it's beautiful and I love how these, they're echoing each other and it just. It adds more. Everybody hears things differently ~and, and,~ and different systems speak to people differently.
So there, I know there's people right now that are resonating with the way that you have languaged everything and the perspective that you're bringing. So thank you so much. I'm so grateful that we've had this opportunity to meet and to share your wisdom and your approach with this community, and I hope we can do more at some point.
Tamsin: I would love to thank you so much for letting me share all of this.
Amanda: ~Yes. All right. And thank you everybody for tuning in. Oh, can we please the, the, the, the thing I said at the very beginning that like intrigued me right out the gate. ~
Tamen, thank you.
So beautiful, so much for us to work with. Really appreciate your time. And where can people find if they're interested ~in,~ in [00:48:00] getting a reading ~or, I don't.~ Do you do readings?
Tamsin: do, yeah. I have I. A VIP horse membership and it's a yearly membership that I do. You get a Botsa digital calendar with daily forecast and different types of workshops.
And members also get a discount for readings. And so I do the readings a little differently. I base it on the energy of. Each month. So when it's the right time, I offer this type of reading or I offer that type of reading. So I don't do a, a birth reading, it's really based on strategy and timing. And you can find me at Elemental Archetypes on Instagram and elemental archetypes.com.
Amanda: Amazing. All right. Thank you so much. Really appreciate your time, and thank you all for being here. Thank you for being a part of our community. Thank you as always for making astrology a part of your life. We'll catch you on the next episode. Happy lunar New Year.
